Gorgeous, wide-open views from this unique house in Wonder Valley. The best of both worlds: in the middle of nowhere, but only 15 minutes to Joshua Tree National Park and Twentynine Palms. Sleeps two comfortably, with a futon in living space for another body or two. Indoors, you'll delight in the beautiful, colorful tile work by local artist Perry Hoffman, along with wide windows that invite the desert inside. Shaded front porch.
Swamp cooler, wood-burning furnace and space heater. WiFi included.
Lovely, peaceful walks from the house. Starry nights are stunning. On moonlit nights, you can practically read outside. Bird lizards, rabbits, coyotes, cloudbursts, wind, quiet.
We love this house. We love the desert. We are happy to open it to like-minded guests who will respect the space and the landscape, who long for some peace and quiet. If that's you, you are most welcome!
Please note that while there's running hot water for shower and kitchen, you will need to bring your own drinking water. If you want a fire, please bring your own wood.
Please...it's very important that all doors are securely closed before you leave. During your stay, feel free to open screened doors, but make sure those are shut tightly and doors again closed securely when done. Wind and desert life love to enter the place and explore!
No smoking indoors. Dogs okay but not on furniture or bed. If you have a dog, please note that there's no fence around property.
I live in Meiners Oaks, CA, with my wife and children. I teach writing and literature at Ventura College.
Gabriel Arquilevich purchased this house in 2012
I have always loved the desert, and always dreamed of a little place surrounded by silence and sand. I rented this house four years ago and kept coming back until it became clear that it's time. My wife came to love the place as well, and so it's our 'baby'.
The feel of the open skies, the beauty and play of the interior of the house, the proximity to Joshua Tree--all this and more drew us here. We love that there's no fence--just desert around.
A great base to explore nearby Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, etc. Wonderful desert views, just isolated enough, amazingly starry night skies and a firepit made for a lovely, restful stay. Kitchen well-equipped too!
What an absolute gem! We had such an incredible time at Gabriel's lovely desert abode. The colorful aesthetic inside paired insanely well with the stunning nighttime starry skies. Definitely somewhere we hope to return to in the near future. Gabriel was ever-so-generous and showed such elevated hospitality. We are grateful we found this inspiring house in the desert.
We really enjoyed staying in Gabriel's house. It was very spacious and airy and we loved the isolation although only 10 minutes or so from the park entrance. The interior decor was very original and we loved that too.
What a lovely, unique and peaceful find. I love the desert and have stayed many places. Gabriel was super accommodating - even organized the lights being turned on when our arrival was delayed. Everything was even better than described. Clean, well stocked, organized, comfortable. Every nook had a new unique beauty. The bathroom and shower area is so rad! We brought everything we thought we would need and most of it was already there! They even had a little basket with extra toiletries, we didn't end up needing it but it was just so thoughtful! The property is so beautiful and peaceful. We sat outside and when the wind wasn't blowing it was a silence that was spectacular. Such a great find! Im so happy we chose this lovely home. Really impressed with the owners too- they were informative and communicative, and not overbearing in any way! Privacy, freedom & inspiration await! I hope to stay again!! :)
Had an amazing time at this cabin. We were actually looking for a campground but the park is a bit of a nightmare so Gabriel let us pitch tents outside. Cabin was set up exceptionally well. Plenty of things in the kitchen to use and everything was very clean. Backyard is endless desert and we built a cool fire pit with a mini area on the side to grill. Gabriel was very nice and accommodating to us. Only one cabin about 100 yard next to us and the neighbor stopped by to say hi. Perfect place to watch the stars and some really cool abandoned shacks in the area to look at. We shot a little promo video of the space.

Great place for photographers and filmmakers. Very secluded and very close to the park.
My stay here at Desert Wonderland with my family was perfect. The house is beautiful. Lots of little details here and there. From the kitchen entry to the bathroom shower, everything was very personable and it feel cozy. The view from every window in the house was breathtaking. Plus my pooch got to go along. I highly recommend this place to anyone that's looking for an exceptional place to stay.
