Hello, 2015 will be our second year listing with VRBO, but we not new to vacation rentals. I have been using Craigslist for 10 years and also have a Facebook page, called 'Belmont Shore Vacation Rental.' I rent out our primary residence just a few short weeks a year and have multiple references.
In 2015, I will be renting out for only a short time. Because it is so far in advance, I really need to screen people and make sure it is a good fit. I need to emphasize to you that this is my primary residence and the drawers and closets are full. There will be only a little bit of room for you to use the closets. I rent out while I am gone on vacation. When I leave for several weeks straight and have several renter families back to back, I have had some complaints that the families coming later found various things wrong due to the fact that I had been gone for a few weeks: prior tenants left food in the fridge, on the counter, smear on a kitchen knob that the maids missed, prior tenant left burnt food on grill or oven that the maid didn't notice, toilet running on, a sink drain became slow, prior tenant broke something, etc. The house is huge and complex. It has 60 windows and doors and 6 decks. There are literally a million surfaces to clean and the maids may miss a spot. Please don't expect every inch to pass the white glove test. To me, these are all very minor and I really need to discourage ANYONE, with a picky person in their party to NOT rent from me. It seems if a person is unhappy about one thing they are unhappy with 50 things. I am on vacation and the maids will be the only service provided during your stay. I do have good graces with some neighbors who I can send over in extreme circumstances to help you but I am not offering concierge service with this rental. This rental is best for families who are self-sufficient and can fix minor things, so that subsequent families will have a better experience. You are renting this for privacy and privacy is what you will get. Also, just as you expect me to be honest with you, I also expect my renters to be honest with me. If you break or lose something, I expect you to be honest and tell me (not hope I don't notice). For instance, if you lose my kayak oar at the beach, I am looking for the type of person who will be responsible and tell me. I do not overcharge for things and I replace them at cost.
The house will be available July 13-August 3, 2015. One week is $2400, but I can lower the price if you stay for 2 weeks or 3 consecutive weeks. There will also be 1 or 2 weeks in late August, perhaps Aug 24-September 4 (don't have the dates yet). I am having trouble showing this on the calendar function, but these are the only days I am renting in 2015. I don't check my email much, so call me at 562-433-0121 to get immediate service.
The house is one of the larger homes in Belmont Shore, a trendy Los Angeles County beach community located just North of the Orange County line. The home has 4 bedrooms and will sleep 8-10 comfortably. I have had a few people arrive and believe I was overcharging them because houses in their neighborhood aren't as expensive as mine and they have sticker shock. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Please check out my house on Zillow.com to verify the price. Do the math and understand how high my payments are. I am renting this out at cost. For that reason, this is the cheapest rental you will find.
The master bedroom has a king bed, 2 story ceiling height, 42' TV on the wall. The attached master bathroom is very large. There is a shower, dual sinks and mirrors, and a roman tub for two. Master bedroom furniture is ornate 1880's Italian antiques. As with most antique furniture, there are rough edges, but I love it anyway.
The second bedroom has a full size poster bed with an additional twin that can be easily relocated elsewhere in the house.
The third bedroom has an ocean view deck, a full bed, and a twin trundle bed underneath.
The fourth bedroom has a queen poster bed.
The third floor of the house has fairly extensive ocean view, as the house is located 5th in from the beach. The third floor has a mini kitchen and a queen pullout bed sofa, two decks, ocean view Jacuzzi, and older but functional Weber gas grill.
I also have several air mattresses that can be set up where needed. People usually place them in the toy room, which has a wide open area. I have 5 kids and therefore have toys and books for kids of all ages--scooters, bikes, sand toys, kayak, and a 10ft Bongo floating water trampoline that can be carried to the beach. I also have baby gear including a stroller, pack and play, car seat ,baby gate, and bike seat. Let me know if you need these things, so I will leave it out for you.
The house has a newer kitchen, done in ornate Victorian style with dark wood. I have a large built in Kitchen Aid stainless refrigerator. The icemaker in the refrigerator has a mind of it's own and usually works, but sometimes stops working a few weeks at a time, so I cannot guarantee you will have ice. I will be leaving some of my food in there but will leave plenty of space for you. Please feel free to use the condiments, flour, salt, etc. There is also a large dorm size fridge on the third floor.
There are two down-filled, leather sofas in the front room. My family guests often prefer to sleep here because they are exquisitely soft. They are made by Hancock and Moore and the purchase price was over $6000 each. I ask that the renters treat them kindly.
The house has an open concept with the front room, baby grand piano room and kitchen.
The house has 2 full bathrooms, a third bathroom with just a shower, and a fourth bathroom which is just a powder room. There is ample bathroom space for a large family to all get dressed at the same time. I have a tankless water heater for limitless hot water and altered shower heads for a deluge shower experience.
Laundry is located in the garage and you are free to use it. I have two washers and two dryers!!
Although you will rarely get to park directly in front of the house, parking is surprisingly good for a beach community. Even during peak hours, there will be a spot within a block. Additionally, there is a parking lot on the beach, 200ft from my front door which is free 6pm-8am daily. My cars will be parked in our garage, as I am flying out of town. You probably wouldn't want the park the in garage anyway because the space in the alley to turn into the garage opening is tight and you could scratch your car on the garage door jam. Our cars are already scratched, lol.
My house is located a 1 minute walk to two different beaches!! One is the open ocean and the other is Alamitos Bay, where people kayak and swim. The open ocean has a 6 mile long bike path that goes all the way to a nice view of the Queen Mary. I have 6 bikes, including a bicycle built for two!!
Kayak rental and romantic Gondola rides are located on the bay a 2 minute walk away. If you prefer, carry my kayak to the beach and use it for free.
The Belmont Shore business district is a short 3 block walk. This is one of the most fun walking areas in America. There are hundreds of shops, and restaurants.
The house is 20 minutes to Disneyland (when not rush hour). It is near the neighboring communities of Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Huntington Beach, San Pedro, Lakewood, Cerritos, and Cypress.
My house is probably different than most VRBO properties because 7 people live here. Our things fill the closets and drawers. Our photos are on the wall. The garage is the average American dusty storage place.
If anyone in your party considers themselves a person of exquisite taste and distinction, this is definitely not the house for you. You will find all sorts of things wrong with it if you are looking for a reason to be unhappy.
Probably best for families with children so that the large size, location 50 yards to beach, availability of kids toys, and lower price outweigh the deficiencies in general condition due to its age. It's a 60 year old house that is decently maintained, but there are cracks in the ceiling and patched walls here and there. But please, I need to rent to people who will not abuse my house.
Preference will be given to those willing to feed my two bunnies hopping free in the back yard. Because they are hopping free, there may be scattered bunny poop and bunny hay. Lawn service man comes every other week to clean it up. Despite this, the sideyard is useable to those who love animals. Some of my favorite renters thought the rabbits were the highlight of their stay.
Because of the urban location, summertime can bring flies to the neighborhood. Please understand that I have no control that a fly found it's way inside when you left the door open. I am originally from the Midwest and it is never more than is found there during the summer. I do provide swatters, but if this will ruin your trip, don't stay at a Southern California beach house.
Half the house could be potentially rented at a lower rate. The house has been a duplex in the past and has separate entrances. The units will be separated by closing a set on interior French doors and hanging a curtain over it. To avoid confusion, call me if you want half the house. Available dates shown on this website will apply to the full house only.
The house has a community desk top computer with printer, Fiberoptic WIFI and cable. I have Netflix streaming devices attached to both TV's.
Because of the strong ocean breeze, the vast majority of homes in my neighborhood do not have air conditioning. There are usually only a few days a year when you could use it. Some summers are hotter than others. California beach locations cool down after 6pm naturally. So if you are annoyed with the heat in the house from 1pm-6pm, then plan to go to the beach or go out sight seeing.

Rent in confidence. You are dealing with a two physician family. We take our obligations seriously which is reflected in our credit score which is 800+. We are seasoned landlords, renting and self managing 8 rental houses and apartments in the Long Beach area. You are looking at our primary residence, which we only occasionally rent out. We are easy going people. Although our house is gorgeous, you will find fine nicks/cuts/dents in the paint and finishes because we have 5 happy and active kids. The 'party' is always here. We would like to rent to similar minded people who have come to have a great time with those they love and will not choose to ruin their vacation being unhappy over some seemingly small perceived imperfection in our $1.3million dollar house. The house was built in 1948 and is not a brand new house. I say this to not scare you, but just to make sure we rent to nice and happy people. Needless to say we live busy lives and I simply do not have time for that. We attend church weekly and have loved our time in Long Beach.
