It is right beside Kinsale Yacht Club and the famous Fishy Fishy Restaurant in Ireland's gourmet capital. There is secure private parking so forget driving as you just stroll out to restaurants, bars and galleries - you are in the heart of everything - not just looking at them across the bay! Stylishly fully equipped the duplex is furnished to 5* star standard. The stunning vast airy New York loft style living room, with windows at each end, has a very high vaulted ceiling with rooftop velux windows making delightfully bright. There are flat screen TVs in the living room and in the large master bedroom, as well as DVD, and free WIFI for laptops. Ideal for 'Old Head' golfers and discerning visitors.

The apartment facilities: Shearwater is a small exclusive luxury development on a prestigious site right on the waterfront on Pier Road right beside Kinsale yacht club and between acton's hotel and fishy fishy. Shearwater is Kinsale's top of the range of accommodation, overlooking the marina and myriad of yachts and yachting lifestyle. There is an airiness, lightness and brightness feel. It is impossible to capture on camera the height of the main room ceiling with its airy velux windows but it is delightful. On the ground floor of Shearwater is a cafe wine bar so if you don't want even to cook breakfast on your holiday you can pop down to vista for your croissants and cappuccino, otherwise take them back up up and relax with your newspaper in the little Breton boys casual dining section of the kitchen. There is also a formal dining area with a beautiful solid walnut dining table seating 6/8 people for that more formal dinner. There is also free wifi internet access for your laptop

Kinsale: Kinsale is awash with fab restaurants from Fishy Fishy, to Max's wine bar, Toddie's, the Blue Haven, the Shanghai Express with Jean-Marc's great Asian food, so you will never be hungry. And all 2 to 5 minutes stroll. There are lots of art galleries, including one on the ground level of Shearwater and always just so much to do in between sips of wine! Kinsale is a friendly relaxed place, perfect for all the family, and for all interests. Everyone is very helpful and friendly and there is nothing like the Corkman's banter and wit. You will fall in love with the place as we did and end up returning year after year! It is just twenty minutes down the road from cork airport on an old country road. Kinsale is the perfect base for visiting the south west of ireland. Arts week 2013 5th - 14th july. Gourmet festival 2013 11 - 13th Oct. Come for The Gathering!

Apartment info: our 2 floor duplex penthouse is one of very few in the development to have its own steps up to its own hall door from the large communal landscaped patio deck area where you can sit out, or lie out, and take the sun. It is also one of the biggest available. There is also a small deck area right outside our hall door at the top of the steps where you can also sit and take in the sun or sit and sip! With its very high cathedral loft ceiling in the main living room the atmosphere and feel is airy spacious lightness and brightness not seen in normal apartment and difficult to capture on camera. I think you will see from our review from previous guests that everyone has loved the whole atmosphere and ambiance, the lightness and brightness of the whole place. It is really special and magical at night looking out over the lights of kinsale and the yachts bobbing up and down on the marina. Access is from the car park is by swipe card and elevator to the first deck. STRICTLY NO SMOKING IN PROPERTY. NO PETS ALLOWED IN THE COMPLEX.

Our first trip to Ireland

Mary's place was simply fab...
We really enjoyed our stay there as it truly felt like a home away from home for us. We choose it because of its location which is right on the harbor within easy walking distance to all the restaurants and shops in Kinsale. After a trip during the day, her place was nice to come back home to as we found ourselves strolling around town during the afternoon/evenings often stopping for a beer, ice cream, whatever…
Mary herself (spoke to her on the phone-- lovely woman) was extremely helpful in providing information on things to do and see in the area. She wrote detailed notes of all the best places to eat, areas of interest that tourist often miss etc. Her condo was in immaculate condition just like in the photos.
It was spacious, bright, and airy with two bathrooms and two very comfortable bedrooms on the lower level with a huge loft style living room/dining room combo and eat in kitchen on the upper level. I myself especially enjoyed relaxing by the huge bay window watching the boats idly go by during the evenings after our many day trips. We truly “loved” Mary’s place as it provided everything one would one would need for a home away from home.
Gladly, we’ll stay there again when we return to Ireland for another visit. Btw, our favorite place to eat was the Fishy Fishy Restaurant.

Our Holiday in Kinsale

My wife Kathleen and I went to Kinsale, Ireland to celebrate her 50th birthday. We stayed at the Kinsale Shearwater duplex. The duplex was everything it was described to be. First class accommodations throughout. A lot of the sites in Kinsale were within walking distance. We frequented the Tap Tavern, Armada Pub and restaurants such as Vista, Dinos, Fishy Fish and Jim Edwards. We were able to see where my wife's family came from while in Kinsale. They resided on Cork Street and some of the locals new them and were able to point out where they once lived, very special. We did rent a car and visited the village of Ballinspittle, Charles Fort, the garden of remembrance (9/11 Memorial) in RingFinnan and Old Head. I would recommend visiting Old Head at sunset, very beautiful. We rented a boat that we were able to drive ourselves. We explored Kinsale by water and had a great time along with both of us getting our first Irish sunburns. If you are interested in renting a boat you will need to go to or contact Kinsale Boat Hire which is at the Trident Hotel. The Trident Hotel is in walking distance from the Shearwater complex. Another fascinating aspect was that the sun did not set until approximately 10:15 PM each evening. The duplex is fully equipped and we were able to cook in a few nights enjoying a nice dinner and a relaxing bottle of wine. The owner of the Shearwater Duplex we stayed in is Mary O'Sullivan. She was very helpful and made the booking process very easy. Mary made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay in Kinsale special. We had a great time on our holiday in Ireland and we will be returning to Kinsale.

A keeper in Kinsale

We've stayed in a lot of holiday rentals, but never one where we felt so comfortable, so "at home" and so welcome: Thank you Mary, for making all this possible.
Kinsale is a dream, and we were ideally situated to make the most of all the little fishing town has to offfer; away from the hustle and bustle of the main street, but only a short stroll along the harbor front or through the lanes to the shops, the eateries (Fishy Fishy YUM!) and the pubs (The Bulman is a must, but a hike by foot, so yes, wheels are needed on occasion).
The apartment was perfect: we love to cook and the local produce and fish make it a must to at least a few DIY meals. The kitchen had every convenience and we loved the dining/living area for its comfort and convenience. The master bedroom is spacious and has its own bathroom. Guests (remember, we were "at home" so friends did drop by) were quit comfortable in the smaller bedroom and had their own bathroom and shower down the hall.
We;d recommend this smart and convenient rental to anyone who wants to sample the best that Ireland has to give; and special thanks to Mary for making it all so easy.

Kinsale Adventure

My wife and I landed in Dublin and made the ride to Kinsale on our first day. Driving on the left side of the road and sitting on the right side of the car offered an exciting way to start our Irish adventure. The drive was beautiful. As we entered the town of Kinsale, we knew we made a great choice to make this our home base for our daily trips. We entered the first floor garage and made easy access to Mary’s home. We were impressed from the first steps inside. Mary had the home spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. After cleaning up we hit the town to get acquainted with the neighborhood. We found several fantastic restaurants and comfortable bars. We slept well and woke up fresh and ready for more adventure. Mary made several suggestions for us and we did as many as we could squeeze into 10 days (all of Mary’s ideas were great). Coming back to Kinsale each evening helped us relax for the next day’s adventures. We will recommend Mary’s home to all our friends visiting Ireland.

First rate! Mary was an absolute gem. So helpful during our planning with loads of great advice. Her apartment is spotless and beautiful. The location is perfect and was the starting point for great strolls through the village. We will never forget our week in Kinsale. Oh, and we will be back - staying at Shearwater in Mary's place.

Very nice duplex!

My family of 3 (mom, dad, teenager) stayed in this duplex for 4 nights. Such a lovely place and we have never seen such a well stocked, immaculate kitchen in a rental property before. The furniture in the living area is very nice and gave us a great place to put up our feet after a long day of sightseeing. The beds were really comfortable as well. The location is great as a short walk to the supermarket and Kinsale's town center which has lots of unique & modern shops. Also great for day trips to various spots including Old Head & Kenmare. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone considering it as Mary was such a lovely person to deal with and went out of her way to get the keys to us during our vacation as well as refunding our damage deposit in a very timely manner. Thank you Mary!

Kinsale is known world wide as Ireland's gourmet capital. It is a stunningly pretty little town which was visited by the Spanish Armada in the 1600's and its narrow streets bear evidence to this. They are filled with interesting little shops, cafes, galleries, bars and restaurants. Life is relaxed in Kinsale with its other major attraction being the sea and marina as well as the old head golf club and the very interesting Charles Fort. There are coves and beaches within a few minutes drive and deep sea fishing is also very popular. It is a colourful cosmopolitan spot. It is just 15 miles from cork city and is the gateway to west cork for day trips along the coast to Glandore, Clonakilty, Killarney, Kenmare before returning to one of the super restaurants in Kinsale for dinner. . Shearwater is right in the heart of Kinsale itself- not looking across the harbour at it with a hefty walk up the aptly named 'Breakheart Hill' home.

Other Activities: Gourmet Restaurants all year round plus Kinsale Arts Festival in July and Gourmet Festival in October. Sailing Courses for children in Kinsale Y.C.

Golf: There are dozens of championship Golf Courses in South West Ireland. Within a few minutes there is Kinsale Golf Club as well as the world renowned Old Head of Kinsale Golf Club. You won't have to fly in and out in your helicopter to play the Old Head of Kinsale because you will be virtually on site. Drive out further to Fota Island Golf Club, there are just so many courses to play for Ireland as well know is a golfer's paradise. We are golfers ourselves so are fully aware of its attractions!

  • The bright airy and serene, bay windowed, Large Master bedroom (22 ft long) is en suite and is extremely comfortable and relaxing with its Chinese black lacquer bedside tables, and enormous super king size bed which is a 'zip and link' so can be split into two singles. The bed linen, pillows, carpeting, and everything else in this fabulous duplex is meticulous and of the highest quality. There is also a wall mounted 20' PLASMA LCD TV in the Master Bedroom for insomniacs - or just to escape from it all! There are two bathrooms - one ensuite with the master bedroom which has bath and shower. The New England style guest bedroom is cool and serene with two single beds, built in wardrobe, and there is a separate bathroom and walk in shower to service this bedroom.

Beautifully furnished, with 28' Plasma LCD flat screen TV DVD and free WIFI and 20' plasma LCD TV in the master bedroom. There is also an security system in place. There is a leisure centre and pool just beside Shearwater at Acton's Hotel. On the ground level a delightful cafe wine bar where you can enjoy breakfast in the morning, a glass or ten of wine, and tapas in the evening. THIS IS A STRICTLY NON SMOKING PROPERTY. Not suitable to children under 6. There is secure private parking in our car park with lift access. This is a large spacious sophisticated property - very relaxing - with a little deck area at the top of our steps - to sit and take in the newspaper - alternatively relax in the Biarritz swivel chair in the bay window watching the boats come and go across the bay- as well as large communal patio terrace area to lie out and take the sun.
