Valhoven is surrounded by vineyards on three sides, and woods and fields on the other. It is set on a country lane that leads to the nearest house 300 meters away, a dead end, no traffic and very quiet. Part of the house is 200 years old, the other 100 years. It has recently been completely renovated and is fully furnished. It is set in approximately 6.000m2 of lawn which is completely fenced in and has a flood-lit solar panel heated pool 14X5 meters, 2.5 meters deep at the deep end, with an electrice cover safe for children. For the further safety of children, the pool area is fenced off. There is a large terrace facing west leading to the new kitchen, a large terrace facing south 30X4m, garden furniture, and garden with many large trees with plenty of shade, overlooking the Gironde in the distance. Valhoven is about 25 minutes walk through the vineyards to the village with a baker, shop, cafe, paper/tobacco shop, hairdresser, butcher, horse riding and tennis. 40 km from beautiful Atlantic ocean beaches. In a separate house at the entrance of the property a young couple lives with a young child, who look after the property. They only come onto the property for maintenance of the garden and mowing the grass. Privacy is garanteed, the separate house cannot be seen from the shielded west terrace, nor from the main south terrace which is on the other side of the house.
Golf: There are golf courses within about 45 minutes drive from the house at Saintes, Cognac, Royan and Montendre.
Wine tasting and visiting Chateaux: In the neighbourhood of the house, there are many wine Châteaux that can be visited, and where wine tasting and buying can take place, for example in the Medoc across the Gironde (by ferry from Blaye) or nearby (Blaye region). Very nearby are various Châteaux that make the typical drink from Charente Maritime, Pineau (a bit like port).

About Beatrice Valleix
We still live abroad but will move to Valhoven when we retire.
Beatrice Valleix purchased this house in 1998
Why Beatrice Valleix chose Saint Thomas de Conac
Valhoven is fully renovated and furnished, and very comfortable. The surroudings offer the very best of the beautiful French countryside, yet not far from the village (Saint Thomas de Conac) and shops (Mirambeau) where you will find all that you need. Also not far from Bordeaux (about one hour by car). Walking and cycling straight from the house through the lovely countryside is a great pleasure.
What makes this house unique
The pool is heated by solar panels on the roof of the large covered terrace next to the pool. There is an infrared sauna for 2 in the barn.
