Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday chalet in Rough River Lake - Serenity Gardens @ Rough River

YOU PEOPLE WHO RENT OUT YOUR HOME FOR THE DERBY, MAY NEED A PLACE TO STAY, CALL US.

Our rental is located on the property next to our home. We have lived here since 1999 and the rental was built in 2013. Our guest tell us they like us being close by when needed. I remember little Timmy when he broke his fishing rod and I gave him one of mine to use. Then the time one of our guest ran out of wood for the grill. The rental house is built into the side of the hill facing the water. Every effort was made to take advantage of the beauty of the valley below, the bend in the river, the hill side across the river, the large gold fish pond and the flower and rock gardens Jean and I so much enjoy. The house is handicap accessible as well as a very large deck, a 42ft. covered picnic pavilion with lights and fans. Just off the deck is a brick bar-b-que grill. (wood provided) The house has a walk out bed room with a deck and swing. The bed room has a queen size bed, love seat,dresser,closet,t.v. and a window to view the rock where we dug into the hill side. The running water has a romantic sound, and if we get a good rain, you will see a beautiful natural water fall from your bed room. The upper level has a family room with a deck over looking the river and valley below. The family room is furnished with a queen size hide away sleeper couch, a full size couch, a tilt, swivel chair,T.v. and eating area for six. ( If needed a queen size air mattress is provided with pillows and linens) Loft over kitchen has two twin size beds for children over eight or teens. Fully furnished kitchen has everything needed for cooking a full meal. Bath room has a 36inch door for wheel chair, and a tile floor for easy mobility. Toilet, shower, vanity, hair dryer and all linens are furnished. The wash house is on the back of the rental house and it has a full size washer, dryer,a hand sink and a shower room if needed for a large family or group. Jean and I want to thank you for choosing us and our rental as your place to stay. We will do our very best to make it an experience you will want to do again. If something is broke or not working right, please let us know right away, so we can fix the problem as soon as possible. NOTE ABOUT WASHER AND DRYER. Jean and I are campers, and we have had our share of head-aches when it comes to doing the laundry. THE WASH HOUSE IS LOCKED= THE WASHER OR DRYER DON'T WORK= NO HOT WATER= NO CHANGE AND NO ONE AROUND TO HELP. I remember one time we had to pay $2.OO to wash and $2.OO to dry for each load of clothes. Jean and I are going to try and make the FREE plan work for all our guest. Since we have a rental house, two campers and tent camping also, there will be times when we have difficulties pleasing all our guest. We hope our guest will try to help us by sharing, and maybe doing only one load per day. Thanks, and enjoy your stay with us. GENE AND JEAN .

About Mr. Gene & Jean Ohlmann.

I grew up in Louisville, went to St.Denis,Valley,High School,University of Louisville for a short time after I got out of the United States Marine Corp. Bought a lot on Rough River in 1990,lived in camper and small cabin for a couple of years till I met Jean Marie. Jean loved the lake and after we married , we talked of moving to the lake. When JEAN retired a little while later we made the final decision and in 1999 we moved to the lake.

Mr. Gene & Jean Ohlmann. purchased this chalet in 1990

Why Mr. Gene & Jean Ohlmann. chose Rough River Lake

Jean and I were married on this property in 1996 on the gazebo I built over looking the lake. I bought this lot our home sits on in 1990 as a place to get away. I met Jean in 1992 at age 57 and we took a drive to the country.Jean loves the country as much as I and I have always had a dream of sharing our property with others. It has been a long time in coming, but GOD is always faithful and for 20 years I have wanted to build a cabin or small house to share with others. In about 2004 Jean and I were blessed to buy the lot next to ours and my dreams and blessings began to take shape. The lot next to our house had a burned out cabin on it and the yard was a boulder field, I mean the size of a refrigerator and up along with an old septic system and too many trees to talk about. After some two and one half years of working with the corp of Engineers my first plan took shape, Cut a road to the lake, but how, three or four people and a couple road people told me it could not be done. Well GOD had a plan and I had a couple of wonderful friends, Larry Mattingly and August Henning who I am so blessed to know. With Larry doing the brain work and August and his son doing the digging, out came the trees, up came the huge rocks and as I watched with tears in my eyes in two days I had a road to the lake. NOW THE REST OF THE STORY! In 2013 I was able to start my dream of 20 years, a guest house to rent and share with our friends. Since Jean and I were married on this property, Jean thought their may be others who may do the same, so my final thought is on SPECIAL OCCASIONS WEDDINGS,ANNIVERSARY,BIRTHDAY,FAMILY REUNION,etc. If you think our home may fit into your plans we would be honored to talk with you about rates for ground rental.

What makes this chalet unique

God Led Us To This Lake Front Property. It Was A Challenge To Turn It Into A Building Site And Home Sweet Home. The Property Is Also Close To Centerview Community Church, 2 Miles From Our home. I never dreamed this property could or would become a place of peace and serenity for Jean and I and the guest who have stayed with us. Take a look at the pictures and view the grounds, the fish pond, several rock gardens on the upper level of the property. Then take a walk down the road and see again why we are so blessed to have this property. We welcome our guest to bring their golf cart. The road down to the lake has a turn around at the bottom. There are NO STEPS to climb on this property.

If you have a boat, bring it along and do some fishing up stream or down. The boat ramp is only 300 yards from our house, and you can tie up right at the bottom of our property. If you like to worm fish at night, you have found the place. We have a fish cleaning sink with water and light and electric for knife if needed.

It will soon be time for the first of the season fishing tournament, and many of the fishermen like to fish the river from Everleigh bridge to near Hardin Springs. Our rental is near the middle of these two points. If some of the guys want to get together, call us at 1 270 257 0584, we have a house and two campers for rent. Parking for cars, trucks boats and trailers is not a problem, and the boat ramp is only 300 yards from our home. Wash house with hot shower and laundry room is part of the deal. Catch some fish and you may want to have a fish fry on our brick bar-b-que pit. CHECK US OUT= THANKS GENE

Pleasantly Surprised

  • 5 of 5

My husband and myself booked Gene and Jean's rough river rental for several nights and we were both pleasantly surprised by the cozy, homey surroundings of their rental home. After traveling by airplane across the U.S. it was nice to have a comfortable bed to lay our heads. I would recommend this rental to all wanting a comfortable place to stay for one night or several. Our trip was scheduled during the middle of winter, but it was still nice enough weather to take a stroll outside down by the river and enjoy the wooded surroundings. I'm sure it is beautiful in the summer. We thank you Gene an Jean for your hospitality during our stay.

Owner's Response: To our dear friends in Idaho, How nice it is to hear from you. Jean and I hope all is well with the both of you and all your family. Thanks for taking the time to share a few kind words about your stay at our rental home. Even though it was winter here in Kentucky when you arrived in January, your timing was perfect because a week or so later, we had several days of minus 11 and 12 below zero plus 10 inches of snow, and then a few days later here in our valley we had 21 inches 0f new snow. Well enough for the winter, it is now warming up and yes it is beautiful here in the spring and summer. We hope your son in Boston, Ky. is finding his stay a pleasant and rewarding experience. Jean and I said just yesterday, we are going to drive to Boston to look around. Rolling Forks river runs through that area and the flood waters can get pretty high sometime. Please come see us again, and may God continue to bless you and all your family. Love, Gene and Jean.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

A few friends and I decided to take a last minute trip to rough river for a night. We stayed with Gene and Jean and they were so accommodating. The vacation home they built was just right for our needs and the scenery was amazing. If you want to get directly into the river, it's not recommended at this location, but the beach access isn't too far from their home. I'd definitely stay there again.

Owner's Response: Dear Happy Campers, Jean and I are so glad you took the time to give us your view of our rental home. We well remember your stay, and I recall our conversation about the condition of the water when you were here for only one day. Once in a while the water is a little ugly for swimming, and we take a short drive to an area where the water is much deeper and the shore line is protected by more rock. We do hope you and your friends will come again and stay a little longer, and I pray the water is much better for your enjoyment. Once again Jean and I want to say thanks to you and your friends for choosing us, hope to see all of you this summer. Your Friends at SERENITY GARDENS, GOD BLESS

July 4th weekend.

This property was well maintained and very relaxing. We loved our stay and will definitely be coming back in the future. The Koi pond was really neat and the waterfall running outside of the bedroom was a nice feature. The owners were very nice and accommodating. Had a wonderful time.

Serene & Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was very serene and peaceful. The place was well put together and organized. There were only two of us, but the house has plenty of sleeping accommodations for a larger family. We enjoyed the fire pit at night; the BBQ pit for grilling; sitting on the swing and gazing into the starry sky; It's a great place to simply relax and unwind. Closest restaurants and shopping area is about 20-minute drive.

Gene and Jean were very helpful and pleasant. They made sure our stay was comfortable. We will come back in spring :-)

Owner's Response: Dear Mason, Jean and I want to say we are delighted you chose our home as a resting place for the weekend. We are sorry we had to leave in an emergency situation. Thanks so much for your view of our rental. We will be delighted to see you and your guest and your children in the spring. We are in the process of buying a pontoon boat to keep in the lake to rent to our guest. We are so blessed to have a home on the lake, soon will be 25 years, and now to have a guest house and many other beautiful gifts, our fish pond, the view of the valley from a high elevation, the easy walk to the river, the view of the three wooden crosses as you walk past the large fire pit down to the waters edge. I'LL close by asking GOD to continue to bless you till we meet again. Sincerely, your friends at the lake, Jean and Gene

Owner's Response: Dear Rob and Mindy, It was Jeans idea to use Serenity Gardens as a place for weddings and other family gatherings. Jean and I were married here on the grounds almost 20 years ago and you and Rob know my dreams of sharing our blessings with people who need a place to get together. Your reception was a beautiful occasion to be a part of for Jean and I. Now Mindy, about your family and friends, you are right, they are like family to us. I am so glad you and Rob enjoyed the stay, and you and your family are welcome to come see us when you want too. May GOD Bless you and Rob, your whole family and all who attended your reception here with us. Sincerely, Gene and Jean Ohlmann
