PRIVATE APARTMENT NEXT TO RIJKSMUSEUM

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday studio in South Amsterdam - Rijksmuseum apartment

4 person apartment 200 m from Rijksmuseum

A cosy studio between Rijksmuseum and Heineken Brewery with complete kitchen, private small shower and two beds is the perfect place to explore Amsterdam. Centrally located next to the Centre in the most popular part of town, the 'Pijp' neighborhood

The Space

This cosy room studio with complete kitchen, private small shower an extra room and two two-person beds is the perfect place to start explore Amsterdam. Centrally located between Rijksmuseum, van Gogh museum, the centre and the Heineken Brewery in the most lively, popular part of town.

Guest Access

On the ground floor there is space to park your bike inside (only space for two bikes because the rest of the residents also park their bikes inside :). The studio is on the second floor.

Interaction with Guests

At arrival I would like to offer you a coffee around the corner and show you around in the apartment and (if you like) tell you about the neighborhood and nice places to visit. I can imagine that you like to keep it short, just let me know :)

The Neighborhood

Just around the corner there are lost of small restaurants (3 really good italian places!) and pubs with special beers (more then 100!) and a wine restaurant. The 'Pijp' is a very save neighborhood (also at night) where many students used to live. Now these students have jobs, live together (and sometimes have kids) :) which makes the neighborhood young and lively with a mixture of small trendy shops, older shops and a traditional big street market. At night their are many pubs open. Only 3 minutes walking from the Museum square art-district with Rijksmuseum, van Gogh museum and Concert building.

Getting around

From the Airport you can take the train to the Central Station. When coming from the Central Station its 5 stops with the Tram number 16 or 24. Then a 50 meter walk to the house. In front of the house there are parking places and at 100 meter there is a car-park. Like everywhere in Amsterdam, parking is expensive! (€5,-/ hour).

Other Things to Note

I am living on the 4th floor and can help you whenever you need information. In the other studio's in the house live young working people. The studio has a basic bathroom with shower (it's cosy but not very big:). There are two washing machines and two dryers that you can use on the ground floor.

Strange unit

  • 2 out of 5
The unit owner was nice to leave a welcoming package with wine, cookies and other goodies. The unit is well located and well equipped and spacious. The building is another story. The entrance is dirty and messy, you go up 2 flights of a very steep staircase to come up to a very dirty unfinished door and broken walls. The door even has a hole through which you can look inside the unit. Once you make your way in it is nice, airy and with lots of light, but the toilet has no sink.... The only sink is in the kitchen, there you must do all your toiletry... I am not sure how to define this unit, since it was so strange. Not sure i will go back

Owner's Response: (The hallway walls, hole in the door and sink have all been fixed at 20-08-2014) - Dear Paula, Thank you for your review, I am happy that you liked the welcome package, that is why I left it, the bad experience with the hallway though I have to explain more about because this is not how I hoped that you would experience the house. Normally I leave the hallway clean, unfortunately I am currently for two weeks on vacation and asked someone else to watch the house, this dot not happen I understand, otherwise it would not be dirty. Not an excuse but an explanation, I am very sorry.
About the walls and the hole in the door: you are right, I have been renovating the hallway and started just before I left for vacation, the hole in the door is for example from an old not used lock that I removed. I was not aware that the hole and the unfinished walls left such a bad impression, this was not intended and will be finished when I get back next week, just like installing a small sink in the bathroom.
Then the steep staircase, this is indeed steep, it is a staircase as you will find in all old Amsterdam houses, actually it is not the steepest you will find. But I understand from your reaction that you were surprised by it and therefore I will change the online description of the house so that it is more clear.
I really hope that your overall Amsterdam experience was a good one and hope that if you get back to Amsterdam you will consider coming back and give my place a second chance. Ciao! (From my vacation in Italy)

Location location location!

Frans is a lovely host -- so friendly, kind, thoughtful and helpful. He ended up offering us his penthouse home when he became overbooked on another property. We walked out his front door into a lively and vibrant neighborhood, within walking access to the top museums and instant tram service everywhere else. (Noise from the street did NOT make its way through to the bedroom btw.) We got our exercise as well -- be prepared to walk up narrow and steep stairs. Gotta love those reeeeeally old buildings...

Owner's Response: Teri and her husband Mike and son Jaden were in Amsterdam not only to see the city but also for a soccer camp of Ajax for Jaden. They stayed at my own place for one week. It was very nice knowing my place was in good hands. I would recommend them as guests
