|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Secluded single family home on 40 heavily wooded acres...yet only 10-min from the scenic North Shore and only 20-min to downtown Duluth! The starry nights are spectacular away from the city lights and the sights & sounds of wildlife are everywhere.
Our single level 30' x 40' guest home (built in '06) has an open floor plan. The great room measures 18' x 30' and has a spacious kitchen and dining area on one side with the living room/TV viewing area on the other. The two bedrooms are located at the front of the house...one has a queen bed and the other a double with the latter room also having a loft directly overhead... which is ideal for two children... sleeping bags required. The back of the house has a fairly large bathroom which doubles as the utility room. The washer and dryer are located here, which guests are welcome to use.
A fully functional wood burning stove is centrally located in the great room. Guests are welcome to use it...my wife & I heated this home for 6-years almost exclusively with wood. Firewood is provided at no charge. As a back-up, there are individual electric wall heaters in each room.
Interaction with Guests
My wife & I are in the midst of finishing our retirement home which is located in the middle of our 40-acres, so we are only a 5-minute walk up the driveway should guests have questions or need our assistance in anyway.
Breathtaking views along the shore of Lake Superior are just 10-minutes away! Stroll along the beach or bike, roller blade, jog or walk along dedicated paved pathways. The Lakeside residential community is only 5-minutes further where you’ll find an awesome city park, 27 hole golf course, craft shops, bakery, grocery store, gas stations as well as a convenient place to pick up subs, pizzas, etc.
Closer to home, guests are welcome to hike along the walking trails that we've cleared on our private 40-acres or, crossover onto 100’s of acres of adjoining State property to explore even more! Wild raspberries are often plentiful along the trails in late July/early August and wild hazelnuts are ready for picking in August….provided you get to them before the squirrels and deer do! The north side of our property is peppered with numerous Maples so during Sept/Oct, a walk through the woods becomes exceptionally brilliant with all of the Fall colors!
Guests are also encouraged to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the campfire area. (Campfire wood is provided at no charge.) I personally never get tired of listening to the sounds of the night accompanied by a spectacular star lit sky… all from a front row seat in this country setting!
While a bike ride to Lake Superior is not out of the question...particularly since it is mostly downhill, the return trip could be a real bear! We're in the country, so personal transportation is necessary!
The cabin was great for our family of 3 teens, 2 adults, and 1 small dog. Everything was there, it was clean, and it was very comfortable. The small grass area out the door was a perfect place to send the dog "out". Even though it was spring and melty, the grass was perfect so she didn't get muddy. The loft was great in the 2nd bedroom. I would definitely stay here again when coming up to Duluth. Oh, and it was in a nice location. We did Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock, and Betty's Pies one day and Duluth attractions the next day. It was nice and central, not too far from Duluth.
Cabin is perfect for a winter retreat it has everything you need as other reviews suggest. The kitchen was stocked as far as supplies goes. Wood burning stove creates a cozy atmosphere. Short drive to both Two Harbors and downtown Duluth. We enjoyed the Small selection of DVDs and games provided. Royal was very easy to get hold of for questions and communication. The property feels secluded and truly woodsy.
Thank you for making this guesthouse such a wonderful place to stay! We'll definitely pass on the word for the best accommodations in the area and we look forward to staying here on future visits. You literally thought of everything, from the kitchen gear, toiletries, movies and games, to ensuring upon our arrival that the cabin was toasty with a plate of fresh-baked cookies on the table. Please never stop renting out this beautiful lodging!
Woodsy Lodging was very comfortable and met all our needs. The kids particularly enjoyed the loft level in their bedroom - they decided not to sleep there, but loved using it as their little play den, very cute. Everything we needed was provided in the house - kitchen was well stocked, plenty of towels and beds were very comfortable. There were lots of space outside for the kids to run around. Royal was very responsive and helpful with all our questions, including when we had an issue with the combination lock of the house, we were able to get him on the phone straight away and into the house. The welcome gift of home-made cookies was completely unexpected and a lovely touch.
We stayed for only two nights and wished it could have been a week. The cabin was comfortable and private, with everything we needed right at hand. The kitchen was well-equipped, though the knives need sharpening! (If you plan to cook much bring your own.) The bedrooms were good-sized and extremely comfortable. We plan to go back anytime we can!
We celebrated girls weekend here and had a great time! The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. There were 5 of us and we had plenty of room. Great getaway, I would highly recommend!
