“Delaplane Depot” is nestled in 30 wooded acres, in the midst of picturesque Fauquier County, Virginia, just 2 minutes from Three Fox Vineyards and the historic train station where General Stonewall Jackson loaded his troops in preparation for the Battle of Manassas in 1861. Get away to this country estate and “unplug” for a peaceful country weekend or a week-long vacation. Delaplane Depot serves as an excellent home base while visiting Washington, D.C., or a great weekend escape for residents of the DC area.
The location is perfect for visiting the historic museums, battlefields and monuments around the DC area, or for exploring the hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park and driving the world famous ‘Skyline Drive’ in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The neighboring towns of Middleburg, Upperville and The Plains all offer a variety of high-end restaurants, shops, antiques and are within minutes of vineyards such as Delaplane Cellars, Glen Manor, RdV Vineyards, Barrel Oak Winery, Three Fox Vineyards and Naked Mountain Winery & Vineyards, as well as a dozen more. Delaplane's postal code comprises almost two-thirds of the Middleburg American Viticultural Area and contains more working vineyards than any other on the east coast of the United States.
Dozens of other area attractions include the 1,900-acre Sky Meadows State Park (known for the annual Strawberry Festival), horseback riding, and tubing on the Shenandoah River at historic Harpers Ferry, WV. The location is also within 20-30 minutes of larger stores, restaurants and drug stores in Front Royal or Warrenton. The 3-bedroom, 2-bath private house sits on a 5-acre clearing surrounded by 30 acres of pristine woods filled with deer, fox, owl and other wildlife, which can be enjoyed while playing a game of pool in the window-lined great room or sitting out on the back stone patio grilling on a summer evening.
In the warmer months, you can fire up the gas grill and eat out on the patio with your friends and family. Or, in the cooler months, make a fire and settle in by the huge brick fireplace in the great room or sit out around the outdoor fire pit and make s'mores. Winter is a great time to get “snowed in” at Delaplane Depot!
Have children? They will love the big kids’ room that sleeps up to 7, with double-sized bunks, pull-out trundle and a futon, and that features their own TV / DVD player, games, books and beanbag chairs. The house is only 45 miles from the DC beltway and 40 minutes from Dulles International Airport and is equipped with Wi-Fi and satellite TV. Delaplane Depot sleeps up to 11 people comfortably.

This property is a 3rd generation family homestead that was originally purchased and cleared in 1969 by our grandfather, who was a university president in the Washington, DC area. Currently, it is owned by the two grandsons and enjoyed by their families, who collectively have 10 children of their own.
Ryan Elliott purchased this cottage in 1969
This was the family homestead since 1969 and a place we came to visit as kids each summer. We tramped through the woods, made forts, watched the deer, fox and birds and ate grandma's homemade applesauce. So many good memories we hope we can pass on to others!
Windows line the entire great room, and open up to the scenic views surrounding the property. The room features a huge brick fireplace, a pool table and wood beamed cathedral ceiling.
There was a group of 10 ladies that went for a girl's weekend and did a winery tour Sat. The house was great- beds so comfy. I will say the house is a little dated- but it was clean and Ryan the owner was attentive when we had an issue with the TV. Also since spring has sprung, lots of stink bugs but that didn't deter us from having a great time. The pool table was fun, we did a fire Sat night after our wine tour and enjoyed the nice weather. The wine tour, if you go, you need to do! We went to three wineries so close to the house- so fun and wine was great. I would rent again!
Seven men from our church traveled to Delaplane Depot for a weekend retreat and it was the perfect spot for us. It was a relatively short drive from the DC area on a Friday evening, and the accommodations were just what we needed. On our snowy weekend, we made use of the comfortable living room with fireplace (and gorgeous views through the two walls of windows), the outdoor grill and fire pit, and the large property (for an afternoon hike). I know that all the men would agree in recommending it to other groups. Thanks for helping us have a great weekend!
My family and I stayed at this house for a Birthday Celebration. We had a perfect view of the falling snow from the spacious great room (living room/kitchen/dining room combo) with windows on each side. The owners are easy to deal with and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend the Barn Door catering company in Upperville, VA for fantastic BBQ. Also, if you want a nice hike - RdV Vineyards is about a 1.1. mile hike from the house.
Our Christmas in the country was great in Delaplane. We were in the serene countryside and the place had everything we needed - woods to hike, fire pit for smokes, pool table, etc. The house was very spacious and was enjoyed by all. Middleburg and Upperville were close for some quaint great restaurants, like Red Fox Inn and Hunter's Head. It would be a destination for any family group.
My family stayed at this house in October on a perfectly beautiful weekend! It was a wonderful place that enabled us to relax and unwind - just minutes from a few wineries. We took full advantage of the beautiful and spacious yard - our kids loved running around and exploring in the woods! We also used the fire pit and toasted Smores, which made the kids day! We will definitely be back -- it was a wonderful weekend not too far from D.C., which made it easy to get to on Friday evening after work.
My 5 sisters and I stayed at this house last weekend and it was a wonderful selection. Situated on 33 acres, the peacefulness was greatly appreciated by all. We roasted s'mores on the firepit out back, played pool in the great room most of the weekend, had a fire going in the wood-burning fireplace and ate all our meals in. The bedrooms were spacious and had lovely views. We were all driving from different locations (Baltimore, Richmond, Annapolis, Crofton & Greenbelt) and it took less than 2 hours for all! The closest winery (Three Fox Vineyard) is only 7/10 of a mile away, so an incredibly easy walk. Only went twice though! :) This house is a gem.
