Sue, Roger and Miles pictured above. We are a mostly retired couple, busier now than ever. Traveling internationally and nationally is a passion. Roger is an award winning photographer, pursuing this passion as a second career after winding down his medical practice. Sue left a career in real estate and late in life began to study and experiment in horticulture . Miles is a territorial, boundary guarding 4 year old Australian Shepard.

We are empty nesters. After finding ourselves rattling around a huge house we decided to downsize and free ourselves of it's burden. This practically sized main house, guest house and large lot are perfect for our time of life. It is a compound that beautifully accommodates our family and allows us to host guests. Developing the landscape and watching it mature has been deeply rewarding.
This is a very quiet, serene environment. From the cottage the guests view the millstone water feature with the birds and squirrels stopping by. Something interesting is always going on in the garden. It could be bloom season for flowers, tomato season or fall. Guests are encouraged to harvest from the enclosed raised bed vegetable garden. We have three very mature oak trees in the southwest corner of the lot. They create an oasis of cool and the illusion of wildness. Combined, the buildings and grounds maximize the opportunity to enjoy the Northern California climate.
My wife and I stayed here for ten days in March. We appreciated the gated parking, the gardens, safe walks through beautiful neighborhoods, and a good bed. We really liked the hosts and their dog. Aromas --- fresh, clean, and fragrant.
We had a good stay. The cottage was perfectly maintained and private. The bed was very comfortable. WiFi service and cable TV kept us in touch.
We appreciated the welcome basket of snacks, and the cheese and beverages waiting for us in the refrigerator. There was even a small Christmas tree on the table for the holidays.
The neighborhood was quiet and well kept.
We are frequent visitors to Sacramento and hope to stay here in the future.
A charming studio that is clean, artfully furnished and comfortable. Liitle extra's like a vegetable garden, fresh flowers and big yard outside studio adds to relaxing ambience. The owners are kind, welcoming and very attentive to needs. The neighborhood is a bit rundown, but the studio is safe, charming, quiet and a nice place to stay in the Sacramento area.
A huge thanks to Sue for her generous hospitality and thoughtfulness! I thoroughly enjoyed my month-long stay in the cottage this summer while I attended classes at nearby Steiner College. The garden surrounding the cottage is incredibly peaceful and beautiful, offering much needed shade. The hot tub and grill were a huge plus for me after my long days at school. I also enjoyed eating the organic veggies from their garden. The neighborhood is quiet and centrally located. (A great place for a morning or evening run). Another plus is that Whole Foods is a five minute drive away, as well as access to the American River. The bed in the cottage is very comfortable and the linens are of high quality. The kitchen offered everything that I needed to cook while staying there. I highly recommend this charming cottage to anyone visiting the Sacramento area!!!
My husband and I stayed for a week and felt that we had won the lottery of all VRBO's. We wanted a rest and the sweet living space opened into a natural, zen haven of nature. With the river beaches and walks so near, we felt the power of a truly restorative location. Sue filled the refrigerator with the most delicious organic treats, and the divine bed was draped with breathable cotton blankets. As working professionals, this is now our favorite getaway. Thank you, Sue, for such a well-thought -out environment!
We are located within 1.5 hours from the mountain and the coast, near the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers. We have access to most all mountain and water sports, multiple award winning wine regions, historic sites, thriving art scene and amazing bicycling.
