Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Retiro - At Home in Madrid near Prado 1

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

Perfect alternative to expensive hotel room without giving up luxury or location! Third floor with elevator, in completely brand new building inside, but with original facade outside on popular Huertas street, extremely close to Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia Museums and the Palacio Real, in historic center of Madrid, the famous Barrio de las Letras. The apartment has two twin beds that can be joined for a king bed, plus additional sofa beds in the living room. Lots of light and smack dab in the middle of all the happening places. We have lived in Madrid for the past 12 years, glad to help you choose the best places to visit in and around Madrid.

The apartment is right next to Plaza de Santa Ana. Near Puerta del Sol and the Plaza Mayor. You can walk to La Cava Baja, a street full of restaurants and little bars. Also, the Mercado de San Miguel. Great meeting place and good tapas. Following is a review word-for-word from one of recent guests:

Review #11285894 “The best place in the best neighborhood”

After a two hour delay into Madrid, we arrived at our new home. That's what it felt like immediately. Spotless, comfortable, inviting. Everything we would need was there, and if it wasn't, Gorete would have provided it. She was there to meet us and to explain everything. She really cares about her guests, from the beginning inquiry until the final goodby. We have rented many places in our European travels and this may have been the easiest transaction and certainly one of the best places to stay. Best of all the neighborhood - the Barrio de las Letras - was a delightful area to explore. Everything was there, not just the cafes but wonderful shops, theaters, cinema, jazz clubs, flamenco...and some of the best museums in the world were a short walk away. You can walk everywhere, but if you need it, the Metro is nearby and a cab stand is a block away. For anyone lucky enough to stay here, some of our tips for best eating: VI Cool of course (right downstairs), but also Dionisos, Viet Nan (these two is you want a break from tapas), Casa Alberto, La Mucca, and the beautiful Ganz. Don't miss the shops on Leon and San Pedro. Just explore. There is so much to see. Then come home to your beautiful quiet apartment with a wonderful bed and a place to read and relax. We're already thinking about another trip to this vibrant city and of course we would stay at one of Gorete's "At Home In Madrid" apartments.

Gorete Fieira Novack purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Gorete Fieira Novack chose Retiro

Location, location, location! This is smack-dab in the middle of the historic Barrio de las Letras (Literature Neighborhood) very romantic, safe and with countless places to eat, people-watch, on a pedestrian street (no traffic).

What makes this apartment unique

The building was completely gutted a few years ago and they saved the facade and the 100 year old staircase, but everything else is brand-new modern construction. We have furnished and equipped the apartment with everything we would like to find in a rental, we use VRBO ourselves when we travel so we understand that small details are paramount. Besides, we have lived in Madrid for the past 14 years, so we are happy to steer you to the best suggestions, whether they are restaurants, site seeing, shopping, trendy restaurants, family places or unique Madrid experiences depending on your date of travel. Latest requests have been: Soccer games, bullfighting, day trips to Toledo, Segovia, and Avila.

Great apartment in Central Madrid

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this apartment for a week in February and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. It was very comfortable and secure and better value than staying in a hotel. The location was perfect - close to mainline train and Metro stations and within walking distance to a number of great bars and restaurants, many of which were recommended by Gorete. We enjoyed them all! Gorete was very welcoming and made sure that we were happy throughout our stay. We would definitely recommend the apartment and Madrid to others and hope to return very soon.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

What makes the choice between staying at a hotel and renting an apartment a hard one is knowing hotels are staffed with clerks, concierge and other staff who are there to assist travelers. As far as that goes, I found Jesus in Madrid. In fact Jesus is the name of the doorman. Between Jesus and Gorete any need my wife and I had were met. Jesus walked with me to his preferred barber when I mentioned to him I needed a haircut and Gorete helped us in our planning, told us her favorite restaurants and left coffee and some food in the kitchen so we did not have to shop as soon as we arrived. As other reviews say you can walk to about any tourist site or anything else you need nearby. If walking is not your thing there is a taxi stand right around the corner and public transportation is nearby. The apartment is nicely furnished, has lots of natural light and is quite since it is on an upper floor. This was one of our best vacations thanks to Gorete.

Wonderful Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience with the apartment and Gorete, the owner. It was spacious, modern and clean and was situated on a great street. We were walking distance to almost all of the sites and very close to Atocha train station and metro stops. There were great bars and restaurants in the area, and Gorete had great recommendations. We would highly recommend this apartment.

As good as it gets

  • 5 of 5

Travel before Christmas can challenge your patience. It was our first time in Spain. For starters, our flight from Canada left late, we missed our connecting flight, and arrived late in Madrid. We called from public phone at the airport. Gorete answered and was reassuring, and indeed her person waited for us in the apartment. Worse, a suite case did not arrive and we were told to wait in the apartment 10 to 3 for delivery. As few speak English and we don't speak Spanish, Gorete took care of that too. She had the airline deliver it to her and she brought it to the apartment. Instead of loosing one day of the 4 planned in Madrid we enjoyed them all, knowing all was taken care.

On our third day we somehow left our keys in the locked apartment, maybe the excitement to take in all we can, maybe jet lag, we were left out on street upon our return that night. Using Whatsup, as apartment wifi reached street level, we connected with Gorete and within 5 mi we were back in doors.

The location is central. The apartment was best organized, clean, supplied with all kitchen basics (unlike apartment we later rented from a rental company in Seville, where not a grain of sugar, salt or tea was to be found. Gorete was all generosily supplied. )

Last comment, her translation services, warm response to our challenges was fantastic. As my wife said, any other apartment will be measured against this high bar. Madrid was great, the accommodation had a great part in that. G.

Confortable y Céntrico!!!

  • 5 of 5
