Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to express our family's delight with the two weeks we spent at your rental villa.

It provided us with everything we were hoping to find during the holidays. Your on-the-spot descriptions of the house, the village and the nearby communities helped to make our choice an appropriate one. And ultimately a happy one. Thank you.

The care you have taken in setting all the details of the house made our stay at a very personal level very comfortable. We enjoyed the Saturday we spent in Aix-En-Provence. Thank you Hilary. Also, thank you for the wine you left for us to enjoy. We loved it so much that we found the vineyard but unfortunately the household appeared to be away on holidays.

Please, pass on our gratitude to Theo for the care he gave us.

We look forward to the opportunity to stay in Bargemon again.

Exquisite Villa!

  • 5 out of 5
A stunning, well equipped villa tucked away on the outskirts of pretty medieval Bargemon, the grounds are naturally beautiful offering delightful spaces to dine al fresco with a lovely pool for the hotter days. Everything in the villa is finished to the highest standard, easy to use/operate and the beds particularly comfortable. It has a superb kitchen. Theo was very helpful, especially when it came to the secrets of dining at the Hostellerie de Gorges Pennefort, no clues except that it was an experience not to be missed! We can also recommend La France at Fayence for lunch/dinner. The coast is an hour’s drive away-where we took in the beautiful beach at St Maxine and hopped by boat across to St Tropez to ogle the yachties! For a bit of history, visit the Chapelle of Sainte Rosaline next to vineyard of the same name at Les Arcs. Ste Rosaline, an ancester of the de Villeneuve family who live in Bargemon, lies there in tact next to a stunning mocaic by Chagall. It is quite a story! On your rainy day, there’s a wonderful DVD entitled ‘The Grocer’s Son’ which gives a touching account of life in Provence. Another recommended day out is a 1-2 hour drive through the Gorges du Pennefort which offers lots of stops along the way to take in the stunning panoramic views. Head for Moustiers for lunch at La Treille Muscate but you’ll need to book! All in all we have a most memorable holiday. Thank you Stephen and Hilary!

Gorgeous!

  • 5 out of 5
What a beautiful home! My family and I had the pleasure of staying in Stephen's Bargemon house this spring and there are not enough good things I have to say! First, the house itself is so tastefully decorated, the beds comfortable, the towels fluffy. The grounds are rustic and green, and the pool was clean and safe with the alarm. The area is unpretentious and wild. Quite the driving experience, it was very rainy when we arrived and at times it seemes as if the road would slide right off the side of the hills, but thankfully it didn't! The market at Le Muy was fantastic and I urge everyone staying in Bargemon to check it out. At the market we bought boar and fig sausage, cheese, pissaladiere, wine, fudge, peaches, forrest mushrooms, oh the list goes on! To die for! The surrounding country side is just breathtaking and it's close the the sea for day trips. My one and only suggestion is to have some pantry items because there were none, things that travellers wouldn't have on hand, such as tea and sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper. That would be helpful. Otherwise the kitchen was stocked full of every utensil and dish you could ever need, and such lovely crock pots! The kitchen was my dream kitchen! So nice to cook in! There is a grocery shop in Bargemon, but be sure to get there before it closes for the afternoon! Stephen's communication was great through out, he even accommodated our schedule, as we couldn't check in on the preferred day. Five stars all the way, it reminded me of a secret hideaway Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald would have had in the 1920s. We would love to visit again one day!

Second time around

  • 5 out of 5
We had the pleasure of staying at the villa last summer. We had a fantastic experience then, especially as everything was new to us, the villa, Bargemon and the surrounding area.

Second time around and the holiday was just as good. The villa is very well maintained and the accommodation is perfectly appointed with each room having its own ensuite facilities. The garden is so peaceful and at the same time a great space for our lively dog to get plenty of exercise. The pool area is an absolute private oasis, lavender fringed with well maintained tasteful poolside furniture. A real bonus with this pool is that it is long enough to do laps in if you are a keen swimmer.

There is a really good gas fired BBQ which we produced some lovely meals on.

Whilst we were staying at the villa we had a couple of minor maintenance issues that were sorted out almost instantly and without fuss by Theo who is the English speaking property manager. The villa was immaculately clean when we arrived and the mid week clean kept it that way.

Bargemon the local village is a delight, it has a really well stocked general grocery store in addition to a butchers and a couple of boulangeries. With around eight restaurants there is plenty of culinary choice. Pescalune is an exceptional dining experience and Les Tables Rondes comes in at a close second.

I would not hesitate in recommending this villa, it really is a jewel of a place.

Bargemon Villa

  • 5 out of 5
The house was lovely!
We felt like we were staying in someone's home rather than a"rental" property!
The place was immaculate!
The village itself was charming and everyone was friendly. We actually found everything we needed in the village. And, we enjoyed the restaurants!

The property manager was extremely helpful and attentive .

They had a wonderful library of local travel books and maps, very useful!

Our only issue was the extremely soft beds/mattresses . The bed linens were lovely.

It was a wonderful holiday for our family!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. It is a pleasure to know that people have enjoyed their stay. We have made sure that the villa is a home so that people can relax from the beginning of their holiday.
Bargemon is certainly a special place for holidays and the restaurants are delightful.
We are very fortunate with Theo and Corine who look after the villa impeccably.
Our bed linen is of finest Egyptian cotton with warm duvets for the cooler months and big soft pillows. Whilst mattresses are a subjective area, we are very pleased to say that our guests have usually found them extremely comfortable. It is certainly a delight to lie in such comfort as the Provençal sun streams through the windows.

The Best Villa in The South of France

  • 5 out of 5
I'm a reluctant reviewer, not because this wasn't an amazing villa, it is simply the best that we have ever rented in France. It's just that we don't want other people to discover it and not be able to rent it again ourselves.

The photos on the website do the villa justice in that it is a beautifully restored and has been very tastefully decorated. The living space and bedrooms with their en-suite facilities are as good as any you will find in a boutique hotel. The kitchen a delight to cook in, the garden a tranquil oasis and the generous size swimming pool a joy to float around in the warming rays of the sun.

What the photos don't show you is how beautiful and peaceful the setting is, or how glorious the drive is up to the village of Bargemon or indeed what a fantastic place it is to drink a refreshing glass of rose and watch the world go by. It is also home to one of the best restaurants in the Var.

Owner's Response: It is a delight to hear of people enjoying the villa.
There are many excellent restaurants in and around Bargemon. Les Tables Rondes and La Pescalune in the village itself and others such as Les Deux Rocs in Seillans and Restaurant Les Gorges de Pennafort between Callas and Le Muy. Also, try the Hotel de France in Fayence.
These, together with the excellent markets at Bargemon, Callas and Le Muy, mean we are spoilt for the choice of fantastic food. The Route de Vin between Callas and Le Muy include some excellent organic vineyards - a paradise indeed!

Fabulous

  • 5 out of 5
I would thoroughly recommend to anyone to book this Villa. It was our first time to Provence and it was everything we imagined and more. Bargemon is an absolutley delightful little village with great facilities and the Villa was fabulous and is exactly as described in the advertisement. The Owners have provided everything to make this a wonderful holiday whilst retaining the charm of the place. Great thought has been applied to its renovation and its completely elegant and charming. The garden is delightful and the pool area perfect and the house has everything that a family like ours with two teenage daughters needed to ensure we had a great stay.

Bargemon is the local friendly village, with its lovely squares, cafes, restaurants and fountains. There is a weekly (Thursdays) market day and festivals take place regularly – it is typically French as you have dreamt!

Village facilities include swimming pool and play area, museum, tourist office, supermarket, boulangerie, butcher, newsagent, post office, bank, several restaurants, art galleries, antique shops, pottery, wine merchant.

The villa itself is 2.5 km. from the village of Bargemon (25 minute walking by footpath), in a wooded area with views over the hills to the south. It is peaceful and secluded but not isolated and gives easy access to walks through the oak forests so typical of this area.
