La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is a fully restored winemaker's cottage nestled in the peaceful winemaking village of Villers-la-Faye, only seven minutes from the stunning medieval town of Beaune.
The cottage is completely independent, private, and newly renovated. We do not live on-site. It is extremely quiet, as it tucked back in a lane (with ample free parking all around). The village boulangerie is just steps away so you will be assured of a fresh croissants every morning!
La Maison de la Vieille Vigne consists of one bedroom (with a queen-sized bed), one bathroom, and a main room with a fireplace at one end and a fully equipped kitchen at the other. There is also a private attached flagstone courtyard off the bedroom for outdoor meals, relaxing, or BBQ's. The cottage dates from around 1650 and boasts lovely exposed rock walls and oak beams. It is decorated with a tasteful mix of antiques and new furniture. There is a brand-new and very comfortable double pull-out couch in this Main Room, as well as a comfy chair for reading by the fireplace.
The cottage is completely equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay in Burgundy, including high quality bed linens (beds are made up for your arrival), binders full of local information and tips, towels, and a bottle of local wine to welcome you.
While the village is calm and set in the spectacular undulating vineyards of the Hautes-Cotes, it is very central. Beaune - the beautiful and dynamic medieval town that is the centre of winemaking in the area - is only a seven minute drive away. The fascinating city of Dijon is thirty minutes North. All of the prestigious wine-making villages of the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune such as Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, and Gevrey-Chambertin, to name just a few are, are literally on your doorstep.
We will of course negotiate lower prices for long-term stays. Please don't hesitate to contact us for additional information and photos. A Bientot!
We are a French - Canadian couple who met and fell in love in Burgundy. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada and came to Beaune on a Rotary exchange when I was 18. During that year I met and fell madly in love with Franck, a native Burgundian from the village of Villers-la-Faye where La Maison de la Vieille Vigne is located.
That was 18 years ago and now we have three lovely Franco-Canadian daughters, four vacation rentals in and around Beaune, and a very trans-atlantic lifestyle! Our rentals and free activity-planning service allow you to live in Burgundy like a local. We love helping our guests discover authentic France. I wrote a bestselling memoir entitled 'My Grape Escape' about how we purchased and renovated our first vacation rental in Burgundy.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005
We had our eye on this cottage for several years, thinking it would make the perfect vacation rental in Burgundy. Not only was it an ancient restored winemaker's cottage, but it was tucked away in a little lane in the oldest part of the village, yet just steps from endless walks through the local vineyards.
Franck finally managed to negotiate a private purchase through his 'village' connections and in 2005 we completely renovated the cottage, then furnished it with a brand new kitchen, a divinely comfortable queen-sized bed and double pull-out sofa bed, and some lovely antiques. La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has been 'home' in Burgundy for many thrilled guests, from Australian newlyweds on their honeymoon to a Canadian poet taking a three month writing retreat. We have many repeat guests that come back year after year!
Villers-la-Faye, where the cottage is located and where Franck is from, is off the tourist track yet only 7 minutes from Beaune. Some of the world's most prestigious winemaking villages - Pommard, Meursault, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Vosne-Romanee to name just a few are literally on your doorstep.
In Villers-la-Faye real French people live, work, and make wine (there are several winemakers in the village, just steps from the cottage). La Maison de la Vieille Vigne has everything you need to sit back, relax and experience what authentic life in France is all about, from one week to several months.
We provide you with local information and insider insights you couldn't find anywhere else to help you make the most of your Burgundian escape.
After a hectic and wonderful week in Paris we came down to Villers-la-Faye to stay at La Maison de la Vielle Vigne. The cottage is exactly as described and tastefully decorated. We found the cottage to be very comfortable and with an excellent kitchen. The situation of the cottage is peaceful and we found it to be quiet and relaxing. We had lots of meals in the cottage making the most of the very tasty French produce which we bought from the surrounding shops and in Beaune which is a short drive away and of course the terrific wines. We used the excellent supermarket Grand Frais, recommended by Laura and Franck, for meat, vegetables and cheeses.
There is a beautiful walk from the cottage up the hill by the side of the church and alongside the vineyards, a perfect early morning or evening stroll. Also recommended is the drive from Beaune to La Rochepot via Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, this shows off the famous vineyards and the pretty villages along the route. We also had a great evening meal at the L’Auberge du Coteau a country restaurant in a small village about a twenty minute drive from the cottage. The week here was a perfect wind down from Paris and the best possible introduction to Burgundy.

We just spent 11 wonderful days in this winemaker's cottage in Burgundy. This wonderful restored cottage from 1650 was perfect in every way.
One of the most beautiful areas we have visited and we hope to be able to return in the near future!
We spent two weeks in this cottage to explore the area. After having visited a large number of cottages in France over several years we have never before been supplied with so much good information as to what to do and see. Franck called around twice to make sure everything was OK which was very much appreciated. The cottage was nicely decorated and relaxing and we enjoyed our stay.
The cottage is bright, airy, spacious, impeccably clean and conveniently located in a tiny village only minutes away from Beaune. The booking process was easy. Franck and Laura are extremely helpful and friendly. The location is simple to get to and a perfect base to explore Burgundy. I wholeheartedly recommend this property.
The cottage was very nice. Clean and well appointed. We had a nice fire in the fireplace each night. Bed is VERY comfy. We had a few things we had questions on and sent Franck an email, to which he responded very quickly! Unfortunately, the boulangerie has closed in Viller-la-Faye, however, there is a lovely one just a few km away, with a wonderful baker named Jean-Paul, at Franck's suggestion we asked him for a Tart Mirabelle.....INCREDIBLE! " Ah my Canadian friend?" Not only did Jean-Paul order in the lovely mirabelles, we made a great new friend in Comblanchien. There is no way to have anything but a lovely time in Bourgogne, and this cottage made it all the better. Merci a vous Mr. Germain!
The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was charming on the outside and comfortably modern on the inside. Plan on a small learning curve to use the washer and dryer--easy once we understood the system. We had everything we needed to prepare simple breakfasts and dinners, choosing to explore the restaurants at lunchtime. The internet and TV system worked well. It was a lovely place just to hang out if a day off from touring is appealing. The village is conveniently located near Beaune and the drives to and from highlights in the area are beautiful. There is much to see and do, especially if one is into tasting wine. HIghlights included the Hotel Dieu in Beaune, market days at the surrounding villages and towns, and watching the grape harvest.
