Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday mobile home in Sandpoint - Garden Caravan, Sandpoint

1 bed, 1 bath, sleeps 2. Garden Caravan - Tiny House on Wheels

Enjoy your stay in this unique handmade gypsy-style caravan in a beautiful garden setting. You have all the comforts and amenities of a well appointed studio apartment, yet the feeling of being on a new exciting adventure. This Tiny House on wheels is parked in a lush corner of our 5 acres, with a view of the pond and your own private grassy sitting area. Watch the ducks and herons splash in the water while you enjoy the morning sun, then drive or bike 2 short miles into Sandpoint for great shopping, restaurants, music, entertainment, or a day at the lake.

The 10' X 20' Garden Caravan has been a labor of love. Built with many recycled materials, and adorned with touches of arts and crafts, it is also built sturdy and strong (with a hint of the maritime theme) by an experienced boat builder. The queen sized bed sits in little nook, but the rest of the open floor plan is full of windows and skylights to make it feel big and bright.

Complete with RV type appliances (gas stove, small refrigerator, water saver marine toilet, shower, and electric heat/hot water) it is very comfortable, just on a small scale. Try out the concept of 'compact living' in this cozy space with everything you need, and an abundance of nature just outside your door to give you the feel of space and freedom.

Your hosts live in a house on the same property and may be seen tending to the nearby berry bushes, flower gardens, and vegetable patch. We are available to help in any way you may need, and provide information on the area and all the great recreational opportunities in our town, mountains, or lake. If privacy is what you want, the Garden Caravan is tucked away in it's own peaceful world, but if you need anything, your hosts are right there to assist. If you are here during the growing season you may be offered a bowl of fresh berries for your breakfast, or some bounty from the garden for your evening meal. Laundry is available on request, and limited (slow) wifi internet is provided.

We have plenty of secure off street parking in front of our house, but you will need to walk 150 feet or so across the grass to get to the Garden Caravan. We live an a rural, friendly neighborhood that is very safe and accommodating. And while the gypsy-type wagon has all the comforts of home, it is a self contained RV and so water use is limited (10 gallon hot water tank for a nice hot short shower).

Treat yourself to something different this vacation!

About Amy Hanson

My husband Glenn and I have lived in the small resort town of Sandpoint in North Idaho for the last 23 years. We own a business where we manufacture solar panel mounting systems for the renewable energy industry. Our work keeps us pretty busy and close to home, but when we can get away, we love to travel. In the summer we host exchange students, or members of World Wide Opportunities On Organic Farms (WWOOF). We love the concept of people sharing who they are and what they have with others, and incorporating more of the 'personal touch' in an increasingly impersonal world.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We really enjoyed our stay in the tiny house. Though small, it was thoughtfully and efficiently laid out and had everything we needed. The bed and sleeping area were very comfortable, even for my husband who is 6 foot 3". It was well ventilated and the cool nights made for great sleep. We were able to cook simple meals easily. The location is great - both peaceful and quiet yet close to downtown Sandpoint. The pond is just steps away and a perfect place for quiet reflection and wildlife viewing. We even saw moose on the property during our stay! Our hosts were friendly and made us feel welcome. We would definitely stay there again."

This wonderful caravan is a great place for a quiet retreat, reading, relaxing, or using it as a home base for sightseeing, hiking, or enjoying the regional environment. The owner provided a safe and comfortable setting and the caravan has everything you need! Would definitely recommend this location and hope to come back in the future!

What a great surprise!

A fantastic and creative space. Very comfortable, extremely clean. The owners are very nice folks, attentive but not at all obtrusive. If you have looked this far, my guess is you will be very pleased....

The Garden Caravan is our first choice and recommendation in Sandpoint!

  • 5 out of 5
The Garden Caravan was the perfect place to stay in Sandpoint! We loved the remoteness of its location. It was hidden in luscious greens with a pretty pond in the back. Additionally, it was quick and simple to get to town. It sets 2 miles from town. Which was a great bike ride. Moreover, the price was very fair and fit our budget.
The service from Amy was very pleasant. She was helpful with providing directions ahead of time. Then she was very welcoming when we arrived. She gave us a tour of the place and showed up specifics of the Caravan to ensure our stay was comfortable. Amy was also helpful with giving insight on sites to see and do.
The caravan of 200 sq feet was plenty for our visit. It is comparable in size to a small hotel suite. The shower set-up was interesting. The shower and toilet are close together in one room, meaning the toilet gets a shower, too. However, it was not an issue. If the toilet wasn’t dry by the time needing it, we just wiped it off. We appreciated the use of space in this Caravan.
It was so cozy that we went to the grocery store in town and grilled dinner at ‘home’ for the evening instead of eating out. The bed is very comfortable, too. One caution is to leave the window without a screen closed. There are a few bees in the area. However, we ate outside and didn’t have any problems with them. Just wanted to keep them outside the Caravan. ☺ We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The Garden Caravan is our first choice and recommendation in Sandpoint!

Great place to reconnect and renew.

  • 5 out of 5
I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday. Sandpoint, Idaho is a great little town and this was a great place to stay and enjoy it. The photos are very representative of the Garden Caravan but it is even more special in person. The setting is wonderful and we loved just hanging there. We prepared all our meals at the Caravan and the kitchen is very fun to cook in. I even got the hang of lighting a gas stove. The marine shower, although small, was very adequate even for my 6' 2" boyfriend. While we were there we hiked, got a run in around the rural neighborhood, swam at the very nice city beach and road our bikes on the The North Idaho Centennial Trail in Coeur d'Alene. Amy and Glenn were great hosts.

Tiny House Getaway

  • 5 out of 5
We really enjoyed staying at the Garden Caravan! It rained for much of our visit and the Caravan kept us warm and cozy. We loved the peaceful pond view from the window seat, the book collection, the well thought out design, and the metal art that ornamented the lawn.

It's clear that the owners have poured a lot of love and hard work into this tiny house! The attention to detail and clever layout make these small accommodations very comfortable.

This was our first visit to Sandpoint and we greatly appreciated that Amy took the time to recommend local restaurants and activities. We loved the tapas restaurant, the farmers market and the waterfall hikes.

On the hike to Copper Falls the sun finally made an appearance! A rainbow formed in the falls and it was here that Matt got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Beautiful Sandpoint and the charming Garden Caravan will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Amy and Glenn, thank you for the warm welcome and wonderful stay!

tiny house on wheels

  • 5 out of 5
Amy Hanson and her husband have created a magical escape just a short distance from downtown Sandpoint and accessable to lots of outdoor activities. The tiny house is charming, thoughtfully and artfully decorated and very cozy, peaceful and comfy. We loved our stay there and appreciated loan of hiking books and maps of the area. Coffee was great, as was the wine left for us! We will come again

Sandpoint, Lake Pend Oreille, Schweitzer ski area, and the Selkirk Mountains have it all. We are located only a few minutes drive (or bike ride) from the small, bustling and charming town of Sandpoint which sits on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille in the scenic mountains of Northern Idaho.

Sandpoint is a small resort town with lots of character. If you like diverse restaurants and shopping venues, there is plenty to keep you busy in our little town, or you can drive 45 minutes to Coeur d' Alene for even more excitement. Or if you are after music and culture, Sandpoint has so many live performers who are playing inside and out all through the summer.

If you enjoy biking, hiking, or lake sports, you can't do better then North Idaho. There are beaches right on the edge of town, or you can travel in any direction to find a remote, gorgeous spot for swimming, picnics, or a wilderness experience. We would be happy to give you recommendations based on 20+ years of living in and enjoying this area.
