The open living space contains kitchen with appliances, kitchen ware, dinnerware, cups, coffee pot, etc. Dining room and living room offers comfortable seating with views of the Caribbean from each window and the double sliding door. A selection of books, magazines, games and DVDs are available to guests as well.
The large L-shaped deck is ideal for watching sunsets, enjoy cocktails or grilling burgers. This elevated structure maximizes the ocean breezes in the area.
Cat Nap Cottage is a 5 minute drive (or less) away from Hidden Beach, Come n Go Beach, Smugglers Beach and The Rainbow Bay Inn & Restaurant/Bar and less than 5mins walking time to Rainbow Bay beach. However, the property is secluded enough with Rainbow Bay to avoid the noise of neighbors or stray dogs.

A 9th generation Bahamian who has been active in education for the past 20+ years. I have decided to share the beauty of this Family island with others. Come visit my home :-)
Melisa Groff purchased this cottage in 2013
Rainbow Bay is a quiet, beautiful piece of heaven. Its amazing ocean views from each location constantly provide a changing view of the Atlantic & Caribbean oceans. The small community is a tranquil place where visitors are frequently seen walking throughout the area taking photos of sunrises and sunsets. The 4 accessible beaches allows for beach hopping without leaving Rainbow Bay. Rainbow Bay Inn & Restaurant provides a quick location for entertainment and meals when you wish to leave your cottage. This cottage is about 5minutes walking distance to Rainbow Beach.
Rainbow Bay is also close enough to several island communities and other beaches to make exploring and day trips an exciting and easy excursion.
This brand new property has not had the wear & tear of many rental properties and can provide a spacious environment that can be ideal as a base camp for daily excursions and yet peaceful enough to mornings at home drinking coffee and evening watching the sunset off the L shaped deck. The 5 min walk to Rainbow Bay Beach with its tiki huts is perfect for an afternoon of snorkling and sunbathing. We have a golf cart for use in Rainbow Bay and a rental car is also available to guests. Available airport transfers make your vacation smoother.
As others have said, Eleuthera is not for everyone. Very little shopping or night life. We tended to stay in at night because the "highway" is two lanes, very dark, and they drive on the left side. Having said that, it was exactly what we were looking for and Cat Napp is the perfect place to stay. Our two adult daughters came along for the first two weeks and I thought they might get bored. They didn't at all. In fact, they'd love to go back and found the island very beautiful. It's probably one of the few islands to not be built up so exploring, laying on the beach and relaxing are the highlights. Rainbow Bay is in the middle of the island, so going north or south was no problem. I would highly recommend you rent Melisa's car for your entire trip as we found we were out exploring or going to the store almost daily. If you do rent the car, you will not need the golf cart. It was fun going to the beach with it, but the car does fine. The beach is about 8/10 of a mile from the house, so we found nothing was within walking distance. The cart CANNOT go on Queens Highway. We loved The Front Porch for lunch or dinner. The owners Francis and Gina are very personable and it was the best food we had. Sammy's Bar at the Sky Beach Resort has a great view and he also was a great bartender. Tippy's on Banks Road was good. Avoid Da Spot. Others we met who had been here before told us they vacuum pack & freeze meat and pack it in checked luggage. Great idea. It is VERY expensive to buy anything. Milk was $9-12 per gallon. The Shopping Center (one building) in North Eleuthera had the best selection and value and was worth the drive for groceries. There is also a larger store in Gov. Harbor. East & Final and JR in James Cistern were more for picking up a few things. The third week we finally found a bakery in Gov. Harbor. Turn next to the Burrows and follow signs. The only bargain on the island!! If you go to Harbour Island, get the exotic conch salad which has fruit in in and get mild or medium. I think the hot will blow the top of your head off. We spent a lot of time searching for beaches that we didn't find. Or we found them and the access was a narrow dirt road filled with holes that we didn't think was passable. Rainbow Bay Beach was wonderful. The water was a little chilly and it was unusually breezy, but we thought it was paradise. Melisa was absolutely wonderful to work with & we would go back!!
This was my family's fourth trip to the beautiful island of Eleuthera. The Cat Nap was the perfect place to lay our heads at the end of a fabulous day of exploring and beaching. The home is newly constructed and well stocked with linens and several kitchen items, as well as games and puzzles. Melisa is very friendly and easy to work with. Access to a vehicle and golf cart makes guests' stays even simpler. Our family enjoyed both Melisa and her beautiful home!
In 15 years of coming to Eleuthera for research, the Cat Nap cottage was by far the best place I have ever stayed. If you like a quiet place away from the tourist traps, this is the perfect location. Beaches on both the Atlantic and sound side of the island are easily accessible with a short drive, or a long, but easy walk. The cottage is clean, well maintained and Melisa was very responsive and easy to work with. The place is fully stocked and you can't beat the price!
A car is a must if you want to explore the island. We rented one out of Rock Sound, but should have just rented Melisa's jeep. It would have been far easier. Alternatively, if you are just looking for a quiet place without much exploring, Melisa's golf cart will get you to the critical spots nearby.
Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! I'll be back for sure, and next time it won't be for work!
Fabulous accommodations, perfect location for us,quiet, comfortable, clean, internet access and NO PHONE : ) !!! we have no complaints!
However, the listing has left out one very important feature....the indescribable night sky!!!
We chose Catnap for our third trip to Eleuthera and couldn't have been more pleased. The house is very nice and new and in a great location! Melisa was very accommodating and responsive any time we needed anything at all. Being in Rainbow Bay was very quiet, convenient, and central to most of the beaches that we like to explore. We made good use of the grill on the deck and it was nice having wifi to check in with the family. We would definitely recommend this rental!
Hi Folks, we stayed at the Cat Nap cottage for 7 days and it was one of the best vacations we've ever experienced. The pictures of the house don't do it justice, it is actually quite spacious, bright, modern and light. It was also well stocked with snorkeling gear, cooler, chairs, towels all kitchen needs --- Highly recommend renting the Jeep Melisa offers - the car is a must as there are so many beautiful beaches nearby and it's great for exploring. The cottage is in very close proximity to several grocery stores - but be aware that the food prices on the island are a bit steep and you may want to bring some essentials with you. We loved Rainbow Bay, Governors Harbor (pick up fresh fish at 2pm), Cocodimama beach, Winding Bay...and all the beaches we randomly stumbled on. Overall, best beach house on the island and Melisa is so great and accommodating. Best vacation ever! Go with Cat Nap Cottage!
The cottage is less than 5 mins away from 4 beaches, the Cliffs heritage site and the Rainbow Bay Restaurant & Bar. All are located in Rainbow Bay. Cat Nap is also less than 10mins from James Cistern with its great shelling beach, special BBQ days, and 2 grocery stores. It is less than 10mins from Hatchet Bay where Twin Brothers - Home of the Daiquiri is located and local hangout The Spot. There is also a grocery here. Drive South (20mins) to Cocodimama Beach, Governor's Harbour & Cupid's Cay. Drive North to Gregory Town with the Laughing Lizard Cafe, Glass Window Bridge & the Queen's Bath (about 25mins).
