About this property

Stylish and cozy: Austrian wooden chalet for 8, only 300m from slopes

Our cozy wooden holiday chalet (built in 2007) offers comfortable space for 2 families or groups of up to 8 adults. The interior is decorated in typical, high-quality Austrian style: the country-style furniture is locally made by master craftsmen and we opted for traditional Salzburg linen curtains and a designer ceramic gas oven. You will also find original artworks and antiques to complement our beautiful holiday home.

Two light-filled bathrooms offer adequate space for 2 families. In the 3 bedrooms, we designed 2 double beds made from special Arolla High Altitude Pine (promoting deep sleep) and 4 bunk beds, all with quality mattresses.

On the technical side, we offer free WIFI for our guests, as well as a cable TV (some English channels), multi-zone DVD player, a WII console with games and an HDMI cable for connection to your streaming devices.
Our modern kitchen will satisfy expert cooks - all necessary machines and accessories are available (Nespresso or filter coffee machine), including a toaster, electric kettle, dishwasher and washing machine.

Skiing season:
The ski slopes can be reached on foot in only 300m distance, which even children can easily manage. Enjoy 160km of slopes in our family-friendly skiing area Dachstein-West. The state-of-the-art Donnerkogelbahn gondola lift connects you to all slopes of our skiing area. A beautiful "bunny hill" for beginners and the excellent ski school Freeride Alpin at Astauwinkel are only 500m away, so all level skiers will enjoy according to their skills. Even non-skiers can go up to meet the skiers for lunch by using the walking paths to the restaurants. On the slopes, you might meet another famous village neighbour, Marcel Hirscher, Austria's world famous dowhill skier, who won the Alpine Ski World Cup eight years in a row, from 2012-19!

In winter, you will delight in spending cozy nights on our stylish leather sofa, watching the flames dance in our designer gas oven. In summer, our extended porch invites you to play or chat over an Austrian beer, delighting in the clear mountain air and starry skies....

The facilities in the reception building of the hotel village (50m) are accessible to our guests free of charge; this includes a heated indoor pool (kids' favourite!), a sauna, a mini-shop and café. Please note that these facilities generally remain closed from beginning of April to mid May, and from beginning of Nov to the first week of December (start of the skiing season). However, you can still rent our holiday house during these periods for a low season price.

For your bigger shopping trips, drive down 5 min into the village Annaberg, where you can find a modern supermarket, bakery, butcher, banks, post office, small stores and several restaurants.

Great location in a very comfortable chalet
'John's Hütte' is situated in a wonderful location, close to local amenities and surrounded by magnificent mountain scenery. Annaberg in the Lammertal Valley is well-situated for visits to well-known places such as Hallstatt and Zell-am-see but a key attraction (in summer) is the opportunity to explore nearby mountain hiking trails. The summit can be accessed via the nearby chair-lift offering breathtaking views in the tranquil clear fresh air; the numerous paths lead to a number of welcoming mountain huts with good food and refreshments. The chalet is comfortable and well-furnished with beautiful views of the mountains. There is constant hot water with effective heating. The nearby site reception offices has a small shop, offers meals and also take-out pizza. Annaberg has a good bakery and small supermarket. We two couples thoroughly recommend this area of Austria for a late summer holiday as the Lammertal valley at this time is relatively quiet. 'John's Hütte' suited us perfectly!

Will definitely come back!
Everything was exactly as advertised. All of the tips and recommendations that were given by Ulrike were top notch, including the restaurants. In addition to an immaculate cabin, the facilities at the resort were also excellent. All interactions with the owner were very positive. There was only one minor hiccup with the transfer of information prior to our arrival (i.e. who to meet, where to go) that was only resolved day of our departure. I would certainly recommend this property to all types of vacationers (esp. families, couples, golfers). Highly recommend the salt mines in Berchtesgaden and the trip to the Eagles Nest. There were so many things to do, we too did not make it to Salzburg althougnonly 45 minutes away.

We LOVED this lovely and cozy home away from home!
We booked this cabin on a whim because we had a last minute chance to get away for a week, and what a fantastic week it was- one of our favorite vacations ever. The views and scenery are straight from the travel brochures or the movies- we really felt like we spent a week in "The Sound of Music." The cabin is not really a cabin- it's a full, spacious home with plenty of room for two families. The cabin decor is local, authentic, cozy, warm and clean. You're surrounded by pine and have all of the modern conveniences. The beds were large and super comfortable. We also felt like this cabin had the best location in the whole village, because since it's the last one in the row, there are no neighbors on either side that can see in the windows. When you look out, you only see green trees on one side, or the mountains on the other. Also, this cabin is the closest one to the pool & restaurant- just a 3 or 4 minute walk. We had no idea there were so many wonderful things to do so close by. We rode the Summer Rodelbahn, jumped on trampolines, played mini-golf, went to the salt mines (on the only rainy day), went hiking in the mountains, went to an outdoor farming museum, swam at the pool every day, went to fantastic restaurants and playgrounds (usually located together so we could enjoy a great meal while the kids played), and went to Burg Hohenwerfen (a castle on a mountain top seen in The Sound of Music- after touring the castle we saw a great falcon show there). In fact we were so busy that we never even made it to nearby Salzburg, which had originally been our first priority! We loved it so much that we have already booked it again for the winter- can't wait to enjoy the skiing and the fireplace!

Good experience, a bit overpriced.
We had a wonderful time during the last week of the year. Convenient location walking to skiing pistas and rentals. Beautiful views. Great response from owner when needed. Comfortable cabin for all 6 people, but common areas a bit tight and limited entertainment options if staying indoors (eg: no smart tv to connect to movie apps). Picture in the add does not show a water tank (or similar) located on one side of the house. Given the high cost of rental, additional fees from vrbo and from owner, we were expecting a bit more on the hospitality upon arrival - Simple things that don’t cost much but add to the experience, but overall very good holiday.

When we first stayed in the Alpendorf in 2006, our German-American family loved the nature and the region so much, that the decision to buy our holiday chalet here was made without any hesitation! Our two sons were 3 and 7 years old at the time.
As we have lived in 6 countries during the last 14 years, we are every year very happy to return to our 'Austrian Home' and have never regretted our investment for even a second...

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the concept of the Alpendorf because our privacy is important to us. Every family or group can be in their own cozy chalet, but the practical extras like restaurant, indoor pool, Ski rental and reception are at the guest's disposal in the administration building, a stone's throw from our house.

What makes this property unique

Here in the fresh pure mountain air, our children and ourselves can relax from school and work stress during every season of the year. We ski, mountainbike, hike and explore the region around Salzburg that has so much to offer: magnificent nature, exciting, well-organized activities and amazing culture! Mom, Dad and the kids each have their favourite activities, be it the summer downhill sled, winter downhill skiing, mountain biking, hiking over gorgeous alpine paths and eating lunch in the rustic huts at high altitude, or shopping and museum hopping in the amazingly beautiful city of Salzburg.
