This summer we were fortunate to stay in Villa Melograno.
We've had a terrific 3 week stay in the Villa situated in the rural area just outside Ostuni! It was such a nice experience to stay on a 2 ha (former) farm, it was really something very different and that added great value to our holiday- the peace and quietness of Villa Melograno.
The Villa boast magnicifent views, the best of the whole area. We have 2 small children and they also enjoyed it very much.
We found the Villa very well-equiped, clean and in good maintanance, one can see that the owners continuously strive to improve the Villa.
The description of the Villa was accurate, we've found everything as described.
Thank you Alexis for the detail information pack that you've provided prior to our holiday. This way we already had fun before the holiday started. Thanks also for the accurate route description with the photo's! Without that we were lost, but with your descriptions, we made no wrong turn!
Thanks also for the kind e-mail correspondation before the holiday.
We also used the pool for the 3 weeks of our stay. The pool was well kept and maintained by the local manager of the Villa (Saverio).
Thanks also to Saverio for all the kind help and nice little chats that we had. All his tips were very very good!
We were also fortunate to taste the first very sweet figs from the trees. Thanks Saverio!
We've also enjoyed Ostuni very much, what a delight to walk the centro storico (old town).
This part of Italy is so different from the other parts. We've never been to this part of Italy before so it was a very nice surprise!
One of our best stops was the Cantina " De Laurentis" (Ostuni). What a wonderful selection of wines and product of the region! The best olives and olive oils that we ever had!
Ostuni has very good restaurants for very reasonable prices, our best restaurant was Al Solito Posto (also a tip from Saverio).
We've enjoyed Cisternino, especially the nice playground under the trees with the magnificent view.
The best ice cream in the world comes from Alberobello, a little shop called: DELIZIA, in a small street just outside of the mainstream.
We enjoyed the beaches, all on a good driving distance from the Villa.
I can go on and on about the Villa and Ostuni, but my characters are shrinking.
I think I can sum it all up: We would like to return to Ostuni again in the future, and we will then choose Villa Melograno again!
We are Cliff and Alexandra Bayliss; we live in Ironbridge, in the UK and go to our villa as often as we can. Cliff is retired, and looks after my 80 year old Mother; who also loves the villa. (Mother in the photo of Brindisi Harbour with Jenny her Westie.
Cliff and I purchased the property in 2004 whilst we were on our honeymoon. The property was very run down but we fell in love with it from the first moment we saw it.
The views from the villa are we believe some of the best within this area. The villa and its 2 hectares of land have great potential but at the moment we are happy just enjoying it and sharing that enjoyment with people who want to share our experience.
We have named the villa 'Villa Melograno' after the pomegrante trees that grow on the land and at the back of the vllla.
Previously, a farm the villa has some very rustic features. Year on year we have tried to improve on the property and it's surroundings, but we don't want to spoil the villas charm and tranquility.
In 2012 we installed air conditioning and in 2013 we had a swimming pool, sun deck/eating and barbecue area constructed.
Our clients have expressed their experiences within the villa as being tranquil, peaceful, relaxing; these are all of the sentiments we felt when we purchased the villa.
One American family that rented the villa described how they and their small children loved the wild life. The tree crickets can be noisy in the summer, but even they take a siesta. There is a wide range of butterflies and a moth that looks like a hummingbird. The geko's are just fun.
We do not use chemicals on the land and so at different times of the year there are many flowers, wild fennel and capers. (Understandably though in summer vegetation is kept to a minimum in case of fires.) Our olives are collected by Saverio who looks after the villa when we are not there and our oil is produced. We hope at some point to be able to sell our oil and prepared capers to our clients who visit the villa.
