A real dose of luxury in the heart of Rome
Krista and Elio are absolute sweethearts and have thought of everything to make the stay in this wonderful apartment as perfect as possible. Such kind people - but never intrusive. A well-stocked kitchen (in a cupboard!) means not having to buy any basics when you arrive, and anyway the charming local supermarket isn’t far away. So we ate at home in the evenings more than we'd expected, even though there are plenty of good restaurants nearby of course, including one at the foot of the apartment building.
The beds are really comfortable, and even though I went with a dear friend I’ve known for 40 years, it was great to have a bathroom each! And so useful to have hairdryers and an iron provided.
But it’s the enormous roof terrace that makes this such an idyllic place - with a morning patch for breakfast facing the ‘Wedding Cake’, swifts wheeling overhead, and an evening patch for Prosecco and watching the sun set over the Vatican. And it’s so incredibly quiet! Apart from the odd roar of approbation from the crowd watching a busker down below in Piazza di Spagna, you hear nothing: it's a completely tranquil haven, especially at the end of days spent walking and walking. (The metro is of course extremely convenient, as is the taxi rank, but it’s still vital to take comfortable footwear as the cobbled side-streets get extremely wearing, and Rome is certainly a city where you need to walk!)
All in all, it was a real treat to be there, and a perfect way to celebrate my 60th - thank you to our wonderful hosts and I would love to go back one day!
