Each property with own facilities in Paleocastritsa. Rented separately or together set in 2,000 sq metres of mature gardens with roses, jasmine and rosemary under 500 year old olive trees. Accredited by the Greek Tourist Board. Both the villas have separate, private verandas and gardens with own BBQ's but same pathway. Quiet location, very short walk to local tavernas, bars, minimarkets and beaches. Free pool use, five beaches & water sports, five to ten mins walk away. Regular buses. Footpaths to mountain villages & famous views of Bella Vista and castle ruins. 12th century monastery, green olive and cypress trees, gorgeous! Great for singles, couples or families. Golf & Aqualand 15 mins drive. AC, satellite TV /DVD and internet inclusive, bring laptop! Both villas well furnished. All you need!

Around Paleocastritsa: The villas are situated in a quiet olive grove above the road on a cliff edge, 5 mins walk from the beaches and small supermarkets. The Oddyseus Hotel (a small family taverna) just below us offers our guests free use of their swimming pool and other facilities (2 mins walk). They host a Greek dancing night every week. From the door of Villa Nola you can walk (45mins) on a very old Byzantium pathway up the mountain to the village of Lakones. The views are amazing over the blue Ionian sea to the Albanian mountains on a clear day. There are tavernas and the famous Bella Vista cafe and viewpoint. The scenes are breath taking. There are many small picturesque, interesting villages within a few kilometres drive where you can experience the Greek village life at first hand and visit their churches/museums. There is a bus that runs every 30 minutes from Paleocastritsa to Corfu town in the summer. Corfu town is 25 kms away. The Delfini taverna below Villa Nola is perfect for meals and a swim.

Corfu Town : Kerkyra ( known as Corfu) The café at the Liston was built by the French in 18th century. The Palace of St. Michael and St. George to the left of the Liston, was built by the British and used as the official residence of the Governor. Prince Philip was born there.St. Spiridon's Church, home to the island's patron 'mummified' saint, is just behind the Liston. The church is impressive and worth visiting, but ensure you are suitably dressed. During the summer there are nightly musical performances of Sound & Light. (The second world war British hospital at the centre of the fort has now been turned into a music school.) The fort is worth a visit during the day. Facing the Liston Esplanade is the Old Fort which was built between the 6th & 19th centuries. The narrow streets radiating off from the Liston, house small shops, churches old mansions, museums or a secret garden. Shopping in all the small shops is a delight and eating at the small tavernas.Wireless Internet at the Villas.

Greek Way of Life, Flora and Fauna : Timing. Greeks do not expect quick service and often frown upon food that is too hot! Waiters will not rush you and will rarely deliver food in the same order as it was placed. Dishes sometimes arrive as and when they are ready - just sit back and relax and you will soon adjust to the Greek way of life! Corfu is small enough to be friendly and large enough to provide you with a never ending change of scenic beauty. And it is never difficult to get from one part of this island paradise to another. Drive around Corfu you can discover the magnificently scenic East coast to the equally impressive, more rugged and quieter West coast. The drives are picturesque, past quaint little villas and thousands of olive trees. The roads aren't crowded, except around the town centre for despite its centuries of history and its splendid beaches and sunlit bays, Corfu remains unspoilt. The olive groves at Villa Nola are 2,000 years old. NEW ADDITION for Villa Nola 72 sq metre patio with stunning sea views

About Jane Hofmann-Thomson

Family has owned the land since 1969 and we have slowly built the two villas and invested in the land and have protected the beautiful views. I am British but have lived abroad for 40 years. Born in Nottingham and grew up in Cornwall and worked in London and abroad. I am happily married with one child and two step children. I have had the honour and pleasure to work for such companies as Vogue magasine (Conde Nast) in London, The Guardian, Emirates Airlines and am now since 1989 working in Muscat, Oman and Dubai, UAE as a Business Consultant. I visit Corfu often and have two wonderful people helping me take care of the property, they are from a nearby village. Yvonne welcomes you and Jimmy (Dimitri) helps with the garden and is our handyman. I love my home and its location and views and love sharing it with guests who understand what we have to offer in our simple, Greek way.

Jane Hofmann-Thomson purchased this villa in 1969

Why Jane Hofmann-Thomson chose Paleokastritsa

The location is unbeatable and you have the local support team to look after you if you require their help. Price is very suitable for all the facilities you have, internet, satellite TV, all mod cons and beauty. Paleocastritsa is considered a famous beauty spot and has 5 beaches , all within walking distance, shops and minimarkets and a swimmingpool a short two minute walk away for use free of charge. Self drive or accompanied boat rides to all other bays, diving, paragliding all manner of sports, tennis and golf and Aqualand not far either. Lovely old byzantium walks to other villages and Pheonecian ruins too. We have it all and the best views on the island as well as peace and quiet! Gorgeous gardens and BBQ's , very well looked after, lovely destination for a great holiday in comfortable villas with unbeatable surroundings and views.

What makes this villa unique

Registered with and member of the Greek Tourism Board EOT MHTE number 0829K121K0201900. The 72 sq metre patio in front of Nola really adds to the whole and is just the place for meals and sundowners with breathtaking views! Stephanie is cosy and homely nestled in olive trees with shade from the hot sun. both villas are very much loved, You can read from our reveiws how much!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had a really super holiday, thank you and am now back at work. The glitches we encountered were really so minor that they had no bearing on the fun and friendship I enjoyed. Von is so professional that she had everything sorted and smoothed over in such a way that everyone affected simply felt glad that she was around! Not many people give as much as she does to their clients. I can't imagine a big company being able to offer the personal attention that one gets from you and the folk you have engaged to represent you in Corfu.

I would love to stay at Villa Stephanie again next year on the equivalent dates in June 2015.

Perfect break

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect break for us - it was a last minute decision and we were fortunate to find a window in which we could book this villa for four nights. (Unusual as it is very popular - and it is easy to see why).

We couldn't have asked for better weather and the location is gorgeous. Arriving in the middle of the afternoon we were immediately able to relax in the shade of the olive grove the villa sits amongst. The manager - Yvonne - is an absolute star and made sure we had everything we needed. But you don't need much there, and it is all on your doorstep.

Paleocastritsa is idyllic - will definitely be back. The villa (we stayed in Stephanie, which although it doesn't have the sea view that it's sister villa - Nova - has, it has real character and the benefit of the garden and shade of the olive and lemon trees) is just a short walk from all the tavernas, the beaches and there is a hotel that lets you use their pool. But the Ionian Sea is the place to swim.

This is excellent value, a real find. I don't want to praise it too much as we will definitely be booking for next year and so we want it to be available for us!

Owner's Response: Perfect! Yet more very satisfied guests:-) and very welcome back in 2015! The sister Villa is Villa Nola {not Nova:-)} and has the panoramic sea views but as the reviewers say Stephanie has the dappled shade of the olive trees! It seems so strange but Paleocastritsa has not changed very much in the 45 years it has been our home and even with the tourism of the boom 70's and 80's it seems to have defied change. No buildings two floors above road level, the monastery owns many of the olive groves as far as the eye can see and we are a protected greenbelt area:-) The only real tourism comes from the coaches visiting the monastery during the day but they just pass through, stop for a while and leave so towards evening and even during most days Paleocastritsa is not very crowded and manages to keep its charm. We count ourselves lucky to be able to offer you an opportunity to stay with us in our simple comfortable homes and we have already started accepting bookings for next year:-) If you like the ideas the guest reviews are giving you I am sure our accommodation and location with suit you. Kalos Oresis! You are most Welcome!

Lovely, peaceful holiday

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed at Villa Stephanie for a week at the end of June and had a lovely holiday.

The property cannot be faulted, everything is there for you and the surrounding gardens are gorgeous and give it a peaceful, secluded feel. We were welcomed to the villa be Yvonne who put us straight at ease, organised when would be best for her to come and clean during the week and gave us her mobile number in case we had any questions - we did and these were answered very promptly.

The are is easily walkable and if you follow the path down, turn right and keep walking past the boat hire centre you will come to Kathys supermarket which is considerably cheaper than the supermarket just around the corner from the villa steps. Continuing past Kathy's is the beach on your left hand side -and despite getting busy the beach is clean and the water is beautiful - turquoise. At the far side of the beach is a section of sun loungers which are owned by the restaurant and costs 7 euros for two sun loungers and a parasol and they will also bring you out a big bottle of cold water.

There are tavernas just at the bottom of the steps of the path from the villa or you can walk further afield to bigger restaurants, though we were completely happy with the ones we visited close by - Horizon, Belvedere, Smurfs. We also had a BBQ one night using the big BBQ in the garden.

One cloudy day we got the bus into Corfu town, it was only a couple of euros each and the bus stop with timetable is opposite the bottom of the steps leading up to the villa. If you do got to Corfu town, I would highly recommend visiting the British Cemetery - it is set in beautiful gardens and the inscriptions are so moving. It feels so calm and tranquil after the hustle and bustle of Corfu Town.

We also walked up the donkey path to the village of Lakones, which is a hot and dusty walk up but the views are well worth it and it is downhill on the way back anyway!! We also walked up to the monastery which i s a nice sight and across to St Nicholas's panoramic hill.

You can also hire boats for the day but I would just say be wary of Mario who runs this, he is out to get any money he can, and changes from friendly to menacing quickly, if things do not go his way.

All in all, we had a fantastic week at this villa and thoroughly recommend the villa and area! Thanks again to Yvonne for all her help whilst we were there and Jane for making the booking process smooth and easy and to George the taxi man!

Owner's Response: A lovely, very detailed excellent review for us and we are so happy that our guests really enjoy, as they should, their time with us:-) I believe this review will be of great help to future guests and we have enjoyed another virtually fully booked season again because of that! We are already planning our investment into the property again this winter with a new roof for Villa Nola and the usual maintenance that we do every year for the 2015 season. We will try and find "Mario" and give him your feedback diplomatically as we find that is such a shame to experience when all else was so lovely! We are ready for next years bookings at any time and already have a couple of guests booked for 2015!

A lovely property in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Very secluded, but only a short walk from 2 of the several coves that make up Paleocastrisa.

Everything was exactly as described - can't fault it.

We went in the week before Easter and many places were still closed, but enough were open for it not to be a problem. Go in May onwards and everywhere will be open.

Hiogly reccomended.

Owner's Response: April sometimes beautifully sunny, not too warm with showers but can be chilly at nights and have downpours that after two hours stop and the sun comes out! Some of the locals here often wait until after Easter (if Easter falls in April) to open their doors which we find a shame as the quiet and sereneness of Paleocastritsa is at its best and if you like hiking and walking or just relaxing it is the best time of year, April, May and June. However as Steve so rightly says there are enough places open. Easter dates change every year so please check the Orthodox Easter dates before you come. Easter is a particularly wonderful time to come full of processions and pageants, very well worth seeing. Corfu is famous in Greece for its Easter celebrations. We have oil central heating and AC that warms as well as cools for any weather:-) Our gardens and views are stunning at this time of year:-)

Fantastic stay!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay last summer in Villa Stephanie, it was the perfect getaway for us and our 2 year old daughter. Jane, thank you so much for all your help in accomodating our needs and your excellent commmunication before the stay and thank you Yvonne for your lovely welcome and all your help and advice whislt we were there. The villa is lovely and is in a fantastic location with a great setting, with plenty of options for beaches, restaurants & cafes and things to see and do. It has a great atmosphere and feel to it, the nights sat outside relaxing and barbequeing were wonderful. The walk up to Lakones is a must, the ice cream parlour at the top of the hill is well worth the walk!! We would love to return to Nola or Stephanie, highly recommended. Owner's Response: We are so happy to have guests remember us and their stay at Villa Stephanie. It is a real jewel and so relaxing under the olive trees:-) We work hard in the winter months updating, painting and improving the property every year. This year the paintwork and new bathroom for Stephanie. The garden is looking great and being planted for the season too. Welcome to those of you who want to rent a "home from home" type of property, near to shops, tavernas and beaches but still set back, quiet and relaxed:-) Welcome in 2014!

Villa Stephanie, Paleokastritsa

I spent a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing week in Stephanie. The setting is peaceful and pretty with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The villa itself contained everything I needed and is within an easy stroll of the village and the beaches. I followed the goat path to Lakones and was rewarded by what must be some of the most spectacular views on the island. Despite being towards the end of the season, the local folk were all welcoming and happy to give of their time and humour! Everyone wants a chat! Yvonne was so helpful and her local knowledge is invaluable. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she has a solution for everything! I felt totally relaxed from the moment I met George at the airport and all my stress was left behind. Thankyou Jane. You said it was what I needed and you were so right. I would love to go back and intend to book for next year as soon as I can arrange the leave.

You are most welcome to Villa Nola or Villa Stephanie for a great unforgettable lovely holiday in 2014!

My husband and I returned yesterday from a wonderful week at the Villa Nola. We loved the amazing views from the terrace and the peaceful situation.

The villa was very clean and well equipped. Yvonne, the caretaker is a lovely lady who gave us a lot of useful information about the village and surrounding area.

We walked up the donkey track to the hilltop village of Lakones which has spectacular views. We hired a car for one day and headed north west enjoying lunch at the clifftop Dionysos Restaurant in the village of Afionas. Amazing views again ! Afionas village is lovely with a good art gallery/shop with beautiful handmade jewellery and other works of art.

We had one dull day when we went by bus to Corfu town which we enjoyed.

As it was early in the season, few restaurants in Paleo were open. We did, however, discover the Apollon Hotel restaurant which had good homemade food at reasonable prices and friendly staff.

Thank you, Jane and Yvonne for providing such a pleasant place to stay in a really beautiful part of the island.
