Spacious house high up in the old town area of Oliva. Oliva is an unspoilt market town which is in the 'Oranges and Lemons' region of Valencia, midway between Alicante and Valencia. Good value for money

  • 4 out of 5
The townhouse was large and airy with a lovely roof terrace and close to all amenities, parking was a bit hit and miss especially on bank holidays, Oliva itself is a fascinating town and the drive from Pego over the Coll de Rates and on to the Fonts de Algar is spectacular. Dave and Eileen were both extremely helpful.
We would thoroughly recommend thus property to anyone wanting to explore this area.

just right

In the heart of a maze of small roads, the house in Oliva was clean, comfortable with wonderful views across the town. Plenty of room, with glorious terrace. Access coming and going was easily arranged and smoothly executed. The owner was very helpful providing clear and succinct notes on directions, the house, services, locations, shops & restaurant recommendations. We had a wonderful time exploring, did not feel we needed a car, hired bikes and cycled to the beaches, Fort Salada, a beautiful spot to swim and eat, through Orange Groves to Gandia. We had a lovely time in a lovely Spanish spot in a lovely house with lovely views.

Excellent, well sized, and inexpensive

  • 5 out of 5
Having just finished college, five friends and I were looking for a well situated, peaceful, and most importantly inexpensive (being students) place to stay for a week or so- and this townhouse does not disappoint!

Oliva is a relatively quiet town, mostly made up of Spanish locals; hence why it is considered a 'traditional' Spanish town. Despite this, there are plenty of English bars, alongside the odd English person here and there. There is a range of shops and restaurants in the area, all of which are in short walking distance, and are surprisingly cheap considering the good quality; 1.50 euros for a beer was a welcome change from the UK. The beach is a 40 minute walk from the apartment, and while this was a little tiresome at times, the bars along the way made it less of a hassle, and all and all it was definitely worth it for the great beaches. On another note, carrying shopping up the steep hill to the townhouse wasn't all too much fun must admit (particularly in the heat of July) , yet the elevation of the apartment was worth it for the fantastic terrace views of the town and beyond.

Which brings me on to the townhouse itself. To our surprise the place was much larger than we had anticipated- the pictures of the house just don't do it justice! And with a double bed, two single beds, a fold out sofa double bed, as well as two regular sofas, there was plenty of space for all six of us to sleep. Furthermore, utilities are a plenty: the kitchen was perfect for self catering (again, students), the bathroom was spacious and had both a shower and a bath, and the living room had a TV with free view and a DVD player; Monopoly was also a big plus of course. By far the most inviting part of the house was the roof terrace, which supplied us with a BBQ and seating, to accompany the excellent views of the town. For those who would like to know, the BBQ was supplied with coal, and all the other necessary tools to start cooking.

Other quick mentions include the ease of communication with the owner, Dave Betts, who made the whole renting process simple and quick, as well as the housekeeper Eileen, who gave us a quick tour of the area on arrival, and gave us her number in case we had any problems. For anyone worrying about transport in the area, when not on foot we were using public transport, which consists of a few buses, as well as a train station nearby (which we took to get to Valencia).

All and all a great holiday, five stars all round!

Three Month Stay In Old Town Oliva

  • 5 out of 5
Dave, I've been meaning to let you know more fully how your townhouse allowed us to explore and enjoy the lovely town of Oliva. Although you weren't necessarily set up for long term renting we appreciated your agreeing to provide some extra pots & utensils for the kitchen which made our cooking very enjoyable for the three months.

We were very comfortable in the townhouse even in the winter. We had several fires in the wood burner and found the gas heater very effective. The back bedroom did need the extra blankets for warmth but the front bedroom was cosy. Having 2 bathrooms for 2 couples certainly was a great extra your townhouse provided.

The location in the old town meant we were within walking distance of all the markets & shops; just a quick trip out of town & into the orange groves for long walks; near enough to the castle ruins & hills behind the town. The beach was a good walk we enjoyed many times with the dogs.

Having the Pelut restaurant just two blocks away was fortuitous. The cuisine was great and the atmosphere lively. We explored many of the other local pubs & restaurants in Oliva, many of which provided WiFi which was very handy.

Again Dave, we thank you for your accommodations. Karl & I are already making plans to come back to Oliva and hopefully spend a full six months next time.

Nice, quiet and easy

  • 4 out of 5
We spent two weeks in the house with two adults, two tweenagers and two little ones: it's a very nice house, on a nice spot for a (very!) nice price. For teenagers that want to hang out: it's not a village with lots of disco's, etc.
Nice, quiet and clean beaches nearby.
Contact with owner Dave by email (and welcome by Eileen and husband in Oliva) were pleasant as well.

An enjoyable stay in Oliva

  • 4 out of 5
The house was as described and had all the necessary facilities. Staying in the old town provided real character and colour and being off the tourist paths was a bonus. We really enjoyed Oliva - a town with a substantial slice of reality - and enjoyed finding new ways through the maze of streets to get to places. Oliva's attractions are modest but almost more worthwhile because of that and because of the effort which has gone in to the museums and the churches - and a friendly welcome ensued. Oliva is also ideal for getting to places for a change of pace - the hills are nearby, as is the beach, and Valencia is a short and efficient train journey away (better than taking the car). Oliva has good facilities and amenities though a little short of really good restaurants. Even at this popular time of year the beaches were not over-crowded and were pretty quiet relative to the nearby resorts. We would go back - without question.

Oliva is in the 'Orange blossom coast' of Spain. Within a few minutes drive from the house you will find orange and lemon groves, mountains, miles of beautiful beaches and many lovely towns and villages. If you fancy something more 'touristy' you could drive south towards Benidorm and Alicante, where you will soon find many facilities for tourists, including a large theme park. There are plenty of more sedate activities nearby, including golfing and yachting. Going north from Oliva will take you into Valencia, which is Spain's third largest city and is well worth a visit.
