RESTORED PLANTATION MANAGER'S COTTAGE, TWO DOORS FROM BEACH

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Kekaha

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.25 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Kamewile Cottage, is an original sugar plantation manager’s cottage, lovingly renovated and beautifully appointed in Island Style. It features a new fully-equipped kitchen, new bath, two spacious bedrooms, comfortable living room, lanai, and landscaped garden. Its nine and a half foot ceilings, giant airy windows, original crown moldings and wainscoting, original wood floors, and tropical ceiling fans in each room give you the feeling of 'paradise of old.'

The home is in Kekaha, the sunniest area of Kauai boasting the longest white sand beach in the Hawaiian Islands. This is the true Hawaii, away from the tourist-filled beaches and stores, where church services and grocery-store conversations are still heard in the Hawaiian language. Yet great restaurants, grocery, farmers market, shops, art galleries, and great Kauai outdoor activities are minutes away. Kekaha is at the doorway to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, famous for its hiking opportunities and vistas of the Napoli coastline.

THE PERFECT WEST SIDE LOW-KEY DAY:

Awake for coffee on the garden lanai.

Take a morning walk on the longest white sand beach on Kauai.

Stop for lunch at the Lodge at Kokee before an invigorating hike in Waimea Canyon.

Wash off your hiking muscles in the outdoor hot shower.

Stroll two doors down to the beach, cocktail in hand, to watch the island’s best sunset.

Prepare a light supper in the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen.

Then sleep peacefully in your pillow-top king and queen beds with luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets.

Kamewile Cottage is rented under NCU certificate #TVNC-4216. On-island contact for emergencies: 808-639-0772.

LAUNCH PAD FOR ADVENTURE

  • 5 out of 5
We are an active family who like to get outside the fray of life. This cottage was the perfect spot to do it. Our kids ages 12 and 6 fell in love with the place and all it had to offer (as did we adults!). The outdoor shower, well stocked kitchen, cozy bedrooms and living room, fantastic deck where we took all our dinners, and yard where we lounged and hunted lizards all came together to wrap us in comfort. Our adventures included visiting the Hindu monastery and the sacred forest, hiking the Kuilau Ridge Trail, exploring the Sinkhole and hunting tortoises, hiking the Heritage trail, kayaking the Wailua river then hiking to the Uluwehi falls, hiking the phenomenal Waimea Canyon including the breathtaking Alakai Swamp, visiting the HOT Polihale Beach (look for the goats!), and each day spending time at the awesome Salt Pond Beach...usually with take-out from the Taco Stand! The snorkeling here was fantastic on the left end (facing the ocean) and we even lounged with a Monk Seal - at a respectful distance of course! Our kids spend a lot of time in our beautiful British Columbia forests but I think we may have some stiff competition with the beautiful island of Kauai now! Thank you for the amazing home for a week Pam and Mike!

FABULOUS HOME, VERY PRIVATE!

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed in this home for a week in Dec. We loved the location on the non crowded and sunny side of the island. Beds were comfortable and the home had everything that we needed. Even folding chairs that we took with us to the beach everyday. The location is very private. The yard was beautiful. We walked across the street and sat on the beach each evening to watch the incredible sunset. We highly recommend this home! You will not be disappointed.

GREAT HOUSE, GREAT LOCATION, GREAT EVERYTHING!

  • 5 out of 5
My wife and I like staying off the beaten path a bit, so this was exactly what we were looking for. Not in a touristy district, but with great access to hiking (2 minutes from access road to Waimea Canyon), wide open beaches almost to ourselves, and none of the traffic/congestion you'll find closer to the larger towns. Watched the sunsets on the beach every night with no other tourists in sight. House was PERFECT for us. Evening breezes kept us cool, sound of the crashing waves 100ft away lulled us to sleep, the outside shower was great, and I/we(?) loved all the geckos everywhere. I would recommend getting a compact rental car (or Jeep Wrangler) as the carport turn can be tight for a big beast of a rental like we got, but that's NOT a complaint about the house. Also, having a 4x4 can make access to some of the good hikes easier. Definitely give the Friday night Art Walk in Hanapepe a shot if you happen to be around. Two decent stores in Waimea for supplies to grill up out back or cook in the fully appointed kitchen, and not too far from restaurants if you decide to eat dinner out. Not exactly close, but that wasn't what we were looking for. We packed so many things that were already provided with the rental (snorkels, beach towels, bug spray, etc.) that we didn't end up using (make sure to check the closets and drawers before making a trip to the market for a "forgotten" item). We tried to list out our "pros/cons" for the house before I wrote this review, and the "cons" were non-existent while the "pros" could be summed up as "feels like home". We generally don't repeat travel destinations, but I would make an exception for both Kaua'i and this house. I would not hesitate to recommend this house to anybody, unless your idea of a perfect vacation is sitting in a resort and never leaving to enjoy what the island has to offer.

WAS EVERYTHING WE EXPECTED AND MORE!

  • 5 out of 5
I had this property bookmarked on my computer for a few years. I knew when we went to Kauai this would be the place for us to stay. We were not disappointed. Pam, the owner was very easy to work with and she definitely saw to every detail. We stayed two weeks and wish we could have stayed longer. The property is extremely comfortable and well equipped. The kitchen has all the necessities to cook a great meal plus an outdoor gas grill. The cupboards were stocked with spices. The home was spotless and the yard was blooming with flowers.
The outdoor shower was fun and it was nice to have the washer and dryer on site.
Some great restaurants were close such as The Beach House, Pomodoro's and the Shrimp Station. Weimea canyon was close and we suggest SaltbPond park for swimming.
Costco in about 45 mins away and we stopped for food and gasoline as it was the best prices around (35-40 cents cheaper per gallon on gas).
I wish we could rated this home more than 5 stars. It will be a pleasant memory of your Kauai vacation.

ESCAPE TO THE ISLANDS

  • 5 out of 5
We sought a warm and friendly, sun-soaked experience off the beaten-path in Kauai and found it. Days were filled with sand and surf, and our home base was the most welcoming and comfortable cottage in a quiet, private setting. All of us were extremely happy with the Plantation Managers Cottage and all of it's amenities. Kekeha is small town (perfect for us), the cottage was immaculately clean and move-in ready (perfect for us), the details throughout the cottage were beautiful and so very comfortable (perfect for us). This cottage had it all and made our 6-night stay so easy and wonderful. Can't say enough about the top-notch quality of this place. We highly recommend it and will come again for our next wintertime escape to Kauai.

THE PERFECT HOLIDAY!

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed here for a week over Christmas and it was perfect! Such a charming cottage with beautiful furnishings, luxurious linens, wonderful beds, big beautiful windows that open for the breeze to blow through, very well stocked lovely kitchen and everything was immaculately clean. The yard is so private and lush and the outdoor shower was such a treat...my daughter and I had so much fun looking for gecko's! We loved sunny Kekaha...it was so close to Waimea Canyon where we went on a couple of beautiful hikes and Polihale State Park was stunningly beautiful...we also loved Salt Pond Beach. We rented a Jeep which was great for driving on the beach at Salt Pond and Polihale...very fun! Some of our favorite eating spots were Paco's Tacos in Hanapepe, Grove Cafe in Waimea and Brennecke's Beach Broiler in Poipu. Pam was so nice to deal with and really does want everyone to have the best experience...it's so obvious in the attention to detail...even the boogie boards, beach chairs and coolers were in excellent condition. Love this place so much...will definitely stay here again. Thanks for sharing with us Pam!
