Overview

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday home in Asbury Park - Family Beach House Retreat

5 BR / 2 BA Family Beach House. Sleeps 12.

Located in the most desirable area of Asbury Park and a short distance to the boardwalk, ocean, downtown shops, concert venues, and all that Asbury Park has to offer.

This beautiful and exquisite home offers a private, relaxing and warm atmosphere perfect for an extended family get-away vacation or long term home away from home – you won’t find a better house with unique character and charm that is this large and near the beach!!! The front wrap around porch offers spectacular all-day sun, perfect for lazy afternoons and ideal for sharing a glass of wine with friends and family at sunset. Landscaped back yard with private deck, perfect for a quaint backyard wedding or event along with a dining table that can seat over 8 people and a tank-less Weber gas grill ready for a grill master.

The interior design presents an eclectic mix of modern and old from the pages of Elle Décor or Dwell. The rooms are all generously oversized with comfy furniture providing ample seating for group conversations, dinner parties, family game night – or all of the above! And a chef’s kitchen and pantry that has all of the appliances and tools you will need down to the Viking range and stand mixer. Get ready to showcase your culinary skills!

There is a modern, full bathroom with shower and tub on the second floor along with three beautifully decorated bedrooms (two with king sized beds, one with a queen size bed). Two additional bedrooms are on the third floor, which include two twin beds and another queen size bed. A second full bathroom is located on the main floor. The home is fully equipped with fluffy linens and towels – including matching beach towels for everyone’s use.

Amenities include: washer and dryer, central air in all bedrooms, gas grill, formal dining room seating ten, luxurious linens, towels, a chef’s kitchen and quirky personality that come along with an historic charm – like the infamous “door to nowhere.”

Local favorites that are close by are Porta (converted warehouse pizza and cocktail venue), Taka (newly built upscale sushi restaurant and bar) and Frank’s Deli (perfect for subs to take to the beach). But you can’t miss Sunset Landing Luncheonette - a surfer’s shack one block away from the house for yummy breakfast and lunch!

About Richard Kahoe

NYC-based architect & designer. Live between Manhattan and Asbury Park and rent out my family's house when we are not using it. I am always availible by cell or within a 45-minute drive in the event any issues arise during a stay.

Richard Kahoe purchased this house in 2013

Why Richard Kahoe chose Asbury Park

This is not a rental property - this is my family's beach house. The house is full of all of the amenities and quality that you would expect from staying in a good friends house - not a typical weekly rental property.

What makes this house unique

House is on a quiet, street in a safe family-oriented neighborhood. Great neighbors and community. Walking and biking distance to the beach, boardwalk and town w/ restaurants and nigh-life. Easy street parking and 2-car driveway w/ garage.

This house is such a good find, situated in a quaint Asbury Park neighborhood. I especially enjoyed the interior...a minimal/modern take on contemporary, with nautical accents, you can see the designer's eye throughout. Very unique, appreciated by all ages of my family. Clean & spacious, with good energy flow. Zero complaints. Richard was a pleasure to deal with. Awesome house + awesome communication = my 110% recommendation.

Wonderful house for a group or large family

  • 4 of 5

We had an excellent time in this beautifully appointed home. We had several small children from whom we had to hide some of the more delicate display items. That said, it is still family friendly, warm and welcoming. The porches are great for hanging out, the kitchen and grill are great for big meal preparation. The showers are lovely and the beds were superbly comfortable. There were a few things we needed to communicate with the owner about during our stay but he was highly responsive and took care of the issues immediately. The only reason why we didn't give 5 stars is because the AC stopped working as another reviewer stated and the back porch was being built while we were there so we couldn't use the yard because it had work equipment around. Hopefully both of those things have since been resolved making this the perfect getaway spot.

Great Week

  • 5 of 5

A Wonderful Vacation

We just spent a wonderful week at this lovely restored home in the Northwest section of Asbury Park The house is located on a quiet tree lined street with similar large homes. The inside of the home is beautifully decorated yet made us feel right at home. The house was well stocked with just about anything you could think of. We cooked several meals on the large Viking stove. There was also a gas grill on the backyard deck which came in handy. We spent several late afternoons watching the sun set on the beautiful wrap around front porch. The beds were extremely comfortable with soft blankets and linens. The 5th Avenue beach is about a 15 to 20 minute walk and about a 3 minute drive by car. The owner, Richard, was extremely responsive to our initial inquiry and to any of our needs during our stay. It is quite obvious that he takes a lot of pride in his home and wants his guests to have a great experience. We had a fantastic week. Thank you Richard for sharing your home with us.

Personality!

  • 4 of 5

This house has a lot of personality! You can tell the owner has put a lot of work into restoring this beautiful historic house, but there are still a lot of quirks that come along with an old house, so if you are picky about that sort of thing, I would recommend a different property. My brother and I, along with our spouses loved the location and the house with all it's quirks like the "door to nowhere," figuring out the old fashioned on-and-off switches. My parents had reservations and definitely prefer something newer and more standard. Some reviewers recommended this property for "people with disabilities" but heads up- this is not handicapped accessible. Downtown!!! Websites about Asbury Park really need to advertise the downtown area more. What a pleasant surprise. Make sure you save at least a day to browse the eclectic stores, yummy and fun restaurants and bookstore (each of us left with something!) The downtown beaches are a bit far away for the average walker, so I did not recommend the house for tourists without a car.

There is no Lanai / Gazebo or Balcony that we could find. The garage is a building on the property but it cannot be used as a garage. The bed was super comfortable and the AC worked great- quiet neighborhood, we slept great. I love the history of Asbury Park and that it is experiencing a Renaissance. The energy of the town is vibrant-- with diversity like a real community, not just another beach-town. The third floor- one room with two twins and the other room with a queen and a giant poofy bean bag thing (held our 6 and 7 year old) was perfect for the kid cousins!

I loved the decour-- everywhere you look there is another artistic touch. The few "beach" themed items were beautifully understated and classy (no seashell creatures or ceramic lighthouse collections which I really appreciated.) Towels were big and fluffy and linens were so so so soft. Made a real difference to have them provided. Another great summer beach vacation! One we won't soon forget!

Perfect Family Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

My friends and family had a wonderful week at the house and thoroughly enjoyed cooking and relaxing. It is not too far from the beach and in the lovely Northwest section of Asbury Park. Richard was very attentive. The a/c stopped working and he had a technician out within an hour on a Saturday night. It worked perfectly afterward. We will definitely be back again.

Fun relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

Great house blocks from the beach and great for families. Lots of space to cook great meals, relax and watch movies or sit on the large front porch and enjoy a glass of wine. We had a few glitches the first day but the owner jumped through hoops to make sure we had a wonderful vacation.

A great place to enjoy Asbury Park!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time staying in this beautiful, enormous house in Asbury Park! All the bedrooms were clean and well-lit, and the common areas were well-furnished and very large. The kitchen has every appliance you'd possibly need, down to a stand mixer! The house is in a lovely, safe residential neighborhood, positioned about a 10 minute walk away from the beach and boardwalk. Richard was a consummate host and provided us with plenty of references, tips and information regarding the house and nearby activities. We highly recommended this beach house!
