We custom built Anahola Home in 2006 to provide an uninterrupted sense of calm, peace and luxury for our family and our friends.
Anahola Home sleeps six (can accommodate eight), but its generous 4,000 square feet of space, expansive yard and an endless beach beckoning with its rhythmic waves, just steps away from the front door, affords an escape from the noisy, crowded, humdrum world you left behind.
Sloping roofs, Hawaiian/Asian architecture, stucco exterior and ocean views from the living area, dining and front lanai, along with delightful gardens and lawns on its ½-acre setting make it unique among rental homes. It includes a master bedroom with king size bed and private bath, Jacuzzi, two guest bedrooms with queen & full size beds, ceiling fans, 3 1/2 baths, media room, tea room, sitting room, home office loft and a central deck.
Hardwood flooring, an incredible fully-equipped, custom gourmet kitchen with Sub Zero refrigerator and Travertine flooring, air conditioning and many more extras complement your paradise experience at Anahola Home.
While not enjoying the scenery and cool ocean breezes of Kauai, Mary is immersed in her art projects and the couple’s daughters, Jorgie, age 10, and Demi, age 5. While back home in Illinois, George practices law and shovels snow. The couple enjoys their three dogs, Alfie (an 80 pound Briard), Lucy (another big Briard), and Willie (a 10 pound mutt who bosses the bigger dogs around). Some of their other activities include, biking, reading, running, traveling with their daughters, and experimenting with new restaurants.
George Hampilos purchased this house in 2006
The inspiration for building this luxurious Hawaiian-style home on the island of Kauai lies with its owners, George and Mary. After traveling throughout various parts of the world, the owners concluded that Kauai offers everything they cherished most: beautiful scenery, excellent food, great weather, and an abundance of outdoor activities. Building a home in Kauai seemed like the right thing to do. And the fact that Mary and George live in the Midwest hardly deterred this visionary couple to build this house thousands of miles away. With Mary’s artistic flair, and George’s thirst for the next big challenge, both were able to build their dream get away.
The owners sought to combine and balance the building and landscaping architecture in the Hawaiian tradition, with the modern simplicity seen in contemporary homes. The couple rounded out the home with the appropriate blend of antique Asian and Hawaiian furnishings, along with state of the art appliances.
My family was absolutely thrilled with this home and I would recommend this to anyone looking for an authentic experience in Kauai but also looking for extremely comfortable lodging. The location is perfect as it's almost the halfway point to the Napali coast line from the airport, close to Hanalei bay and Kapa'a. The home is right next to a secluded beach and the area is so quiet and peaceful. The floor plan of this home is excellent as each bedroom feels like you are staying in your own suite. The kitchen is world class and there is so much open space for enjoying time with family and friends including an incredible lanai. This home is a no brainer and I would be hard pressed to stay in a hotel with family / friends vs. paying less to have much more. I will never forget this amazing home and the experience my family had there. Staying here really complimented an amazing week on one of the most beautiful places in the world. Awesome place, awesome experience and the owner / caretaker did a really great job insuring our needs were taken care of. 5 star experience and don't let this home pass by if its available.
We have had the absolute pleasure of staying in George and Mary's property on 4 or 5 occasions. We were married in Kauai and have been back 7 more times. After discovering George and Mary's home we haven't stayed anywhere else. The house is large, stunning, comfortable, serene and exactly what we need when we want to get away from "it all." One of the most appealing aspects of the house is that it is very quiet. The house is located on a dead end road, so other than locals, a few other renters or the occasional tourist driving by to check things out, the area is quiet. If you lead busy lives, as we do, we so appreciate the ability to truly relax, and this is what we are able to do at this property. I could rave on lyrically, however I am sure you want to go and book your vacation - so book this property, you won't regret it.
The Garden Island is enhanced by this lovely home in Anahola, Kauai, Hawaii. The minute you arrive at the airport in Lihue, you will realize the glorious beauty of the island. The short trip to this home is filled with gorgeous scenery. Mountains are on your left, and the ocean is on your right. Arriving at the home, the scent of plumeria welcomes you as you enter the drive. The house, from all aspects, is unique and welcoming. Space is abundant, allowing privacy as well as a “gathering room.” The kitchen provides all the amenities of home. The patios are fantastic in that they are on each side of the house. On one side, you can sit in the shade, view the beautiful plants and hear the roaring of the ocean waves. On the other side, the deck provides a grill, outdoor seating, and another view of the fruit trees, the waving palms, and gorgeous flowering plants. I must not forget to mention the night sky viewed from this deck. That is another sight that you will long remember. (A telescope is in the home for your enjoyment.) The neighborhood provides the visitor a feeling of security plus neighbors who are so very warm and friendly. Gorgeous beaches are a walk away with very few visitors to distract from the beauty that a beach offers. You may come upon a beached monk seal and the volunteers who are there to protect it. Chances are you will not want to leave the home and the surroundings, but this island provides you so much beauty that exploring it will be imperative. If you desire a peace-filled, beauty abounding vacation, this home is for you.
My family and I had a great time at this charming and unique vacation spot! Of all the vacations I have been on, I have to say that I felt most relaxed and comfortable here. The house was in pristine condition, clean, great air conditioning and had all the amenities anyone could ever need or want. George and Mary really made you feel like you were at home and were very gracious. One of the highlights of my vacation was lying down on the nearby beach, which had the most beautiful view of the Kauai coastline and ocean. I am so glad we came across this house and would love to go back again!
Many a fond memories reside here in this beautiful home. I would recommend it to anyone with the desire to find quietude and mellow contentment while on vacation. The home is just off the beaten path, located by way of a gravely road where it seems more chickens than cars traverse. Fruit trees abound, and expansive tropical gardens lie nearby. Harmless little geckos will greet you when you arrive. The outdoor shower is a must.
We needed to get away with the boys for a couple of weeks during their Christmas break. This home was it! Quiet and secluded yet all amenities and fun were nearby. Fresh air, beautiful sunlight and crystal water beaches a short walk away. Would definitely return.
