About Andrew and Kate Thorley
We are husband and wife, Andrew and Kate, from England. We both grew up in the north, worked, travelled and met in the UK military. We married 20 years ago and spent 10 years with serious jobs in London, then decided to change our lives. We bought a chalet in France and hosted a full-service ski lodge for 6 years. In 2008 we were looking for our next great adventure and came to Dominica. We now split our time between Toucari and our family back in UK.

Why Andrew and Kate Thorley chose Les Saintes
We came to Dominica for 6 weeks in 2008 and toured every corner of the island. Toucari is where we decided to look for property. The descriptions we use on this website say it all. So with a place to live for ourselves, we set to building the prettiest rental cottage the island has ever had. Designed to look and feel traditionally Caribbean, but with the size and conveniences of a modern home. This is our labour of love. We have lived in the cottage for a few months ourselves and cannot think of another place in the world we would rather be.
What makes this cottage unique
Choices of accommodation in Dominica are limited. Some are beautiful but highly priced lodges, some are tired, budget-priced cottages. Many are concrete built villas the like you would see in Florida or southern France.
Coconut Cottage is one of a few that try to break this pattern. Come to a genuine Caribbean village, live for a while in a timber house surrounded by nature. Just sit on the verandah in the fresh Caribbean breeze and watch the sailboats and cruise ships pass by, the fishermen struggle with their catch, the hummingbirds in the tree right by you, the magnificent frigate bird soaring overhead or the zandoli tree lizard that is perched looking straight back at you.
Guestbook comments from the owner
I don't think airbnb's 5 stars are really enough for Andrew and Kate's cottage. The view is enough for 5 stars on its own. (I can't count the number of rainbows over the ocean we got to see.) And everything - from the on-demand hot water to the US and UK outlets was new and well thought out. Though exciting to get to the first time, the location is great: green and peaceful, while still convenient to Portsmouth's shops and restaurants. (The hosts have written a very handy guide to these.) We look forward to our next trip to this friendly, beautiful island and, hopefully, this house!
