Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Berkhamsted - The Stables
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2
The Stables sits in the curtilage of the largest medieval barn (Grade 2* listed) in the South of England. It has stunning views of the Great Barn and the surrounding countryside, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Located 500ms from Berkhamsted castle where almost 1000 years ago, William the Conqueror received the surrender from the English knights, it is walking distance from the historic town center, where the novelist Graham Greene also went to school. This thriving market town (markets are Wednesdays and Saturdays) has a selection of chic eateries and cafes, where you can easily while away the hours and, with three good supermarkets, you really are spoilt for choice. Berkhamsted has a wealth of antique and 'brocante' style shops and, of course, a 'must-visit' is the nation's well-loved treasure, the art-deco 'Rex' cinema - not to be missed!
The Stables sits in a privileged position on the edge of the town, rubbing shoulders with beautiful countryside and the ancient Ashridge Forest which can be discovered on foot or by bike. It takes only 7 mins to walk to the train station, and you are in the center of London in just over half an hour. Heathrow airport is 45 mins by car and Oxford, Bicester, Waddesdon, St Albans and Cambridge are all within easy reach for cultural visits and shopping.
The Stables has real oak floorboards throughout with underfloor heating for warmth during the Winter. Fully fitted kitchen with oven, Illy coffee machine, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher and fully tiled bathroom with shower over the bath. We have equipped the cottage as we like to find somewhere ourselves, thus quality white bed linen for the double bed, and luxurious thick towels for the bathroom. The dining/sitting room is furnished with a vintage feel, housing finds from antique fairs both English and French. There is a TV and DVD player, with a selection of DVDs and books for your enjoyment.
Altogether a 'home from home'. Teabags and fresh milk in the fridge are part of the welcome and do feel free to contact us before your arrival if there is anything else you would like us to provide in advance.
If you are out for the day and would like us to do some food shopping for you, that can be organised for a token charge. Alternatively, order on-line with www.ocado.com and get your food delivered to the door. Also, a local company promoting 'meals to cook yourself', called 'The Naked Radish', would be happy to deliver the fresh, local produce to your door.

About Sarah Groves
We are a family with three almost teenage children and we love a mixture of rural and urban living which is why we chose to live here.
Sarah Groves purchased this cottage in 2013
Why Sarah Groves chose Berkhamsted
Having just returned from living in France for 3 years, we were lucky enough to be able to move into the Great Barn upon our return. We are very excited to be able to rent The Stables to discerning tourists interested in visiting this beautiful part of England, which is so conveniently located close to London.
What makes this cottage unique
It was the perfect combination, in our mind, of being located right beside the open countryside and yet being able to walk to school, the town and the station, that appealed to all of us straight away.
