|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
The house has a private master bedroom & bath en suite on upper level with balcony overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea & Pitons. The main floor has 2 bedrooms both en suite with one having queen sized bed and the other having a single bed.
The villa has many communal areas including a large living room & dining room that open up to the outdoors and large deck all with amazing views of the Caribbean Sea and the Pitons. There is a kitchen with attached small sitting area that has cable TV. There are other sitting areas including a private covered deck in the garden and a nice bathing deck by the pool as well as a outdoor cooking area. WIFI is available at Hermitage Jewel.
Private, very romantic, quite, spectacular view, fabulous house, near two very good restaurants and bars, with entertainment. near beach, near town, cooler temps because of high elevation. We also offer a local complimentary breakfast, of fresh seasonal fruit, local coffee, tea, local fresh bread, jam/jelly, butter, and cheese, all prepared and served by Glenda, your housekeeper, 6 days a week. Spring water is furnished for drinking.
I honestly have not one negative thing to say about our time spent at the Hermitage Jewel. My husband and I went for our belated honeymoon and never wanted to leave. The house is completely open and there is a continuous breeze throughout the house all day. Dian, Neverweary, and Glenda made us feel at home the entire duration of our stay, and the people of St. Lucia are the friendliest I've ever met. We had plans to do excursions almost every day, but found ourselves spending much of our time just relaxing by the pool at the house. St. Lucia will make you a morning person! The sun rises early, and the views are so breathtaking, you will want to get out of bed just to look at the pitons while you sip on your freshly ground coffee that is kept in the house. Dian told us that most couples close the bedroom doors at night, but there is no reason to! We listened to the ocean, frogs, and rain at night which put us right to sleep. With the doors open, the first thing you see when you wake up is the breathtaking view of the Petit Piton. Don't waste time sleeping in! If you are curious about the beaches, Anse Chastanet is FAR better than Sugar Beach. The people on the beach at Anse Chastanet are much more laidback, while Sugar Beach has a little more uptight crowd. Go to Anse Chastanet for snorkeling; don't bother snorkeling anywhere else. The first beach has the best snorkeling. Go to the bar to see Pamela! If you plan on staying there for the day and don't want to lug a bunch of stuff around, get the day pass. For about $125 per person, you can drink all day and eat lunch, and it gets you access to the beach amenities (snorkeling, kayaking, wind surfing, etc.).You also get a cabana for two and you are waited on just as if you were a guest. If you plan on going to the volcano and sulphur springs, it is literally about half a mile from the villa. The operating hours are 8-5, but they don't actually close anything. If you go outside of "business hours", you can just walk right in without paying a dime. The odor is a bit intense, but it's something amazing that everyone should experience, especially being within walking distance. If you are questioning whether you would like the Hermitage Jewel, don't. The pictures don't do it justice, and it is an amazing home right in the rainforest. It was everything we expected, only better. We will be returning more than once to the beautiful island of St. Lucia, and we will stay in the Hermitage Jewel every time!
We chose the Hermitage Jewel as the location where we would celebrate our 20th anniversary with our best friends and do a private small vow renewal. The trip was everything we imagined it would be and so much more! The pictures do not do this place justice!
Things we did and would recommend:
• Buffet lunch at Ladera on Sundays (a great, no-pressure introduction to local food)
• Jungle Biking with Bike St. Lucia at Anse Mamin via boat shuttle from Anse Chastanet (exhausting, but fun)
• Lunch at Fedo’s & Dinner at Orlando’s (make reservations in advance for O’s)
• Tree to Bar experience at Hotel Chocolat (better with a small to medium group)
• Walking to and from Sulphur Springs Mud Baths (return trip is rough, but doable our group of 40-year-olds)
• Jalousie/Sugar Beach snorkeling (amazing!)
• Anse La Raye Fish Fry
Things we’d do differently next time:
1. I wouldn’t hesitate, as I did, to ask Dian questions about the area in advance of our trip. She is a wealth of information, and we will definitely be in touch sooner next time.
2. We’d bring a copy of the rental agreement in our carry-ons. The people we were with didn’t need it, but our customs agent asked to see it.
3. We’d change out US dollars for EC directly after customs. We sort of caused a spectacle at the grocery store when we paid with US dollars. Plus, things are generally less expensive when you pay with EC.
4. We’d have made a list of stuff to look for at the grocery store. Our lack of preparation meant we were visiting the market every few days in Soufriere, and it’s not nearly as well-stocked as the market in Vieux Fort.
5. We’d bring bikes or plan for a driver more often than just 3 days.
6. We’d eat at Fedo’s more often for lunch and plan for more dinners at the house because it was more economical than eating out at the resorts.
7. We’d plan to spend most nights in. We were surprised by how much our internal clocks were affected by sunset and sunrise. Most nights, we were in bed by 8:30 p.m. Most mornings, we were up with the sun.
8. We’d hit Sugar Beach sooner. The snorkeling was awesome and lunch was great. We would’ve spent more time there. Plus, there is a local who paddles in (he says everyday) on a kayak with some amazing fruits and vegetables – much better than you’ll find in the stores.
We wish to thank the owners for sharing their “Jewel” with us and Dian and her crew for making it a week to remember forever! We will absolutely be back!
We had the most amazing week staying at the Hermitage Jewel! This was my husbands and I's first vacation away from our 2 little boys, and it was the most relaxed I have been in a long time! Never Weary met us at the airport, we made a quick stop at the grocery store (don't buy much/any fruit, Dian has lots at the house!), and were on our way to the villa. As you pull up the driveway you are greeted with the most breathtaking views of the Piton's and ocean. Every single day we were still mesmerized with just how beautiful our surroundings were. Dian met us with a small snack and drinks, and immediately our cares melted away. Dian gave us a cell phone upon arrival, and was a wealth of knowledge all week!
The villa has just about everything you could need for your time in paradise! We spent two days just at the house, and never once did we feel like we needed to leave for things to do. There are plenty of things to do within walking distance or a short drive, however if you just want to lay low, there is the house to do it at. It is incredibly private, and not once did we run into anyone else around the property. Glenda came almost every morning and made us delicious breakfasts! Never Weary was our driver for a handful of days, and was always on time and provided us with so much information about the island. We also went and listened to his band play at Ladera and would highly recommend going! One night we had Damiana come and make had us dinner, and our only regret of the trip is that we didn't have her come more often! Her food was wonderful!
A quick run down of things we did on or trip:
-Hiked the Pitons (so glad we started by 7:30am. It is no walk in the park, but definitely doable if you are active)
-Walked to the sulphur springs for a mud bath
-Had an old bath at the mineral springs and walked around the botanical gardens
-Boat tour with Captain Dan up to Marigot Bay and went snorkeling off the boat
-Went to Sugar Beach and Anse Chastenet Beach
-Massage from Mora on the deck
Restaurants we ate at:
-Ladera (just went to for appetizers, drinks, and music but very good!)
-Orlando's (great cuisine with the most Caribbean flare of any restaurant we ate at)
-Boucan (walked there from the house, had delicious food. They also have a drink menu about a mile long)
-Jade Mountain (This was our favorite of the whole trip! Make sure you get there in time to watch a sunset from the rooftop)
-The Great Room at Sugar Beach (Very fine dining, but AMAZING food!)
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Hermitage Jewel and there could not have been a better choice. Dian, Neverweary, Glenda, and Damiana were just simply the best. Glenda and Damiana made the best breakfasts - fresh fruit, different fresh juice each day, omelettes, and would also bring us fresh bread from the bakery!
Neverweary was just awesome to have as our driver, guide, and now a friend! He knows everyone, knowledgeable of the area, and just really made this a special experience...always available and always punctual. Thank you again Neverweary. Also had a chance to hear him and his band play at Ladera...AWESOME...must go check him out Wed or Sat!
Dian was GREAT...always available and knowledgeable of the island as well. She made sure we were taken care wherever we wanted to go for dinner, gave us great tips, and would even bring us fresh fruit from her own garden!
The views are spectacular and just a wonderful way to experience the island...peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful. The house is close to beaches and activities such as fishing and ATVing. There is even snorkeling gear for your use at the house.
Thanks again to the team and we will see you again!
Had an amazing week at Hermitage Jewel, a beautiful villa with mesmerizing views of the pitons. Even at week's end, the views were still breathtaking. While the villa itself is big enough, the total property is enormous, and includes a swimming pool, a meditation deck, several other decks, and a covered, outside dining/living room. The master bed is extremely comfortable and the serene symphony of frogs, crickets and birds will put you to sleep in minutes. The kitchen is small but well designed and easy to work in. The pantry comes well stocked and fresh, local bread is delivered every morning! I only wish the kitchen had better lighting for cooking after dark. This is not a luxe property. There are plenty of places offering that on St Lucia with prices to match. It is the most relaxing place I've stayed anywhere in the Caribbean. The entire property is expertly maintained by a warm and easy-going staff. Dian, the property manager, was always available by cell (you are given one during your stay). She was incredibly helpful before and during the trip. She helped line up diving, transportation and groceries (including a waiting warm lunch) , so when I arrived, the vacation got started. She's lived on St. Lucia over 40 years and had great suggestions and ideas, and is a great conversationist. The man who maintains the property, Never Weary/Kervin, may also be available as a driver/guide. He's a fascinating person to talk with and can show you little known things not to miss. Great thanks also to Damiana, who was housekeeper for my stay and knows how to make a delicious omelette, and Eddy, who took fantastic care of the pool. Mosquitos? Got a few bites, but because the villa property has breezes running through it almost always, mosquitos mainly stay away. In fact, this villa is really its own attraction. With its incomparable views, relaxing vibe, and perfect tranquility, you might find yourself happy just hanging out and doing "nothing". A perfect vacation.
Our family of four was met by the most amazing person, Kervin, at the airport who took care of our every need after several weather and airplane delays on our trip to St Lucia. Upon arrival at the Hermitage Jewel, our souls seemed to immediately transformed, from the hustle, bustle of everyday life to a life of calm, sereneness cultivated by the amazing views of the beautiful villa overlooking the ocean and the Pitons.
Dian, the property manager, was also in-tune to making our arrival wonderful with the local made vegetarian pizza and drinks that hit the spot after a long day.
Then, Dian explained all the information she had gathered about the adventures that awaited us; she had been diligently working on making our trip wonderful by setting up connections for our ATV Tour through the rainforest, scuba diving, dining specialties of the island, site seeing and of course, the tour of our home for the next week in St Lucia. We were able to be part of the island and enjoy its culture since she had also set up the car rental for us that was delivered the next morning. We love adventure, and driving the island proved to be high on the list. We would have missed so much without the convenience of being able to get around to the various beaches, restaurants, and other sites without the 4 door Suzuki that Dian negotiated a great price for our trip.
Hermitage Jewel is a lovely villa, in the most beautiful setting and away from the regular tourist areas. We love to get away and enjoy time with our two older teens, and this was the perfect place. Massages outside in the morning, swimming in the pool, and card games and board games at night. Another wonderful feature of this villa, is Glenda who is there in the mornings to cook a wonderful breakfast of fruits/cheese/and homemade fruit juices; and if you buy her the ingredients for pancakes, they are amazing. She also will make eggs or whatever else you have purchased from the store, and the place will be spotless due to her immaculate cleaning each day.
Eddie takes care of the pool every morning, and he is a joy to be around.
Recommendation: BRING FRESH "Crisp" dollars, the grocery store and restaurants will not take any US money with a small crease, fold, corner bent, etc. (10's and 20's are preferred, of course no 100's) We have been to many islands, and this is the first that made such a "big" deal on perfect new money because their banks will not accept them.
The Hermitage Jewel villa is located within the property of the UNESCO World Heritage Site recognizing the beauty of the world famous mountains, Gros & Petit Piton. The house has a stunning view from the front of miles of Caribbean Sea and Piton mountains and behind the villa is a view of the tropical rain forest. The property is lush with flowers and fruit trees and there are lots of hummingbirds feasting on the abundance of floral nectar. Sunrise can bring a luminous rainbow and sunsets are brilliant and worthy of an evening toast.
It is a perfect destination for newly weds.
There are some of the finest resorts, restaurants and spas on the island within close proximity.
