Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday cabin in Crosslake - 1930's ALL original LOG Cabin
Fantastic Privacy, Views And Charm From This Amazing Piece Of History
Sleeps approx 12 in 4 bedrooms with 3 & 1/2 bath and includes an additional sleeping loft for 3 well behaved kids or young adults! My family has owned this for nearly 50 years. Of the several hundred homes on the popular Whitefish Chain, there is only one other cabin that is in such original, untouched condition! Even the furniture is from the 1920s and 1930s. This cabin was the only cabin to be featured three times in the prestigious Crosslake Historical Log Home Tour since the tour began 20 years ago. Antiques, log chandeliers and bear rugs hanging from loft railings add to its amazing wonder. Nooks, crannies and cozy corners abound! Huge screened in porch (with antique birch bark canoe perched over the beams) ,... The porch comfortably seats 12 for dining, snoozing or schmoozing! And, a 12 ft x 60 ft long, huge deck runs the entire length of the cabin and also seats another 12 - 14 around a log table and gas fire pit. Huge sweeping lawn down to the lake and almost panoramic views from the bluff overlooking the islands across the water. State land adjoins this property so it feels as if you are miles from civilization but the town of Crosslake is only 4 miles away and you can walk 3/4 to the charming local pub! About Nancy Thayer Haggerty
Grew up in St. Paul; my husband was born and raised on the east coast. We have retired here to the family cabin where I have been spending summers all my life. My folks bought this cabin almost 50 years ago! We spend winters in Palm Springs, play lots of golf and travel. We are blessed. I have no children so we are truely happy to be able to share this wondrous cabin with other families. This past summer of '14 was the first time we hep ave EVER rented it and we were so delighted with ALL the families who stayed here! Wonderful, wonderful families who loved it and took such good care of it!...most are planning a return visit in summer of 2015 so I sincerely believe we will book up early.
Nancy Thayer Haggerty purchased this cabin in 1965
Why Nancy Thayer Haggerty chose Crosslake
This cabin has become a landmark on the chain as it is one of the few remaining original, untouched log cabins. Most everyone knows of it and many boats slow down in admiration as they pass by! It has been featured three different years at the Crosslake Historical Log Home Tour which was begun by my mother and our current neighbors who also have a wonderfully special home. 90% of the furnishings and decor are original and of the 1880 - 1930 antique period (minus, of corse, modern neccessities ie; beds, appliances and TVs). A wunderous step back in time! We think you'll just marvel as you will feel like you are back in the 1920s / 30s of 'Up North'...but still, the cabin is very comfortable and liveable .
What makes this cabin unique
This cabin and the grounds are unusually peaceful, private and serene. My husband and I were married on the lawn overlooking the lake 25 years ago. Could be used for a family wedding !? An amazing deck runs the entire length of the cabin and has French doors leading to it from almost every room in the cabin. The huge screened in porch makes for great entertaining and just hanging , talking eating, laughing and drinking late into the night!
