Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Bantry Bay - Toormore House
Personal, warm atmosphere, secluded sandbeach, fireplaces, library, gardens

The house is in the most south-western part of Ireland, close to the village of Schull. It is right in front of the Atlantic Ocean with views of the world famous Fastnet Lighthouse, as well as a 4000 year old stone tomb. Across the house, there is an intimate sand beach. The house is cosy and comfortable. It has two floors and features open fires, handmade oak and pine furniture, black natural stone slabs and Persian carpets. Under floor heating, bathrooms en suite, reading room, open fire sitting area and conservatory offer space and comfort to relax. The house has several rooms but is ideal for two people. There is a living room with wooden beam ceiling, open fire and a natural stonewall, a meditation room with a massage bed, a master bedroom with en-suite bath and a guest bedroom. The large handmade pitch-pine kitchen, glass conservatories, fireplaces and reading area are also charming. You have ocean view from every room. CD, DVD and book library are available. No kids.

Private and authentic Atmosphere: This house has a very special personal and charming touch and atmosphere. The owner is using it himself on a regular basis and it is very different from a typical holiday rental cottage. Everything is real and authentic. You will find handmade furniture, Persian Carpets, very expensive HiFi system, huge library with books in several languages, art, several hundred CDs and DVDs. The owner is traveling quite a bit and the house is full with little things from all over the word. There is a little video a guest made, you can watch it at youtube if you search for 'Toormore'

Remote and quiet: The house is very remote. In front of the house is a garden with palm trees, fuchsia, escalinoa. The Gulfstream creates a very mild climate and we never have snow. This allows a very sumptuous vegatation. Every room has ocean view and you can see the famous 'Fastnet' lighthouse. A sheltered intimate sand beach is in front of the house. From the guestroom and the meditation room upstairs you can see the 'Standing Stones'. At night, you only hear the waves of the ocean. And sometimes a fox. In fact, the fox as well as Likker and Honey, our cats, might even pay you a visit.

How it all began: Over 15 years ago the owner, an international working artist came to work on an art project in the Southwest of Ireland. Finding peace and serenity and a refined lifestyle which can only be found in a few places on earth, he built his dream house in a very special location. The house is on an elevated piece of land and overlooks the Atlantic, a stone tomb und the bay. Quite an unique combination of endless blue, space and a feeling of longing to be far away --created by the ocean-- yet at the same time the feeling of being at home, protected and sheltered --created by the bay and the cliffs-- had a very strong impact on him and he fell in love immediately. In Toormore he found a place where one can still discover secret places, be enchanted by the grace of thousand year old forests and explore ancient castles and stone circles. Here where people still take the time to chat, it is possible to withdraw from the hectic modern life and to relax, be creative or even find oneself.

The house is located at the sunny South West Coast of Ireland, the most demanded area of Ireland. Cork airport is 50 miles away; the next little town (Schull) is 4 miles away. It is surrounded by unspoiled nature on several acres of own coastal land, right on the Atlantic Ocean. All you see from the windows is the sky and the blue of the water and the Fastnet Lighthouse. Because of the Gulf stream, the climate is mild (palm trees in front of the house) and most of the year is perfect for being outside. Because this area is highly sought after by tourists (a sailor’s paradise) the coastal towns are bursting with charming pubs, first class restaurants, little shops and activities. In short: If you want to withdraw and nourish your soul, be surrounded by cosy fireplaces, art, paintings, books, music and movies, handmade furniture, Persian carpets, gardens with palm trees, smell and feel nothing but the Ocean without seeing other houses around you, this is the perfect place.

Golf: There are several golf courses. Bantry and Skibbereen are closest to the house. Kinsale Golf Club is an 1.5 hour drive away.

Beautiful Escape on Ireland's Southwest Coast

Beautiful Escape on Ireland's Southwest Coast
5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 13 May 2013 Date of Stay: April 2013
We stayed here in late April and discovered that Toormore House is something special indeed. It's a home located in an area so stunningly beautiful and off the beaten path that it seems hard to believe the seascape you can view from the windows is real. The house lets you enjoy the peace and quiet of a charming rustic home, yet also manages to offer every modern comfort -- television, stereo and wifi. Many travelers might also appreciate the fully functioning washer and dryer, which should allow you to pack a little lighter. This home is a truly beautiful property, and I can only imagine what a labor of love it must have been the owner to build.

If you're looking for a place to get away from it all and take in the spectacular sights of Southwest Ireland's landscapes, this home makes an ideal base. The nearby town of Schull is small but offers essentials such as groceries and a few restaurants.

The home's caretaker Denise and her husband Chris are also great -- very lovely people who took the time to share some tips about the area with us. Many thanks for the hospitality and for providing such a lovely place to spend a week.

A Slice of Heaven

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 10 December 2012 Date of Stay: November 2012
This was our fist time to Ireland, so we spent quite a bit of time researching places to stay. We are so thankful we stumbled upon this magnificent house on HomeAway. As soon as we read the detailed description and the many, many positive reviews, we knew our search was over. We had finally found our perfect home away from home. It is a living, breathing home that overflows with character, style, and spirit. As soon as we walked in the door, we felt cozy and comfortable. So comfortable, in fact, we kept exclaiming over and over again that we never wanted to leave!

This home is even more spectacular than described. Both inside and out, it is truly one-of-a-kind and an architectural gem. The exterior stonework and design are downright impressive, and within, each room has its own personality and is very well-appointed. The picturesque views of the ocean from the property are stunning! The location is ideal for a secluded, romantic getaway. It is also the perfect base for day trips throughout County Cork and the surrounding counties.

The owner and the caretaker were extremely pleasant, friendly, and accommodating during our stay. Their customer service from beginning to end was top-notch. They were full of excellent suggestions as to what to do in and around the area. We enjoyed visiting the seaside villages, the mountains, and the local pubs nearby. Spending quiet nights in front of the fireplace was one of our favorite ways to relax.

We would highly recommend this home to others. As our title states, this home is like heaven on Earth! We are already talking about a return visit to Ireland. The next trip will be easier in the sense that we already know exactly where we want to stay - right here!

House of our dreams

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 06 May 2012 Date of Stay: April 2012
This was our first house swap, but we think we are spoiled right away.
What a house and what an environment.
This place is so beautifully located and carefully decorated with lots of nice art, furniture You notice the love and care of tis owner. The carpentry is wo well excecuted and this is the first place we ever stayed with love for kitchens. Sharp! knives beautiful, original kitchenware (cast iron, just love it) so well suited with the house and its environment. Areal live in kitchen. I think we lived more in there then in the living room. And then the lovable Denise, who takes care of the house and its guests. She is a gem.
This place will bring you really at rest with its environment, the most beautiful area of Ireland West Cork and Kerry County.
And the sea right in front of your door. And the everlasting ocean with the Teardrop of Ireland in as a comforting guard in sight.
We stayed 13 days, had only 1(one) day of sunshine but we didn't care less. The house, its environment, Ireland and its people (you will never meet friendlier folks) will never get you down.
Achim, thanks a bunch.

Achim,
The house was wonderful! We especially enjoyed your music collection and marveled at how fitting the music was to the setting. Listening to music and watching the changing sea was hypnotic. We enjoyed relaxing and visiting various sites in the area. Your house is a treasure. Denise (the caretaker) and her husband are marvelously informative and engaging. What a great way to spend our first trip to Ireland. So glad we skipped the tour buses!
