'The Cactus Patch' is a second story full apartment over our garage. 1 Bedroom with queen-size bed, a full kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, and coffee-maker. Living room has 2 futons that fold out to double beds, flat-screen TV, Dish network, and WiFi. There is a half bath, and downstairs is a full bath with tub/shower as well as a washer and dryer. Central heat to keep you warm in the winter and Air Conditioning to keep you cool in the Summer. There is an outside deck that is perfect for watching the sunrise with your morning coffee. You can also sleep under the stars on the deck if you wish.
We share the front yard which is the perfect spot to enjoy the gorgeous Sunsets.
You will have covered parking for you car, truck, or bike.
We are on 10 acres 1/2 mile up a dirt road off of Hwy 62, and 1/2 mile below JTNP land, which means Great Views and not too many neighbors.
We allow small pets, and smoking is only allowed outside.
We have extensive knowledge of the area and would be glad to help you plan your days, but if privacy is what you want, then privacy is what you will get.
We are pet-friendly, biker-friendly, hiker-friendly, rockclimber-friendly, people-friendly and would love to have you stay at this true 'home away from home'.
Some extras that we offer are:
We will do your grocery shopping for you and have it in the apartment when you arrive (for a 10 dollar fee) if you don't feel like spending a minute of your vacation grocery shopping.
And if you don't want to cook, but would like a 'dinner at home', we will cook dinner for you (priced from 20 to 40 dollars per person).
Thank you for considering 'The Cactus Patch'.
We are 'Desert Rats' at heart. We have lived in the desert most of our lives, and love this area. We love to travel and see other places, but we always come home to the desert.
Gayle Austin purchased this apartment in 2011
The reason we love this property is the amazing views. We are high enough up to see across the valley to Sunfair, and to have JTNP lands 1/2 mile behind us. The Stars, Sunrises, and Sunsets are unbelievably beautiful. Being on 10 acres, we have privacy and room to breathe.
Beauty 360 degrees around!
Tim and Lisa were such wonderful guests. They and their 2 boys were so respectful of our property. They left the apartment extremely clean, and well-taken care of. Lovely personalities and very friendly. They are what I imagine when I think about "dream guests". We would absolutely love to host this family again. Thank you Tim and Lisa and A and R.
Thank you Gayle and Tom for the beautiful place to stay.
I wanted to experience the solitude and tranquility of the desert, and wasn't sure if I could pull it off as a single woman.
The land behind your home was perfect! I felt totally safe to explore the area alone. The property is stunningly beautiful and sacred. And the national park entrance wasn't far away!
The apartment itself is IMMACULATE and has everything anyone could need. Every attention to detail. Nice comfy bed with great sheets and bedding. (very important for me).
This was a great place to stay. I cant wait to experience this land in the spring................I'm sure the gardens are amazing!
If I am ever in the area again I would love to stay at the Cactus Patch. Convenient to Joshua Tree National Park, which is beautiful, and really comfortable. A great kitchen for cooking and comfy place to hang out. The owners are super nice and helpful. 5 stars! Thanks so much!
We really enjoyed our stay !! The house is very clean and comfortable, has everything we needed plus some nice unexpected extras. The location is very convenient to visit the park during the day and the owners are really nice people. We will be back !!
I truly appreciated the welcome from Tom and Gayle and how they make you feel at home. Other reviews are correct, the kitchen is great. The location is convenient to town and not too far to the park. I would stay again, hope I do!
Spent five days at this wonderful desert getaway. Full kitchen with stocked cookware/utensils and full use of washer/dryer made the trip more convenient and affordable. My wife and two sons (ages 11 and 15) had a great time staying hear enjoying the 10 acres and making many other day trips to JT NP. Tom and Gayle were perfect hosts! Very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. Very easy to talk to and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Spent nights grilling under the stars and just relaxing. Viewed lots of wildlife in the park, Big horn sheep, iguanas, two rattlesnakes, gopher snake, road runners, coyotes, lizards and kangaroo rats! Would definitely recommend this spot and hope to go back. Thanks again Tom and Gale!
Cactus Patch is friendly, quiet, comfortable setting to let go of the busy life. The apartment is cozy fun and very clean and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed for daily living including all the essential kitchen amenities, even a salad spinner! Apartment highlights include: the surrounding quiet, the comfy bed, temperature control, the cold fridge at the end of day, the elevated deck to view the peaceful desert surroundings and the brilliant starry sky at night. During the day we enjoyed touring and hiking through the National Park. The rock features and Joshua Tree “forests” are a wonder to see, especially at sunset. The stillness down the trail away from the park road is profound. Park entrances are close by, as are of the nearby towns where it was fun to explore the cafes, restaurants, and saloons. The hosts are super friendly, easy going, and very knowledgeable of the area. They quickly got us set up with everything we needed when we arrived, let us know they were available should we need anything, but otherwise let us enjoy the apartment locale and park on our own. My gal Smiling gave me a big pat on the back for finding this place, especially considering the option of staying in a boring hotel on the busy highway. My advice: Don’t do the hotel option; have a getaway at the Cactus Patch!
Most people come to Joshua Tree to visit Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP), we also have murals and museums in 29 Palms, The Integratron www.integratron.com and Gubler's orchids www.gublers.com in Landers, Wildlife Sanctuary www.bigmorongo.org in Morongo Valley, Arts and Crafts galore in Joshua Tree, and museums and shopping in Yucca Valley.
JTNP www.nps.gov/jotr and www.joshuatree.org has hiking trails, rocks to climb, flora and fauna to view, and sights to see. There is a visitor center in Joshua Tree, and it is the west entrance to the Park.
Palm Springs is less than an hour away and is a mecca for food, shopping, spas, and sunning. The aerial tram in Palm Springs takes you one mile up Mount San Jacinto into a whole different world, 40 degrees cooler and lush trees and bushes, with snow in the winter.
