Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Waipouli - Sunrise Beach Home

Direct access to the Beach; 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath Home; Hot tub!

Live just steps from the beach in our ocean front cottage! If you ask anyone in the world what their dream destination is, chances are they are going to tell you “Hawaii.” With alluring ocean waves, breathtaking landscapes, and a vast amount of natural beauty surrounding the island-it is no surprise why millions of vacationers visit this destination each year. While there are hundreds of cities in Hawaii, one of the most awe-inspiring hotspots is Kauai. From rich beach hangouts to an array of activities such as parasailing and surfing; the opportunities are endless.

Located on Baby Beach in Kapaa, families can bring a young child to swim because of a shallow and safe natural lava rock wall running parallel to the shore. Located on Baby Beach in Kapaa, families can bring their children to swim because of a shallow and safe natural lava rock wall running parallel to the shore. This right in-town beach is a long time favorite easy stop for families to play in the water & for local workers to take a break by the ocean after work in our largest town on the island. A short walk to the north offers a more adult swimming area.

Our home is a comfortable fully furnished 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom 1200 sq.ft. beach house with a lanai facing the ocean. Imagine sitting on our lanai or in our two person hot tub to view the incredible East side sunrises or to catch the Full moon rising every month. The home has some beautiful art and furnishings in the home The owner has extensive experience in furnishings & art. We just opened on 12/15/2013

The cottage bedrooms have a King in one & a King bed in the other. The kitchen is fully equipped for anyone who has an urge for preparing a great meal. Nearby Farmers markets abound in the area. We also have a veggie garden to share with guests and an outdoor shower in a garden atmosphere to supplement our indoor bathroom.

The lots in the area are large & as one can see with the map on VRBO, we are on a corner lot with the ocean & the beach access in front of us after one crosses the combination pedestrian/bike path & the one way road. Not every house on the beach front has direct beach access. This newer home is in the front of the lot with a 85 year old cottage located in the center of the lot We are creating a screen between the two places. Both places have private garden areas.

We are a short walk from bike, snorkel, kayaking & shops. Nearby are supermarkets, health food stores and excellent restaurants. A spectacular 6 mile paved path along the coast beckons you to walk, bike or picnic. Along the path, you can watch turtles at sunset feeding & occasionally witness a rare monk seal coming in for a rest on the beach. The bike path extends to the front of our property. Use our two bikes to ride downtown along the ocean.

You are invited to enjoy a fantastic vacation in a reasonably priced total ocean view vacation rental. It is a unique new opportunity to be on the beach in this area.

About Ann Marie Holmes

I am the Property Manager & live just minutes away in Kapaa from our cottage on the beach. I have been living on Kauai for the last 8 years & have been working with renting out personal properties the whole time. I have design experience & love the spectacular natural beauty of Kauai & use these influences to create relaxing, clean environments for guests. I moved here from Oregon 8 years ago after building a house & landscaping with nature as a partner. I wrote a book, 'Earth Spirit Living' sharing my experiences about building with nature. I grew up in the bay area of California & have been working with different aspects of environment for the last 30 years. The owner has a lot of experience in creating a beautiful but comfortable home for hawaii.

Ann Marie Holmes purchased this house in 1980

Why Ann Marie Holmes chose Waipouli

This historical area, Baby Beach, features some of the original beach houses on the island & this ocean frint home is recently re-furbished & it is a pleasure to be a part of a sustainable re-vitalization for the community. The bike path, walks to great local restaurants like Tiki’s Tacos support you feeling like you are living in neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

We have a two person jacuzzi on the lanai & right now, guests are watching whales from the lanai. The new touches around the outside shower surrounded with more plants is a tropical dream. Enjoy a great barbecue meal in a shady area facing the ocean with seating. Also, Forbes has just named Kapaa, one of the prettiest towns in America! The movie, The Descendants, brought our fair town more attention.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a wonderful time in the house. We spent our days going for a run/walk aong the beach, playing in the surf & walking to restaurants nearby. When it was rainy, we went to the west side & found the sunniest beach to snorkel and swim. It was great to spend the evenings in our quiet neighborhood. The only neighbors that gave us any trouble were the roosters! They are early risers.

Unique and Fun Place to Stay

  • 4 out of 5
As others have stated, this is such a great place to stay being right across the street from the beach. Fun to watch all the locals who use this park daily! We saw several windsurfers also. Wonderful to be able to sit on the covered porch and watch the whole scene. The house is equipped with everything you need including beach toys and bicycles, and tons of beach towels.
The bike, walking path was truly enjoyable and we met a lot of characters along the way.
The roosters are being relocated so that little problem should get cleared up. They don't seem to know what time to crow! As the little town of Kapaa is our favorite Kauai spot, we would definitely consider staying here again.

Quaint

  • 4 out of 5
This house is a quaint little older home across the street from the beach. The beach is called Fuji (baby) beach. The beach seems to stay crowded. So if you are a people watcher, this is a great location. We experienced loud music from trucks parked at the beach at 3 am. Since the house does not have AC, you want to keep the sliding doors open. We were awakened easily by the noise outside. There was only a tabletop fan in the home that was used when the trade winds stopped. It was very warm with only the small fan. Although there are ceiling fans in both bedrooms, tall fans would have cooled the home. The bed in the room beachside creaked loudly, but was comfortable. There is 1 small bathroom that was sufficient for our party of 3 for the long weekend. I wish there had been an ice maker in the freezer. There were only 2 ice cube trays.

The home was conveniently located to town, to the bike/walking path, and to the beach. One of the better places we ate was Brickoven Pizza. We tried Shrimp Station and Tico Tacos, but I wouldn't recommend them. Don't go to Kauai to eat.

Overall, the house was nice, but feltl it was overpriced for what it lacked. The property manager was extremely nice and helpful.

Owner's Response: First, below is the review these guests left in the guest book so I had no idea that there were problems for them. I really encourage guests to please call me if you need something like a fan or to fix a squeaky bed. We would have come to make them more comfortable. Here is their review from our guest book.
"Thank you so much for the lovely home and beautiful location. We enjoyed our stay very much. It is always nice to see the amazing wildlife ( 1 monk seal & 3 Honu) that truly call this home. We greatly appreciate the hospitality. Until our next encounter, Mahalo & best wishes"
Our baby beach is an old local favorite & families with children as well as folks after work all come down to have a meal together or a few drinks. Many generations from plantation days still come for the young children to have a safe beach & there are good memories for this area when times were simpler. This island is small & the visitors & the locals blend & interact more than other islands. Our house gives you an incredible beach experience & a taste of Hawaii from older cultural days. The bike path, now a year old, in front of the house is encouraging healthy & new ways of connecting & blending. The noise is not a constant every day occurrence & week-ends are more likely to be a time for a get together. These guests booked the house for a week-end & the weather was nice so local families did come out. It is unusual for a truck with loud music to show up at 3a.m. With their suggestions, we have improved the bed & bought more fans. You can see from the other reviews that no one mentions noise. The chickens they do mention & we are slowly re-locating them from our land. Our vacation rental is in an old neighborhood. You are part of a local lively neighborhood in a garden setting.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!!

  • 5 out of 5
This house is situated right on the beach and is the perfect halfway point for island excursions. It’s about the same driving distance to either the north end or south end of the island.

I’m a health nut, eating all organic and gluten free, so it’s great that the biggest health food store (Papaya’s Natural Foods) on the island is a short 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive away. It’s located in the back right hand corner of the shopping center with Safeway Grocery Store (open 24hrs). There is one or more Farmer’s Markets every day somewhere on the island. One of the biggest is right in Kapaa, Wednesdays at 3pm. Turn left at the ABC Store when you are headed northbound on main street, then take the 2nd right. If you have special diet needs, you will really appreciate this unit’s fully equipped kitchen and huge refrigerator……it will be no problem to keep yourself really well fed. The best fish can be bought at Foodland Grocery store…..the next shopping center south of Safeway.

This is a busy, active area of the island, not a place if you are seeking total quiet. It’s a short walk to the cute little shops along main street. If you are fortunate enough to be here on a weekend, you will get to watch native Hawaiians and their children have barbeques on the beach and frolic in the shallow, kid friendly water. Feel free to join them in the water with your little ones. It’s safe for even the smallest and most timid kid……great for adults too, that have a fear of the open ocean. If you are a strong swimmer, you can walk to the next bay north for a great swim.

I felt like a queen in the king sized bed, soft sheets, oriental rugs and quality furniture. I didn’t use the hot tub, but it’s there on the lanai…perfect for people, whale or wave watching as you sip your tropical drink and soothe your tired body after a day of hiking.

One caution...if you have difficulty with stairs, it does have about 5 steps up, both front and back, because it is built in the traditional Hawaiian style of being up on stilts about 3+ feet for good air flow.

It’s a great location to stay on Kauai!!!

A great place

  • 5 out of 5
This property is wonderful and better than the pictures even look. We stayed there with our two boys age 4 and 8 and really enjoyed our time. Our boys would run around the yard, jump in the waves and chase chickens. The morning sunrise was fantastic off the lanai and the afternoon kite surfers were fantastic. This part of the island is breezy but is very centrally located as we would check the weather to find the best beach and head north or south or just stay put. All the appliances and kitchen utensils are there and very nice. We loved it. Prepare for the roosters to wake you up though

Winter escape

  • 4 out of 5
Loved this location on the island, central to everything and right on the beach. Beds comfy, kitchen well stocked. Really enjoyed the the hot outdoor shower And hot tub on the deck. The bathroom was ample but small. Bike bath right in front of the house. The roosters, an island issue, do call 24 hours, so we had to shut the windows to sleep. Ann Marie was a great host and I would recommend highly!

Owner's Response: We have a great photo now of our bathroom in the photo section. It is a standard size bath for the age of the home. We also have an outdoor shower with hot water.
Our rooster population around us is getting smaller with our rooster re-location service that brings the birds out to wilder parts of the isalnd so the experince is a bit quieter. Roosters are a part of our natural landscape here so If you are sensitive to sound, we recommend that you bring ear plugs.
