Entirely remodelled luxurious house, in Kurfürstendamm, between the Adenauerplatz and the Stuttgarter Platz, conveniently located regarding traffic. You can quickly reach everything, Mitte, Postdam, Messegelände, direct access to the airports. This high standard house, built in an original style, is a real oasis in the middle of the pulsing big city for a relaxing stay. Right outside the door, the Brummt der Bär and the Ku´damm invite you to shop and stroll in their elegant, international fashion boutiques, galleries, restaurants, etc. There is a private entrance to the summer house on the ground floor with a front garden which is also suitable for handicapped persons. All the modern comfort such as washing-machine, dish-washer, TV, DVD, Internet, telephone. Decorated with love and care for detail. Enough room for 4 people, families with children are welcome (high-chair and cot available upon request). Parking lot free of charge. Ideally located with all the cultural highlights nearby.
We stayed at Angelika's "chalet" for 15 days, the first half of July 2014. Fantastic location easy walk to S-bahn, U-bahn, train, and good bus lines as well: the 29 and 109 especially. Light, with high ceilings, great wifi and satellite TV connections, comfortable bed, excellent roomy shower, plenty of hot water, good storage space for luggage/clothes, good appliances that work well, responsible friendly owner. Building is silent, no noisy neighbors or partyers. Some traffic sounds from busy nearby street easily handled with earplugs, not a big issue for us. Kitchen good for "light" cooking. We suggested to the owner to add certain items for the kitchen which I'm sure she will do. We probably cooked more than most guests would. Lidl supermarket at walking distance, also an excellent if vastly expensive organic food supermarket, as well as a 24-hour fruit/veg stand, also not cheap. Restaurants, cafés, banks, etc., walking distance. Decent Asian restaurants on nearby Kantstrasse, though not San Francisco or London level. For Thai food lovers like us, the authentic Thai picnic was a godsend. It takes place every Sat/Sun from about noon in nearby Preussenpark in good weather, one U stop away, or 20-minute walk. All in all, a most pleasant stay.
This was a fun way to stay in Berlin. The flat was perfect for our needs and nice and quiet. It has some really fun antique touches like beautiful brass door handles and chandeliers but with all the modern amenities. Street parking is a bit scarce but we managed. Once we parked, we didn't move the car again. The apartment is very comfortable with all the amenities you need. The train station is just a couple of blocks away for an easy commute into the city.
Be sure to stop and read the square brass plaques embedded in the sidewalk just outside the building's front door. They are in German but easy to understand. They commemorate the deportation of Jews who lived in that building during the war. Our next stop after Berlin was Buchenwald so it was food for thought as we left the building the last morning.
Angelika was very helpful getting us settled in for our stay.
My wife and I are in our lates 60s, and we are independent travelers. Unlike most Americans we never rent cars while abroad, and rely on public transportation. We stayed at Angelika's apartment for 12 days in mid March of 2013, as part of six weeks travels in Italy, Berlin and Malta. We were joined for part of that time by our daughter and her partner. Despite bitter cold weather and frequent snow, we really loved our visit to Berlin and our stay in Angelika's apartment. This apartment is accessed by a separate door off a courtyard, and does feel like a separate house. The apartment offfered a large bedroom and living room (with convertible couches), an excellent bathroom, and a kitchen that was more than well equipped with high end appliances. This last included coffee and tea makers, a dishwasher, a washing machine, and all the dishes and cooking utensils one might wish. After three weeks on the road in Italy, it was nice to brew up coffee in the morning, and my wife loved having clean clothes again. We saved a lot of money by eating in often. We had control of the heat, and stayed warm -- no small consideration in a Berlin winter.
The location of the apartment is excellent for public transportation. The U-Bahn 7 line is five minutes away on the Kuferstendamn, and the major S-Bahn Charlottensburg station is five minutes away in the other direction. We were able to avoid taxi fare from Schoenfield airport by making our way the first day from Charlottensburg station (airport trains stop here) to the apartment, with the aid of a good map. If arriving at Tegel, you can take the X9 to Zoological Station, hop aboard an S train two stations to Charlottensburg station, and do what what we did. That said about transportation, both Berlin and its transportation system are huge, and it took us a few days to understand how to use all the transport options. Most travel requires transfers. This apartment is best for self actualized, independent travelers. If you stay here, we also definitely recommend a walk along the shopping mecca of the Kuferstendamn to the Kathy Kollick museum (about 25 minutes) -- on just about every short list of must see Berlin msueums.
Angelika was accomodating to our needs in setting up, and then left us alone for the remainder of our stay -- exactly what we wanted as independent travelers. We would recommend this apartment to friends and any persons wishing a unique place to stay in Berlin.
This is no cliche, it feels like home away from home!
This is one apartment you don't want to miss.
Rommy enough for 4 persons, spotlessly clean, WIFI included.
Amazing location in Berlin, every berliner would tell you that. Sourrounding is very quiet .
5-8 minutes walk to the nearest S-Bahn train station Charlouttenburg. From there getting to the center (Alexanderplatz, friedriechstrasse etc. ) is very easy and a train get out of the station every 2-3 minutes. It's a 15-20 minutes ride to the heart of berlin.
10 minutes walk to the shopping district kurfustandam (amazing street!). 5 Supermarkets and one is 24-hours in walking distance.
The apartment is FULLY EQUIPPED. Kitchen included dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, kettle, hob, coffe machine. It had all the things we needed to cook for ourselfs and was luxury (ALL OF THE ELECTRICITY IN THE HOUSE IS BY THE BEST GERMAN BRANDS and COMPLETLY NEW).
Bath was VERY CLEAN, and very comfortable to take a shower in it.
Although the house is 55sqm or so.. it feels like it's bigger, really ROOMY.
Landloaner Angelika is sweet and considerate and helped us with all arangement even though we gave her only a 24-h notice before our arrival that was spontanious. She's trustworthy and has very professional and experienced with vacation rentals.
All in all an amazing place to explore one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Don't hesitate and send the email to Angelika. You won't regret it.
Angelika - we'll be back! Thank you for everything.
We are experienced vacation apartment renters; we've rented vacation apartments in New York City, Paris, Barcelona, Florence and Nice. Angelika's apartment in Charlottenburg is probably one of the nicest we've stayed in. It's clean, warm, comfortable and very well equipped, including a washing machine, great hair dryer, plenty of pots, pans and utensils in the kitchen and WiFi internet. The bathroom is spacious for an old European apartment, and the hot water is plentiful. Located in a courtyard, it's very quiet.
And it's well situated; the Audenauerburg U-bahn and Charlottenburg S-bahn stations are a two-minute walk away in either direction, or walk for 30 minutes along busiest, and most stylish section of the Ku-damm, past designer stores like Gucci, Prada, Valentino, to Kaiser Wilhelm Church. There's a great little bakery around the corner that opens at 6 a.m. and a grocery store just Lewishamstrasse; just look the other way as you pass the Erotica shop (it's more campy-funny than anything else) and whatever you do, don't be tempted to use the pedestrian tunnel.
Angelika, the landlord, is very welcoming; she gave us a thorough tour of the apartment, some advice for exploring the city, her phone number in case we had any problems in the apartment and then left us to enjoy our time in Berlin until we checked out.
Vielen Dank.
