About Bob or Cathy Cavanagh

We have had several experiences with rental properties when we lived on Long Island. We moved to Vermont in September 2012, but have been coming here for quite a few years. We love the area & all of the seasons.

Bob or Cathy Cavanagh purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Bob or Cathy Cavanagh chose Arlington, VT

We purchased this property because the first time we drove down this street, the yard was beautiful & we thought, if this property ever goes on the market, we would love to buy it. A few years later, it went on the market & we were fortunate enough to be able to purchase it. We have been traveling to Vermont for approximately 20 years. We have always loved the unique beauty of all of the seasons.

When we first bought the house, we were only able to come up for vacations and long weekends, as we were working on Long Island & had family obligations there. We have since, retired and have been able to make it our home.

The Roaring Branch is beautiful in every season. Listening to the water run is most soothing.

After we moved here, we decided to continue a project started by the previous owner. We completely renovated the cottage. It is homey & still has the charm it was meant to have.

Perfect little cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just stayed here for 4 days. It was only 5 minutes from my parents so the location was important. It is about 1 mile up a well maintained dirt road, with the Roaring Branch River running along the road out front. You can hear it running. It was very snowy, but the driveway area and walks were well maintained. Bird feeders out in front were very busy! Cathy and Bob, the owners were there to greet us and show us around. They are very friendly and welcoming, and we felt like we were visiting friends. The cottage it self is small, so best for a couple and maybe one child. The owners thought of every little detail. And it was very well kept and clean. The kitchen is well stocked with all kinds of cookware, and there was a Keurig and a nice selection of pods, and a coffee maker and filters also. The fridge was clean and had creamers ready to go. There was a nice selection of spices for cooking and some cooking oil. The bathroom while small, is perfectly laid out, and it had it's own little heater! I loved that! There was a great shower, and many toiletries if you forgot something. A first aid kit, Tylenol. It was all there. The living area was comfortable, and there is a futon for an extra person. There is TV and dish tv too. Upstairs is a large very comfortable queen bed with nice linen. It was cozy and very quiet. I think with the windows open, the river can be heard and plenty of birds. We slept well, and relaxed plenty. There is good walking right up the road, very scenic, about 1.5 miles to the National Forest. Great for snowmobiling, or hiking, or XC skiing. !5 minutes driving gets you to Bennington or Manchester. We will stay here again when visiting family.

Great, cozy stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cute, cozy place. It was fully stocked with everything we needed for the weekend and kept us warm during a cold, snowy couple of days. Plenty of space and we loved the kitchen! Bob and Cathy were extremely generous and accommodating. Perfect Valentine's Day getaway.

Perfect little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Bob and Cathy were gracious hosts who offered anything anyone may need. Cottage had all the amenities and is in a beautiful peaceful location. Loved the babbling brook across the road. Stratton was about 40 min away with an easy ride. Was a wonderful getaway with my wife and would love to revisit, hopefully next year!

MLK weekend ski trip

  • 5 of 5

We had a ski trip to Stratton mountain and we stayed at Bob and Cathy's cabin and it was great.

Initially we thought it is an hour away from the mountain it is only 40 min. All highway. The cabin is very warm and cozy. Spotless clean. A little on the small size. Bob and Cathy are great people very helpful live next door and they thought of every thing you might need is in there I was very impressed but amout of supplies in the cabin definitely we will be back

Just Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for more gracious hosts. Bob and Cathy are really nice people. The cabin was extremely clean and very comfortable and well appointed. If you forgot something I'll bet Cathy and Bob have it there. They even left a bag of treats for our cats.

You simply cannot find a nicer place for the money than here. We will definitely be back!
