We have had several experiences with rental properties when we lived on Long Island. We moved to Vermont in September 2012, but have been coming here for quite a few years. We love the area & all of the seasons.

Bob or Cathy Cavanagh purchased this cottage in 2005

We purchased this property because the first time we drove down this street, the yard was beautiful & we thought, if this property ever goes on the market, we would love to buy it. A few years later, it went on the market & we were fortunate enough to be able to purchase it. We have been traveling to Vermont for approximately 20 years. We have always loved the unique beauty of all of the seasons.

When we first bought the house, we were only able to come up for vacations and long weekends, as we were working on Long Island & had family obligations there. We have since, retired and have been able to make it our home.

The Roaring Branch is beautiful in every season. Listening to the water run is most soothing.

After we moved here, we decided to continue a project started by the previous owner. We completely renovated the cottage. It is homey & still has the charm it was meant to have.

The Cozy Cottage

  • 5 out of 5
What an amazing place filled wth amenities and charm! Bob and Cathy were very hospitable and were very welcoming to my children (2 dogs). There cottage was warm and inviting and a perfect location nestled away amist the charm of the Green Mountains. I had such a great time I went back a few weeks later!

Wonderful, relaxing getaway.

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed at Bob and Cathy's cottage for 3 nights over New Years 2014. The cottage was perfect for what we were looking for. It was a cozy cottage for a couples getaway with a wonderful kitchen, living room and bedroom. We cooked all of our meals in the kitchen which was well stocked with amenities. Over the 3 nights we were there the temperature never got above 20 degrees and we had a snowstorm one night leaving a foot of snow. The cottage remained warm and cozy throughout the storm, and Bob so kindly plowed out and cleaned off my car in the morning so we were able to leave on time. The cottage was close to Stratton Mt. and Mt. Snow with a short 20-50 minute drive to either mountain. I would highly recommend this cottage to any couple looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway, or on a weekend ski trip. Bob and Cathy were right next door in case of any questions or problems we had but were not intrusive at all. I know that we will be back this winter for a weekend ski trip. All around a perfect getaway and we look forward to coming back.

Cozy & Quiet Getaway

Cozy & Quiet Getaway

We can't wait to come back! We've stayed in many rentals and this was one of the best. The cottage was comfortable, clean, pet friendly and full of amenities... If you forget something they have it covered! This place is a great value for all you get. The internet was fast and we enjoyed the DirectTV. While it is in a rural setting (loved the sound of the babbling brook across the street) it is very close to rt 7 and 7a, making it easy to visit Manchester, Bennington, etc. The owners are extremely pleasant and hospitable. They live next door and are available but not intruding. You can tell they thought of every detail and amenity you may need while at their cottage. We were even welcomed with sweet treats for us and our dogs. Thanks Bob and Cathy for making our stay so enjoyable!

Owner's Response: Jessica and Brian,

Thank you for your review of our property. We were pleased to have you both. We travel often and understand that sometimes you can forget the simplest things. We feel that it is easy enough to have those things available. Our main goal is to make it a comfortable place to stay and relax.

We look forward to seeing you again.

The perfect cottage in a great location, with wonderful owners!

  • 5 out of 5
My wife and I wanted to get away to a secluded New England cabin or cottage that wasn't going to cost a ridiculous amount of hard earned money. I scanned the internet from Maine to Vermont with the intent of finding a suitable location away from busy roads and towns. When I landed on this site, I thought "hmm . . . too good to be true" - the rental fee was half of what typical cottages/cabins cost. After speaking with Cathy, I decided to go with it, and my wife and I never had one moment of regret. This is a wonderful, newly renovated, clean cottage on a quiet road across from a lovely stream. Because the road is closed at one end, the traffic is minimal, and we felt safe walking our dog, taking in the quiet atmosphere.
The friendly, warm owners, Bob and Cathy, live next door. They were never intrusive, but were always happy to answer our questions regarding hiking trails, best routes, and good restaurants.
Because the cottage is very close to routes 7 and 7A, we could get on the road to our destinations in a jiffy. It's also less than 5 minutes to a stunningly good take-out kitchen called EATS. We enjoyed the food so much, we ordered something different every night and stayed in with our dog, just reading or watching satellite tv. Since the cottage's kitchen is more than adequate for preparing home-cooked meals, we always ate breakfast at home.
The bed upstairs is comfortable, and the bedroom is big with plenty of open space to spread out. The bathroom downstairs, though on the small side, is super clean, with a good shower and plenty of hot water. In case you forget to pack an item, the bathroom is filled with fresh toiletries. The gift of the box of chocolate truffles on the dining table was just one indication of how much attention to detail Cathy and Bob give to their cottage and the comfort of their guests.
I don't have a single criticism of the cottage. For my wife and me, it exceeded every expectation, and we plan to be back soon.
