We're 5.6 miles from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, 1234 square miles, with groves of Joshua Trees, incredible gigantic boulders and some of the best rock climbing in the world. If you don't feel like driving, then a minutes walk up the street (900 yards) is where you'll find a trailhead (Wildlife Habitat Restoration area) to wander - climbable rocky hills, 360 degree views of Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, 29 Palms and Joshua Tree National Park.
About 2 miles from our Getaway is “Downtown” Joshua Tree which has art galleries, a yoga studio, adventure & hiking outfitter stores, a bakery, gift shops, many restaurants including great burgers and great vegan fare, even a (remarkably good) pizza parlor as well as other restaurants including Thai, a saloon and home style coffee shop. A National Park Visitors Center is located right off the main drag, so you can park there and check out the shops before you head to our backyard, Joshua Tree National Park.
Just about 40 minutes away is Palm Springs! If you do venture to Palm Springs for the day then consider going to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Air museum or The Living Desert.
About 40 minutes away is the famous 'Giant Rock' - a large freestanding boulder in the Mojave Desert near Landers, California, that covers 5,800 square feet of ground and is seven stories high. Giant Rock is purported to be the largest free standing boulder in the world.

They love the desert and the fresh, clean air and natural surroundings and wildlife. Best of all - the lack of city crowds and traffic!
This vacation rental is fairly new to VRBO. They had been renting it privately. We take pride in our property and are responsive to any of our renters needs. Since we are local, we deal with our guests directly – from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between.
We love the house and vacation home because it was custom built with extra thick walls, has passive solar features, high ceilings and is in a quiet and secluded part of town. We love being able to walk 10 minutes to hike or just sit on the patio and watch the abundant wildlife. And because we're high up, we even have a view of the city lights.
The nicest place i have rented in JTree. Meticulously clean, well appointed, extremely comfortable, serene, quiet, peaceful. Pam and John are exquisite hosts, thinking of every detail in making their rental the ideal desert get-a-way. The landscaping just invites evenings on the bench watching the sunset. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything one needs to eat in and the lists of local restaurants / attractions are complete for eating out. Cleanest, nicest JTree rental i have stayed in over the last 5 years. Definitely going back!
My wife and I had a very serene and comfortable stay at this spacious Joshua Tree home. The privacy and landscaping are superior, and the owners make sure to provide all the material needs for sleeping, cooking, eating, lounging, strolling, and so on. Be aware that there is a high brick wall that surrounds the yard, and this can be seen as either advantageous or disadvantageous. Certainly the wall provides a feeling of sanctuary, and this is reflected in the fact that the owners call the property a "compound." But the wall also serves to block out the backyard view of some of the spectacular surrounding desert scenery, and sometimes we found ourselves wishing to feel a bit less hemmed in. It's an entirely subjective response; some visitors will appreciate the wall and some won't. Setting that one consideration aside, the home and grounds are gracious, well-equipped, and the location is superb.
What a fantastic place in a great area!!
Unfortunately, my colleague & I were on a 'working holiday', so we couldn't make use of the house and it's lovely location to the full, but I have promised my wife that we will come and stay for a proper holiday in the future.
Great home away from home, in a quite, peaceful and beautiful location. Just a few minutes from the Park and a few minutes from the restaurants and shops in town. Very clean and comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen, patio and lovey cactus and wildflower garden. We have rented a lot of places and this home is at the top! We'll be back!
We've stayed in many places in Joshua Tree and this is both the most comfortable AND the most reasonably priced. Can't beat that. Beautiful setting, near the park, with a wonderful hiking trail just 5 minutes walk up the road. Very spacious home, great kitchen to cook and eat in, and very comfortable living room for hanging out, reading, etc. Pam and John are terrific hosts, and the place is meticulously kept. Highly recommend. Will definitely return!
After we arrived and walked through the house and yard, we were already trying to figure out when we would return! Can not recommend the place highly enough. Joshua Tree is magical.
There is a wildlife refuge down the block to watch amazing sunsets. The yard at the house has a stone wall that gives privacy from the road and blocks the wind so you watch the equally beautiful sunrise in the morning.
Of course, there is the park and plenty of other fun things to do... Like relax!
Palm Springs is just 35-40 minutes away where there is live theater, a zoo, one of the world's highest aerial trams, museums, etc..
