Holiday Affair is situated on one of the most beautiful beaches in Great Exuma. The house has 270' of beachfront to relax on, catch some sun or swim in the breathtaking tourquoise water. You can walk this beath for several peaceful miles. There is a hammock to lie in with the water lapping in your view while you enjoy a tropical drink! This 2 bedroom house is decorated with colorful, tropical furniture and fabrics with great attention to detail for the most diserning traveler. It features most everything you need to not really have to leave the property unless you want to. The kitchen is fully equipped with Thermador products including a 36' range, refrigerator/ freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Also includes Nespresso coffee maker, blender and and everything you need to cook a gourmet meal. The beds include a King size in the Master with the finest sheets and linens (John Robshaw) while the guest room has 2 twins which can be converted if desired to a King. The visual beauty from the large deck on the Sea is second to none and cocktails in the evening with the view of the Caribbean sky is quite extraordinary. You will leave well rested with a desire to return as soon as possible!
Currently live in Los Angeles but originally from Canada. Family was one of the original families that emigrated to this Island from Scotland in the early 1700's- (before the American Revolution) We have a long history on this Island and much love for it and it's people! This is one of a few homes we have on the Island and we spend all of our available vacation time there.
Nancy Smith purchased this house in 2004
It is absolutely beautiful! The view is one of the best on the Island. It's peaceful, serene vibe and close proximity to Georgetown makes it as close to perfect as you can get.
Holiday Affair is a beautifully decorated house located on a semi private beach. When you are on the beach it almost feels as if you have the island to yourself. The sunrise as you walk down the beach is breath talking, for me it was the best part of the day. The people we met as we walked the beach were more than friendly and had lots of tips to ensure or stay on the island was a pleasure. The house is large enough to be extremely comfortable for 4 adults, large modern kitchen with a great dinning room overlooking the ocean.
The house is centrally located on the island and you are minutes away from George Town one of the larger towns on the island. To make your trip more enjoyable plan on renting a car this way you can explore every nook and cranny of the island at your leisure. Remember this island saying while driving " left is best" as they drive on the left side of the road which takes no time at all to get used to.
While staying at Holiday Affair I am sure you say to yourself as my wife and I did many times over " this is a lifestyle I can get used to" . The island is as laidback or exciting as you choose to make it. Had we known what a gem Exuma is and what a beautiful relaxing atmosphere that Holiday Affair was our one week trip would of definitely been two.
We just returned from a fantastic seven-day stay at Holiday Affair. We booked only a month prior to leaving and we hit a home run choosing this beautiful home for our vacation. Centrally located on Tar Bay, the house is only a 10 - 12 minute drive to Georgetown and even closer to Smitty's Convenience Store and Prime Island Meats and Deli. Caretaker Sasha answered all of the questions we asked of her prior to our arrival, even providing the name of a local chef who cooked a wonderful dinner for us (for a fee, of course) on one of our last nights on the island. Because the house is on a fairly large lot, with 270' of beachfront, neighboring houses are not too close by, giving the house an extremely private feel, especially from the deck and patio. The grounds are very well maintained and tiled/stone walkways surround the house. The house has two outdoor showers, one with hot water close to the patio and bedrooms and another with cold water only but with a low spigot to rinse sand from your feet off the second bedroom patio. We used both regularly.
Of course, the greatest feature of the house is its location on the crystal clear waters of Tar Bay. The beach is gorgeous and the water warm. While we were there, we saw only a handful of people walking the beach each day, something we enjoyed also.
Another aspect of the home we absolutely loved was the multiple sliding glass doors facing the water. With one in the master bedroom, three in the dining room/kitchen level and three in the raised living room (one that actually faces south), the 10 - 15 mph breeze we had every day kept the house nice and cool. The steady breeze also meant no mosquitoes or no-see-ums biting us.
Although the house only sleeps four, there are enough plates, glasses (plastic and glass), silverware and towels (bath and beach) to serve a home more than twice the size. The modern appliances were first-rate and the microwave appeared to be brand new. The well-appointed kitchen has everything needed to cook a gourmet meal. Our only suggestions for the kitchen: new oven mitts and a couple of re-usable ice packs for day trips to other beaches. A worker at Smitty's was kind enough to give us two ice packs, which we left behind. The house could also use a clothesline to help dry wet bathing suits and beach towels. We used the deck railings and shower curtain rods.
Thank you, Nanci, for sharing your beautiful home with us. We would happily return!
This property is ideal for two couples or a family with 2 children / teens. The home is even more amazing then the pictures! We enjoyed the chef kitchen and prepared most of our meals ourselves. Comfy beds, an outdoor shower, a great beach to walk on and a spacious deck to read and relax on were highlights for us. The ocean was steps away and we regularly and frequently took the time to enjoy the waves and swim. The nights were so clear that we were able to spend hours star gazing before a good night's sleep. Thank you to Jenny for offering to stock the fridge with some needed items. She was just a call away if we needed anything. Thank you to Nanci for sharing this slice of heaven with us! A perfect vacation was had by all 4 of us!
First of all, the photos on the website do not do it justice. The beach access & views are stunning, both from the sand and the large deck. No houses on either side & limited development up & down the coast mean that you rarely see any one else.
You can walk over a mile up & down the beach in either direction on the sparkling white sands to enjoy some of the best aquamarine colors we have seen anywhere in the world.
The house has full-length sliding glass doors along the ocean side making the view from within as good as from the outside. No problems with the furnishings, appliances or facilities. Jenny (property manager) was always a quick phone call away if we needed anything. She met us at the airport so we wouldn't have to find our own way & showed us the entire house & its workings upon our arrival.
If you only need two bedrooms, this is the villa for you. We don't normally return to the same places as this is a great big world to see - but this is one that we could come back to. If it was big enough for our extended family, we would already be making arrangements to bring them here.
The Holiday House was just lovely and tastefully decorated. I appreciated all of the comfortable beading, pillows and beach towels. It was perfect for the 3 of us. I really like Hoopers Bay, the location of the house. The house was on a great beach and located close to Georgetown and shopping. There were a few minor problems (refrigerator never worked…but a small one in the laundry room outside did, so we made do) and the air conditioner in the main sitting room didn't put out any cool air. But that kind of mechanical malfunctions are expected in a house by the sea. The salt air gets into everything! The internet didn't work for the first few days but eventually someone came out and actually repaired it! (I get the feeling its almost a miracle to get anyone to actually get a job done on the island!) But these things are typical in the Caribbean. I was happy that the showers had a good flow of hot water! (another thing that I find is hard to come by in the Caribbean). I would love to come back to this house. It was so very comfortable. Absolutely Lovely.
