In a leafy hamlet 3 minutes from the village Gouville sur Mer, 'Mon Souvenir' offers its guests a hidden, tranquil retreat. Accommodation arranged over 3 floors / 240sq.m. A choice of very different rooms in which to relax; the garden room (which overlooks the pool), the snug and the family room. The thriving village of Gouville sur Mer has a twice weekly market in summer, supermarket, 2 bakeries, butcher, banks, hairdresser, beauty treatments, pharmacy, doctors, bar, post office, churches, an exhibition centre and a tourist office. There are 2 restaurants and many more within 10 minutes drive including 'Le Mascaret', a restaurant gastronomique and 'La Cale' , a seafood restaurant on the beach with distant views of the oyster and mussel beds.

This region offers a spectacular coastline with picturesque stone villages, little ports and beautiful, sandy beaches.

About James and Debbie Mayhew

Our website www.dreamgites.com

We have been living in this beautiful part of Normandy since 1989. The first holiday rental we had was a converted bake house on the grounds of our first property. We have since then restored and renovated a number of old stone houses, all within 5 km of the wild coast. We have 2 gites, both quite different but interesting houses with lots of character and a bit of fun!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for your warm and intelligent hospitality. We had our every need anticipated and every comfort of home - plus the beautiful beach, backyard, pool, playroom and on and on.

We followed your suggestions for dining out and were pleased each time. The best was La Cale, also Restaurant de la mer was good.

And the top of the week, the sand yachting! We had a blast. Debbie thank you for being a sport and coming along. It made the experience that much more enjoyable.

Beautifully Presented Holiday House

  • 5 of 5

Mon Souvneir is a beautifully presented large family holiday house, fully equipped to be a home from home in a quiet location. The house was beautifully decorated and clean upon arrival. There was more than enough living area and bedrooms for ourselves and the other family that stayed with us. The play room upstairs for the children was perfect and well used by our 3 children.

The garden and patio area was a perfect size for the children to run around and the pool being above ground is great when there are little ones about!!

We had a problem with the pool heater whilst there and a replacement motor took longer to source than hoped but James and Debbie kept us up to spead with what was happening and it was fixed eventually. The

compensation offered was not expected but was a lovely gesture.

The area is perfect for families with lots of small villages and a coast line that goes on for miles with lots of access points.

We would certainly recommend for large families and would certainly look at staying at Mon Souvneir again.

Perfect for a holiday with extended family

  • 5 of 5

Mon Souvenir is a lovely, well-maintained property in a peaceful location. Perfect for a holiday with extended family, there is plenty of space for everyone and our boys particularly enjoyed the well-equipped playroom as well as the pool. There are a number of safe, clean beaches in the area which are great for little ones.

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

The house is excellently appointed. Great kitchen, good sized living area, bedrooms and bathrooms are a) spotlessly clean, b) fitted out to a very high standard, the house feels homely and not unlike something you would see in a magazine. The pool is a raised pool, which perhaps means you don't it as much as you would if it were a normal pool but it's very clean, warm and highly useable, so I would not be too put off. The location is excellent. Lovely beaches nearby and nicely placed for normandy beaches about 1 hour north or Avranches ( 40m south) Mont St Michel (1:15 south) . I would recommend this property.

Relaxing and beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay during the first week of June 2013. The old farmhouse is large and has all the amenities you need and then some. The town of Gouville Sur Mer is very nice; people are friendly and everything you need is right there, even for non-French speakers like us. We really enjoyed the french fries and Luigi's pizza at the Friday market. It is a very beautiful drive to the D-Day beaches and the local beach is relaxing and a nice place to pick up shells. The countryside is beautiful. Even with our four children, there was more than enough room and they really enjoyed the pool and the rec room. It was a quiet, restful time to relax together. Debbie and James were very helpful and made us feel right at home. We'll definitely recommend it to other people. Thanks!

great place for families in Normandy

  • 5 of 5

We had two families with young kids and place was perfect. Very comfortable/cozy with perfect location -- close to beach, half way between Mont St. Michel and D-day beaches and related sites. owners friendly and accessible. big kitchen, nice tv/dvd/wifi set-up, great yard and small pool outside, with cute little village down the road. We would go back again with no hesitation.

Wonderful Place for a Family or Group holiday

  • 5 of 5

The house is large and easily swallowed up our group of 11 while at the same time it had a homely feeling about it. There are 3 bedrooms on the first floor all en suite. On the 2nd floor there are two bedrooms with a shared bathroom, all fitted out to the highest standard. The games room with it table tennis was well used by the younger more athletic members of our family. Downstairs there is a large kitchen family room with a large TV receiving UK channels. (for those that can't do without soaps and quiz shows) The kitchen is fitted out to a high standard with most modern kitchen gadgets. There is a lovely orangery room and a quiet cosy sitting room. All rooms are very well furnished and decorated. In the back garden there is a good sized swimming pool. There is a barbecue table and chairs for al fresco catering. Everythin is clean and well maintained

The owners Debbie and James are attentive to your needs but never obtrusive. If you need assistance or just tourist information they are always available to help.

Gourville su Mer is about 3 KM away and has all the supplies for your daily needs. Coutance is the largest town in the area and is about 12km from the house. It has a large Le Clerc and a good sized Carrefour.. Shopping is excellent. There is large Bistro Cafe in the two square opposite the cathedral which can cater for large parties. Order one course at a time unless you are extremely hungry.

Th nearest Golf Course is at Coutainville 15 minutes away. The course is challenging and has a lot of par 3s. The greens and tees are in good condition however the fairways are not that great with a multitude of different grasses giving and uneven finish. The green fees are 47 Euros on what would be a £20-£25 course in UK but there are not as many courses in France and demand is high.

Along the beach just north of Coutainville there are a couple of beech restaurants which to put it mildly are very basic. The menu is simple and the food wholesome. There is live music; the night we were there it was a group of music students playing and singing classical pieces. By 8 o'clock it was packed. It is a good cheap night out

If you want to have theme parks, discos and boozy pub crawls this holiday is not for you. It is a lovely house in a quiet hamlet in rural France - it for those who just want to relax with friends and families.

Would we go back? Of course we would

Gouville-sur-Mer is situated on the west coast of the Normandy peninsular. About an hour from Cherbourg and 1hr 30 from Caen, it's easy to reach. Well placed for cultural outings such as Mont St Michel, the Normandy Landings, The Bayeux Tapestry and so many activities and sports on offer; golf (see notes on golf), karting, horse riding on the beach, kite surfing and much more. Gouville has a weekly market (twice in July/August) bakeries, butcher, supermarket etc . The beautiful local beach, flat and sandy, is only 5 minutes drive from the house. Agon Coutainville (10 mins) has more restaurants.. Coutances (10 min) has an annual May jazz festival. The pretty port of Granville (40 min. south) offers chic shopping and the Christian Dior museum. Picturesque port Barneville Carteret (40 min. north) has a Michelin rosette restaurant and trips to Jersey. Our part of the coast is a particularly welcoming area of Normandy; child friendly with plenty to see and do for all ages

Other Activities: sand yachting, quadbiking, karting, carp fishing in private lake

Golf: Golf: There are at least 16 golf courses we could mention in Brittany, Upper and Lower Normandy. Because we are situated in Lower Normandy we are fortunate enough to be within reach of many of these golf courses. Here are 5 that we recommend. You are very welcome to email or phone for more info about these courses, other courses and group discounts. The local club in this area is Golf de Coutainville (12 mins drive) It's a particularly friendly club with good restaurant, golf coaching and regular competitions for all. It's also a few minutes' walk to Coutainville beach , shops & village square. Coutainville Golf Club 12 minutes Agon Coutainville' on the map.Granville Golf Club , 18 holes + 9 holes, 35 mins south, Golf Cote des Isles, Barneville Carteret , 53 mins north, 9 holes, beautiful area/ Michelin star hotel-restaurant in village. Omaha Beach Golf Club, Port-en-Bessin about 1hr 30, worth the journey, ( also near the Normandy landings ) Saint Malo, le Tronchet in Brittany, also about 1hr 30, worth the journey
