Hau'oli Hideaway is a special vacation rental located in the small quaint valley of Moloaa, Kauai. It is perched above a lush tropical garden with ocean and mountain views. The producers of the tv show Gilligan's Island thought so highly of this location they filmed the pilot and other episodes here. And just as on the show... this beach still feels like a deserted island hideaway. Hau'oli Hideaway is located across the stream from the beach, and beach access is a one minute walk. Many days one can find themselves completely alone on this magical beach. If you love to
snorkel this is one of the gem ocean locations on Kauai. Hau'oli Hideaway is a very private setting.
The 'hideaway' has a king bed upstairs, and a queen bed
and queen sleeper sofa downstairs. The downstairs studio
has it's own entrance but is part of the house. Both bedrooms have a full bathroom attached.
Hau'oli Hideaway is accessed by a private bridge across the Moloaa Stream. The house is situated ideally-- not directly
on the beach , where you could be constantly barraged with wind and waves. It is far enough away to feel the peace, yet close enough to hear and smell the wonderful
The house is nestled amongst a tropical landscape complete with coconut, banana, star fruit, breadfruit, papaya, plumeria and a variety of citrus and exotic flowers, which you are welcome to pick. Moloaa Beach is 100 yards away and its privacy makes it feel like the old days of hawaii. It is really a paradise.
Within walking distance you may see many birds including albatross and frigates, turtles, and whales during season (dec.- april).
Some people have asked if this is 2 separate houses? The answer is no, if you are renting the house, the whole house is yours, upstairs and down. The downstairs has its own entrance- no interior stairway, so both parties have privacy, but may not be suitable for families with small children who require sleeping near parents.
Please check calendar before inquiry.
Bill and Jill purchased this property in mid-2013. When we saw it we knew we wanted to be a part of this story and share this beautiful location with previous renters who love it and return again and again, and with new people who can experience it for the first time. Being the new owners we have made some considerable changes improving various aspects of the already wonderful property.

We fell in love with this place and its surroundings. Awesome ocean and mountain views with 2 decks. Very private. 100 yards to one of the best beaches in Hawaii
The property is located at the end of a dead end road, so there is NO thru traffic. It is quiet and not crowded.
We had an absolutely amazing stay here at Hau'Oli Hideaway. The pictures just don't even begin to describe the home. We've stayed in Kaua'i numerous times and this particular trip was so much better because of this property. The front and back yards surrounding the home are gorgeously kept and so very Hawaiian. We enjoyed making breakfast, lunch and dinner rather than going out, giving us the extra time to relax and enjoy Moloaa beach, which is truly just a short walk from the home. The view of it from the balcony is magical. The inside of the home is very well kept, with beautiful wood ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that brought the outside in. Past trips we've found ourselves traveling to Ke'e each day and braving the crowds but there was just no need to this time. The provided beach chairs were so nice to have and we used the snorkeling equipment to explore the east end of the beach, which was very swimmable. I could go on ... We'll be hoping Hau'Oli Hideaway is available when we plan our next stay!
This is a fantastic property! No surprises, it is as advertised, from the amenities to the location, and for the price you can't find better accommodations on Kaua'i. Great for families or friends with the separate living quarters, be forewarned, there are a lot of steps to the upstairs, but it's totally worth it. :) Loved being able to see the whale spouts from the deck!! The beach has plenty of room, and was never crowded, even when you thought it would be based on the cars parked on the road. In the winter, the water can be chilly and rough, not every day was good to swim, but just being on the beach was enough. There were some no-seeums or some tropical bug other than mosquitoes that got to me, but that's the only negative, and really some kind of bugs are to be expected, just part of it.
This was our first trip to Hawaii and to Kauai -- after staying here, we don't need to go anywhere else. The beauty and tranquility were exactly what the two of us were after. The house was well-furnished (including sharp knives!) with ample towels and kitchen gadgets. The provided beach chairs were actually comfortable! We used them almost daily (along with the small cooler - there is a big one too, big enough for family picnics.) In late November, we did have high winds, making swimming a bit risky, but the beach was beautiful. On any given day, we shared it with anywhere from 2 - 10 other people and a couple of dogs. Very peaceful.
You may want to take your own watershoes. While they are provided, they may not have your size (or may be a bit skanky for your liking.) I bought a pair and left them behind, so there is at least one new pair in the bin! My only "complaint" is that the interior lighting isn't very good, especially in the living room. I was trying to write Christmas cards in the evenings, and the light wasn't sufficient. So that meant star gazing, or a movie in the DVD play, a glass of wine, and early to bed.
This location is perfect for exploring the north shore ... we hiked the Napali Coast Trail, kayaked the Hanalei River and snorkeled in the bay, rented bikes from Kapaa Beach Shop and cycled along the shore, took a doors-off helicopter ride (Moana Loa Helicopters) - everything, yes everything, was fabulous .. and to then come back to our private beach and comfortable home - a fabulous vacation.
This was our third trip to Kauai and out of those three rentals, by far this was the best! The pictures on the website are exactly what we found to be true. The views from every corner of the house were breath taking! Washing dishes was enjoyable with the scent of tropical flowers, eating in the dining area was comfortable, and the view of the ocean while watching TV was awesome! We slept so well with the sound of the waves, the comfortable mattress, and with the view of the tung/groove of the ceiling, that it was hard at times to get up! The location was perfect for driving up North or driving South of the Island. We played golf, went on hikes, snorkled and actually took a couple of days and just stayed home all day enjoying the beach. We were sad the two weeks came to an end but we are looking forward to reserving this beautiful home again next year for our vacation. Thank you so much for sharing your home!!
My husband and I spent a blissful 6 nights at this amazing home. It was probably our 11th time to Hawaii and our 3rd or 4th time to Kauai. For the first time we didn't "tourist" around, but stayed put at this place that has it all. We slept in the amazingly cozy king-size bed, woke up to amazing views and sounds of the ocean and tropical birds, had breakfast and lunch at home, walked to the beach for the afternoon, and only went out for dinner. Really, you could just stay put the whole time and have a perfect Hawaiian vacation. Moloaa Beach is a magical place, hardly anyone there, though it isn't the best place for swimming or snorkeling. Still, you CAN swim and snorkel there, just be a bit cautious. The place has everything you need -- beach chairs and umbrella, fins, water shoes, I believe snorkels too (we brought our own snorkels), boogie boards. Be aware that all the houses on the bay are on stilts (because of tsunami danger I think), so you do have to walk up about 20 stairs to get to the house. Not wheelchair or disabled accessible. However, the downstairs apartment is only about 5-10 stairs up. This would be a perfect place for 2 couples, with the smaller downstairs apartment fully self-contained with a mini-kitchen and small deck as well. However, I think you can't see the ocean from downstairs. The place is also surrounded by beautiful jungle-like growth, well maintained. We definitely will be back. I'd love to stay in this house for a month!! It was hard to leave. We slept like babies, so relaxing. Thank you!
My wife and I were very satisfied with the location, setting, condition, and amenities of this property as we recently celebrated our 20th anniversary. The home had everything we needed and exceeded our expectations for peaceful solitude when we wanted to enjoy quality down-time and relaxation. At the same time, we kept a very active schedule visiting EVERY accessible part of the island (and beyond) and never felt we were too far away to do so conveniently. The home, its gardens, and Moloa'a Bay were always a pleasure to come home to after a day of adventure and fun. We would certainly stay here again if we get the chance to return to beautiful Kauai.
Moloaa Bay is a beautiful, secluded area 'away from the madding crowd'. Due to the fact that the road to the house is a long and winding (2 mile) country drive that finishes at a dead end, there is almost zero traffic. At night you can see a gazillion stars, and it is so quiet you can almost hear them twinkling. Stores and restaurants are within 20 minute drive in both directions (South and North). At nearby Princeville and Hanalei there are restaurants from the laid back walk-ins where the locals like to hang out to the sophisticated, haute cuisine. There are many excellent hiking trails on Kauai and even 'amusement park' type places; one with a zip line. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii.
The house is 2 stories with no interior stairway between upstairs and downstairs, so both bedrooms have privacy, but may not be convenient for families with small children who need to sleep close to their parents.
