'Absolutely breathtaking' are the only words to describe what you and your guests will typically experience on the short drive to this beautiful mountain home just minutes from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Located just 15 miles and halfway between downtown Reno and North Lake Tahoe at nearly 5,500 feet in elevation within the peaceful and secluded tree line of Mount Rose, the convenient location just off Mt. Rose Highway (Route 431) offers the absolute best in everything the area has to offer from one central and convenience location.

The home's half-acre plus lot is situated high among a beautiful national forest within the desirable Galena Forest Estates neighborhood, directly next to two of southwest Reno's most sought after neighborhoods, St. James Village and Montreux. The back of the property offers a large private deck with a hot tub and freestanding dry sauna and directly borders the Toiyabe National Forest. The natural setting creates an extremely tranquil and peaceful mountain ambiance from deep within the Sierra Nevadas. The natural high-desert landscape features numerous large pines, blue spruces, and other native desert and mountain vegetation as well as a small man-made pond in the front yard among the lush green lawn.

This ranch style home offers approximately 2,009 square feet of updated and modern indoor living space with 4 distinct bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in a nicely laid out floor plan. The master bedroom is located at the back (right) corner of the house with direct access to the back deck through a large sliding glass door. A bedroom at the front (right) corner of the house includes its own private balcony with a queen bed. The interior (right) bedroom in the main hallway includes a set of twin beds and is perfect for children or single adults. The fourth bedroom is semi-private and includes another queen bed situated just off the den on the opposite back (left) corner of the home. This room has its own sliding glass doors as well offering direct and convenient access to the back deck. This bedroom as well as the den can offer privacy from the remainder of the house via a heavy sliding pocket door conveniently situated between the kitchen and the den making it perfect for a small family or couple wishing to share the home with others while still maintaining some level of privacy within the common space. The cozy, semi-private den is just in front of this bedroom on the left front of the house and includes a large sectional couch with a natural wood-burning pellet stove for use during the cooler months as you watch movies on the 50' flat panel television with cable and DVR service.

The fairly open concept main living area consists of the kitchen, dining area, and main living room and is perfectly situated directly in the center of the home with direct access to the back deck. Most of this area is open and features beautiful vaulted ceilings with plenty of natural sunlight entering from the many windows and skylights. A small bar with bar stool seating for three generally separates the kitchen from the dining area while still offering plenty of space and openness within the area. The well-appointed kitchen features granite countertops and stainless steel appliances perfect for the chef in the group. High-end stainless steel cookware by Wolfgang Puck include all of the pots and pans you could ever need to prepare any gourmet meal, even including a wok! Enjoy many of the other small kitchen appliances such as a toaster, coffee/tea maker, deep frier, fondue set, blender, and hand mixer. Dinnerware and glassware is abundant as well so you can enjoy your glass of champagne from a champagne glass, red wine from a red wine glass, or your margarita from a margarita glass. A complete set of plastic dinnerware is also available for use outside on the peaceful deck during a relaxing summer evening barbeque.

The dining room has a large square table with seating up to 8, plus an addition 3-4 at the bar directly behind. Enjoy meals and conversations together as a family or large group, and play any number of games or enjoy a bottle of wine from this convenient setting.

Step down into the living room where the gas fireplace sits within a beautiful river rock setting to create a natural feeling of warmth and coziness. The large 7-piece modular sofa can comfortably accommodate as many of 6-8 people while watching the 50' high definition flat panel TV or DVD, or while the "kids" play games around the large 4'x4' marble coffee table.

Each bedroom includes clean, brand-name mattresses (including mattress protectors and mattress liners) all of which were recently purchased from a high-end retailer and used only over a short period of time. Bed linens and towels are plentiful and of high quality, name brand 100% cotton varieties. Each bed has its own down (or down alternative) comforter, 100% cotton duvet, comfortable pillows (with pillow protectors), and an optional, extra bed blanket for every bed for those colder nights. A Pack-N-Play for infants is also available for use during your stay, if needed.

The linen closet contains numerous sets of new, high quality 100% cotton designer towel sets (bath, hand, and wash) as well as extra bed linens for each of the beds, if needed. Two portable, queen-size inflatable Aero mattress (along with linens and pillows) is also available from the linen closet.

Each full bathroom has its own toilet and shower/tub. The master bathroom is 'en suite' to the master bedroom with a double vanity and its own skylight and large soaker tub while the guest bathroom is conveniently situated between the master bedroom and front (right) bedroom near the interior (right) bedroom as well.

The home was recently renovated in Spring 2013 with the installation of all new, 3" recessed lighting throughout, a new designer dining room light fixture, new sleek modern ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms, 12 new interior door (including beautiful polished chrome hardware), and fresh paint throughout. Create any mood in the house using the electronic, dimmable control panels for all of the lighting throughout the home.

The home is heated using a new, high-efficiency furnace (propane) supplemented by the wood-burning pellet stove located in the den, as appropriate. An abundance of wood pellets are provided for guests to use during their stay and are easily loaded into the stove to instantly create a natural fireplace setting. The automatic blower provides a comforting blanket of warmth and coziness on those cold nights in the mountains.

This home and the surrounding area is a truly unique paradise enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and families of all types. Year-round activities include world-famous snow skiing and snowboarding, hiking and backpacking, camping, mountain biking, and rafting and kayaking. The high desert region offers four distinct seasons. The summer season is best to enjoy the many breathtaking beaches around Lake Tahoe where temperatures typically reach high into the 70s and 80s with lows into the 50s and 60s with constant mountain breezes and no humidity (or bugs!). The winter season offers world-class skiing and snowboarding at more than a dozen world-class resorts as well as snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snow-shoeing. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is the area's favorite ski resort for many locals and easily accessible by a very quick 10-15 minute drive up Mount Rose.

After a long day, come home and relax with a nice glass of wine while soaking in the outdoor hot tub or unwind in the dry sauna as the snow falls peacefully around you. Even though the outside temperatures can reach well into the 80s and low 90s during the summer afternoons, the hot tub and sauna can be enjoyed year round when temperatures typically drop into the 50s and 60s at night given the higher elevation. Temperatures can drop as much as 10-15 degrees in minutes traveling from downtown Reno as you climb in elevation. And since Reno is located in a high desert environment, there is virtually no humidity during the summertime making an afternoon or evening out on the private deck under the umbrella or napping in the sun on one of the lounge chairs while taking in the natural beauty of the mountain surroundings both memorable and extremely enjoyable.

Lake Tahoe runs 22 miles long by 12 miles wide and offers 72 miles of shoreline. The sun shines at Lake Tahoe during 75% of the year, or 274 days. At lake level, annual snowfall averages 125 inches, however at alpine skiing elevations, the snowfall averages 300 to 500 inches each year. Lake Tahoe never freezes and is the highest lake of its size in the United States and the largest alpine lake in North America. Lake Tahoe’s water is 99.9% pure, and the water is so clear that a 10 inch white dinner plate would be visible at 75 feet below the surface.

About Kevin Bierly

Originally from the east, I purchased this home in 2010 after spending just 20 days in the area on 2 separate visits to see a longtime family friend who lived a few miles from the house. Never having lived in the west, there was something about the natural beauty and tranquility of the area that instantly spoke to me. As a kid, I had always dreamed of owning a home in the mountains with the anticipation and excitement of big winter storms. This dream coupled with my love for skiing, I was fortunate to purchase the home several years ago with the expectation of maintaining a second residence given my travel and flexibility I have for work.

After a couple years commuting back and forth from the east for work nearly 3 weekends a month, the tolls of so much travel were having an effect on me. I came to the sad realization that it was no longer possible to spend as much time here as I had originally hoped. I considered selling the property but there was just something about the area and the peacefulness of the home that told me I had to keep it. As a business professional and rental property owner all of my adult life, I decided I could still enjoy the best of both worlds by offering my home to guests while I wasn't able to enjoy it myself while helping offset the cost of ownership.

And nearly 2 years later, I couldn't be happier. Not only have I been able to continue to enjoy the home on a slightly less frequent basis, I've also been able to share my home and many of the same great experiences with other guests. I've been very blessed and fortunate in finding guests who not only appreciate and enjoy the home and the great location as much as I do, but I have found that they have taken great care in treating my home as their own. The overall quality and cleanliness of the home has not suffered whatsoever.

So with only myself, a cleaning lady, and a maintenance guy, I'm able to offer my home to you in hopes that you too will experience the same joys during your stay.

Expectations Met!!!

We've rented many homes and have never seen one met our expectations until this one! We went up for my parent's 50th Anniversary, so we wanted everything perfect. We weren't disappointed. The home was clean, well stocked, in a great location and made a memorable weekend even better. The sauna & hot tub were a great hit with the whole family. Our extended family ages 5-63 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely and immaculate home in a great location for Tahoe and Reno activities. The hot tub and dry spa were especially enjoyed after our ski days! We enjoyed hiking as well right out the back door! The owner is very proactive and takes very high pride of ownership in his lovely home and it shows throughout. We would definitely stay at this home again and highly recommend it for all ages. The layout is especially nice with the "4th" bedroom very private and works well for an "extra" guest.

Great experience in the woods with easy access to skiing and the action in Reno

I have nothing but great things to say about the house and the owner. The house has two very comfortable living spaces, two big screen HDTVs with DVR, and a well stocked kitchen. Then there are the hot tub and sauna outside...not to mention hiking/mountain biking/snow shoeing trails literally leaving from the back deck. The owner was proactive in supplying all the linens, sometimes in duplicate, for our sleeping, bathing and hot tubbing pleasure! He continues to invest in the property and it shows.

Highly recommended and we hope to stay again!

Perfect location, gorgeous cabin, great amenities & customer service

We loved our stay here! The cabin is gorgeous. Great location. The beds were comfy, kitchen was well-stocked and we really enjoyed the fireplace and hot tub. There is a wonderful walking trail about 2 minutes from the house which we took advantage of every day (1.5 hour loop, about 4 miles total). Lots of towels and blankets for all of our guests. Sugarbowl and Squaw are about 1 hour away. Mount Rose is 10-15 minutes.

Property owner Kevin is one of a kind! This is what made our stay even better. He is so responsive and detailed, which really helped us in planning. He left a hand-written note for us upon arrival and a bottle of wine. He went above and beyond to pre-answer any questions we'd have about using the amenities in the home. It was much appreciated! We also had a few questions for him while there, and he got back to us right away. So helpful!

To note: There are 4 bedrooms, 2 baths. 1 of the bathrooms is on suite of the master, so really there is only 1 bathroom to share between 3 bedrooms unless you want ppl walking through the master to share that one. Just keep that in mind when planning!

Family Thanksgiving Getaway.

My husband and I live in North Dakota and our kids live in California. We chose to stay in Reno for Thanksgiving to meet with them and our family. My son and his girlfriend along with my daughter and her friend stayed together at the Joy Lake Road house. Its was beautiful. Open floor plan with allot of room to cook and enjoy each others company. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. Very comfortable beds, living room and family room with pellet stove for warmth on cold winter nights. Our kids had fun in the hot tub at night. There is a hiking trail nearby that we all enjoyed. I especially love the pine trees surrounding the house. I could not have asked for a more wonderful home or host. Thank You Kevin for sharing your home with us.
