The Loone's Nest is a spacious, 3000SF, open concept 5br/3ba home with lake views from the garage-top deck, two houses away from beach access, pet friendly, and ample outdoor space. 5 bedrooms (3 queen, 2 full) bedrooms and 3 baths offer plenty of space to accommodate up to 10 adults, and a large open kitchen/living room complete with real wood-burning fireplace. Enjoy the covered porch with swing perfect for morning coffee. The house is fully stocked with linens & bedsheets all made for your arrival, towels, dishes, pots & pans, and everything you need to whip up your meals. We have two HDTVs with DVRs in the two common areas and another TV in the Master bedroom. We have cable with HBO, local channels and many more.
We purchased the house in 2013 after falling in love with the Miller Beach Area. As Chicago residents we appreciate both the proximity to the city, and the small beach community atmosphere.

This property offers the best of all worlds, a garage-top deck for enjoying the view, a fireplace for cooler nights, and plenty of communal space while still offering ample private bedrooms.
This property's proximity to the beach is a definite attribute, as well as the small touches such as a porch swing, working fireplace, and modern layout and decor.
My fiancé (now husband) and I rented this home because we were getting married at nearby Marquette Park Pavilion . We both felt that it was a more reasonable option than booking multiple hotel rooms for all of the bridesmaids and ourselves for our wedding day festivities. We were also less than 5 minutes away from the venue, because there really isn't any decent hotels nearby. The Loon's Nest was able to comfortably host 4 aggressive Bridesmaids, 1 extremely patient Maid of Honor, 1 pretty little Flower Girl, 1 very handsome Ring Bearer, 1 emotional Bride and 1 very adorable shih tzu. The distinguished Groom stayed the evening of the wedding. We had space to roam. The home itself is beautiful and literally a block away from the lake. Everyone loved the home, the layout and raved about the location. There was a slight island feel throughout the community. The only setback about the home is the neighbor across the street. The limo had arrived on the day of the wedding and was blocking the neighbor. He was able to move out of her way, but that wasn't without a few choice words from her. I would totally recommend this home and look forward to this being our yearly anniversary rendezvous.
This was a very 'cool' place to stay. The pictures were spot on! The outlet to the beach was literally right there...we were able to run back as often as we needed. The house had everything you could need (but bring your own plastic for food at the beach!). With the beautifully decorated rooms, everyone was able to have their own. I just loved the artwork throughout the house. Everyone around us was extremely friendly. We love to spend the days on the beach and nights out to eat. We spent on rainy day at the outlet mall that is minutes away. I would highly recommend this place and hope to come back again! Probably one of the best VRBO rentals in Miller Beach we have stayed. Thank you!
We came to the Gary area to shoot a film and rented this house while we were working in the area. Our stay lasted about 2 weeks so we really got to great a feel of the house. Our contact for the listing was super on top of responses, even when he was traveling out of the country. The place was perfect for a large group with bedrooms on multiple levels and a really great kitchen. It was still chilly when we were staying there, but I can see how great it would be in warmer months in particular, as it is less than a block from the beach. We had a great stay!
We really, really enjoyed our time at the beach house!!! Our first night there, even before unpacking, we went down to the beach. Even though it was cold, we really enjoyed watching the sunset on the beach. It was gorgeous, and amazingly, we were able to see the Chicago skyline in the distance! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook, including a blender to make smoothies!!!
The only criticisms I have are minor: It was hard to get the fireplace going, especially because we could not find any matches in the house. But, we used the gas stove, and with a lot of tries, we were finally able to get a good fire burning. Just a suggestion: it would be a good idea to have matches somewhere nearby the fireplace.
Also, on the website it says that are 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. However, the weekend we stayed there, there were only 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The basement was under construction, so that could be the reason there were less bedrooms and bathrooms available. However, the three bedrooms were lovely and accommodated us six ladies quite well. The living room was also very spacious and comfy.
We played games and watched movies most of the weekend. Though we brought our own games and movies, the house provided plenty. During the evening time, we went to the beach, around sunset time, and enjoyed the skyline and frozen sand.
Overall, it was a weekend of great relaxation! We have attached some pictures of our time in the house and on the beach. Enjoy!
We rented this house to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday with some friends with a relaxing weekend away from the city. Being only 45 minutes from Chicago, the location was perfect: easy enough to reach even for just a few hours (for friends who couldn't stay long), but nestled in the small Miller Beach community for that special "getaway" feeling.
The house is really nice and comfortable, everything looks new. Being winter we couldn't enjoy the backyard or the sun deck much, but the living area is very spacious and it comfortably fit our group of about 10 for dinner. The lake is a block away and we enjoyed a nice walk on a snow-covered beach - and the fireplace was perfect to warm up afterwards! The only minor disappointment was that the jetted tub's drain plug wouldn't hold the water, making it impossible to take a nice long bath (or maybe we couldn't figure out how to seal it?).
The owner was very friendly and responsive, and worked with us to accommodate our requests. Extra bonus: they allow pets so we brought our cat!
Everyone had a great time and loved the house. Definitely recommended!
My mother and my friend and I came to stay at the Dunes for the first time. I did a lot of research and pricing and settled on Miller Beach - proximity to amenities, access to beach without climbing or stairs for Mom.
As soon as we pulled up we knew we would have a great time- the back porch is very inviting and you can hear the water and see the deck above that overlooks it. The house was fantastic - neat and well appointed with a great layout. Kitchen and communal space are on the water side and quiet, cozy bedrooms are on the opposite side. Good for early risers who want to make coffee and chat while others sleep in!
Stock up at Miller Beach Market Place and get your morning coffee at the funky Marquette Perk Coffee House/Thrive Acupuncture/Stained Glass shop (Try the blended Kona Mocha).
Even though the National Lakeshore was closed in parts due to the Gov't shutdown, it never kept us from the beach, Marquette Park or all the wonderful towns heading north. All the more reason to come back and stay again. And, bring my pups!
Jetted tub in the master- used twice on chilly nights
What we missed (but would like to do next time):
*Lower bricked, vine covered, towering tree shaded patio-lovely! It would be cool at a warmer time of year
*The fireplace and games- although we had some chilly nights, we played so hard that we were too tired to light a fire and settle in for games
Other places up the beach we loved:
*Bartlett's Gourmet Grill & Tavern, Beverly Shores
*Chelle’s in Chesterton -lovely boutique, the owner saw us and opened up on her day off!
*Lake Street Gallery in Gary - awesome local art
*Indie Indie Bang Bang - don't ask, just go.
*Michigan Thyme in New Buffalo -- so fun! so much to see!
And don't forget to head down to the beach a bit before sunset -- just breathtaking.
Sarah and Ray- one suggestion: more pictures :) Thank you so much for the hospitality and the great communication! We shall return!
