Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Stroud - Upper Lodge

Comfortable self-catering cottage - sleeps two. Not suitable for children.

The Lodge is a perfect romantic hideaway for couples, although there is room for a cot if required, and we do allow babies but not toddlers or older children. Set in delightful surroundings on the outskirts of Stroud, overlooking a valley which has nature reserve status, this is a charming grade 11 listed detached lodge with a wealth of period features. Secluded, but with easy access to Stroud, the cottage has a garden with a private patio, and plenty of off-road parking space.

Upper Lodge is fully equipped and furnished, with a log burner in the spacious lounge, as well as gas central heating throughout. The comfortable kitchen/diner has a gas cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer, and French doors opening onto the private patio which is a wonderful sun trap, complete with garden furniture and a barbecue. The bedroom is equipped with a luxurious king sized bed which ensures a great night’s sleep.

This lovely little castle provides an ideal base from which to explore the Cotswolds or just to hide away and relax.

Directions: Upper Lodge is on the outskirts of Stroud, a mile from the train station.

There is easy access to Stroud from Junction 13 on the M5.

Stroud is just 90 mins by train from London Paddington direct.

If you are coming to stay with us from overseas there is a coach service from Stroud to Heathrow return up to five times a day.

General information: We will always ensure that there is a fresh pint of milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine to welcome our visitors.

There is a wide range of shops in Stroud which is a short walk from the Lodge, including Waitrose. There are a number of pubs, restaurants and hotels for dining out, and also a great variety of takeaways.

Lettings: By popular request, we do not insist on any particular day of the week to start your holiday. Bookings for longer or shorter stays are also available by arrangement.

We ask that you arrive any time after 3pm on your day of arrival and depart by 11am on your final day. Earlier arrival or later departure may be available but only by prior agreement.

Unfortunately no pets or animals of any type are permitted on the premises, and smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the cottage.

Under no circumstances may the maximum number of persons occupying the property exceed 2 adults. The property is not suitable for toddlers and children, although we do allow babies by prior arrangement.

Linen and towels are provided. There is also a selection of books, games and maps for our visitors to use.

There is so much to do and see in the local area - we have a selection of books and brochures, and there is a tourist information office in Stroud.

If you have any special requirements please ask - we are very flexible and will do our utmost to meet your requirements.

About Lesley

Lesley and Georgina jointly own the property. We met when our daughters were at primary school and have been friends ever since. We purchased this between us as we had always wanted to have a joint project, and the building is so lovely we felt lots of people would want to come and stay here. So far we've been proved right, and the cottage has been very busy since we started letting it as a holiday home.

We live near each other, about half an hour from the cottage, so if any problems arise one of us will be able to get there fairly quickly. We love to meet our guests, or at least speak to them on the telephone. It's really great being in contact with people from all over the world who come to stay in our little castle.

Lesley purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Lesley chose Stroud

It's quirky, it's a little castle, it's in a wonderful location. The Cotswolds are great and we often explore them. There's a different view at every corner and it's wonderful watching the seasons change throughout the year. Stroud is great all year round - there's so much going on there, and we were so pleased this place came on the market.

What makes this cottage unique

It's a little castle, it's pretty, it's different. Whether you're sunbathing on the patio on a summer afternoon or cosying up in front of the fire on a winter's night, it's a fantastic place to be.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We've had such a lovely week over Christmas here - Thank you for the lovely touches to the lodge - the tree and decorations are wonderful and have helped to make our time here festive and welcoming.

We'll really miss the fireplace and beautiful comfortable bed.

Such a treat to stay here - Thank you Very much!

Lovely little castle in Stroud!

  • 4 out of 5
This is a unique and lovely little 'castle' about one mile outside the centre of Stroud. Lovely sitting room, very nicely equipped kitchen, a small patio, a good bathroom and a good sized bedroom with a nice comfy bed.

You can walk through the beautiful churchyard next door down to the canal, and then along into Stroud, which is a lovely little town (check out the Made in Stroud shop)

Very peaceful and all the amenities you can ask for. Small but perfectly formed!
