Beauty and tranquillity off the beaten track.
El Nogal is a secluded, tranquil and comfortable casita surrounded by cherry orchards in a magnificent mountain setting with striking views over the village of Torres and to the plain of the Guadalquivir beyond. The property is well maintained and well appointed with tended garden, swimming pool, small but fully equipped kitchen and a wood burning stove (though no WiFi access at the time of our stay). The friendly support provided by the owners, Juana and Jesus, could not be better. There is plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities and local walks range from easy strolls to challenging mountain ascents (the range of la Magina, the highest and most isolated mountain in north east Andalucia, rises directly behind the property). There are lively bars and restaurants in Torres and Mancha Real while the large city of Jaen, within easy striking distance, has all modern facilities. The drive from Torres through the mountain pass to the beautiful village of Albanchez is a stimulating experience and at least one visit to the peerless twin renaissance towns of Ubeda and Baeza is mandatory. A day trip to the Mezquita at Cordoba or the Alhambra at Granada can be easily achieved. There is very little English spoken in the surrounding district but, while a passing acquaintance with Spanish would be useful, local people are invariably friendly and helpful and communication should not be a significant problem for Anglophones. Despite intermittently unseasonable weather (a heavy snowfall at the beginning of May!) Juana & Jesus immediately sorted out any problems and we hugely enjoyed our stay. For a holiday well away from the beaten track, El Nogal receives our highest recommendation.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for your comments about the Villa and the area, we really appreciate them! We are also really happy to know that you enjoyed your stay in Villa El Nogal (in spite of the unexpected snowfall in May!). We hope to see you soon. Best regards from Juana & Jesús.
