My husband and I and our 19 month old son, stayed at Villa Klio for 10 days in early April and would highly recommend it. A beautifully designed and maintained villa, with views of both the wonderful western cretan hills full of olive groves, and also the sea. In the evenings there is a wonderful smell of all the surrounding flowers and shrubs, very meditteranean and delicious!
The villa lies in a sweet little village called Sfinari, which consists of a few small shops and some tavernas. A lovely 10 minute walk downhill through the lower part of the village, past little houses, olive and lemon groves and vegetable patches, takes you to the local beach which also has 3 or 4 small sleepy tavernas. We really liked Sfinair, and it felt like 'real Crete'-children playing ball in the road, a few old ladies in black chatting away, an old boy making his own honey, a speciality round the area.
Its a great location where you are about midpoint between the beautiful beach of Elafonisi-an hours drive through wonderfully wild mountains, Kissamos, the local town, about 20 minutes away, and the venetian fortress town of Hania, about an hour away.
The villas itself is well stocked-washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, cooker and hob, AC and all the utensils you will need. The rooms are really lovely, new and modern and very clean, but designed with the traditional cretan style in mind. Bedrooms are cosy, but in April we would have liked a few more blankets. The downstairs is a lovely open plan kitchen/living/diner area and we were very happy there in the evenings, as well as the outdoor space which on 2 levels is beautifully maintained and spacious. The pool is not heated so in early April was quite chilly but I imagine in mid-Summer its fine.
The owner Vassilis dropped round a few times to settle us in and see if we needed anything, and was very friendly and hospitable. His mother-in law lives in a house nearby so was helpful when we were settling in.
Overall, a lovely, relaxing stay where our family could have nice times together.
