Seagull cottage has been comfortably furnished to provide a second home for us but we enjoy sharing this delightful property. The cottage’s main attraction is the proximity to the sea. Few cottages can offer a beach as the garden! There is shingle beach, swimming and water sports are a highlight. For those who enjoy land-based activity the high street has a bike hire shop and the promenade is a jogger or walkers delight. The Saga building also has a large play park for children. Alternatively just lay back in the deck chairs in the sun trap patio. There is a small convenience shop in the high street but large supermarkets are available in Folkestone although Hythe offers a much more relaxed shopping opportunity and a Waitrose.
We have stayed in this cottage two times now and have been very happy with both stays. The first time during the winter and the second during the early summer months. I felt very comfortable there as the cottage has a lovely cosy feel to it with fantastic sea views. It has everything you need to cook a meal indoors, and to sit inside or outside, listening to the sound of the ocean either way. Its very convenient to all of Sandgate's facilities. Good pubs and restaurants are all within walking distance.
We can just confirm the reviews of previous guests.
We spent a most wonderful beach holiday at this cottage and wish we could stay longer.
It is tastefully furnished, clean and cosy. You have a wonderful sea view from almost every room. It is directly at the beach with clean water and refreshing sea breeze.
We were very lucky with the weather and had sunny warm days, but we can imagine you can enjoy the stay in any weather, since there are two very comfortable sofas, a chair and dining area.
Very nice restaurants and pubs are in walking distance.
We, also our teenagers, loved this cottage and would love to stay here again.
What a wonderful, cosy, comfortable cottage. We stayed a week and wished we could stay longer. Easy access to shops, restaurants and bars. We ate out at Escodido the mexican restaurant just 1 min walk from cottage, and had an excellent meal with great service. The cottage has been well maintained and we would recommend this property to everyone.
Seagull Cottage was enthusiatically recommended to me by relatives and close friends who had already had the good fortune to have stayed in this delightful cottage.
It is one of those places you immediately feel at home in as you walk through the front door. Wonderfully maintained and equipped with everything you need, there is not much else to do but relax and thoroughly enjoy yourself. The bed was superbly comfortable and falling asleep with the window open and the sound of the waves on the shingle was always something to look forward to.
The owners, John and Della, have ensured that all the comforts of home are well maintained and of good quality and the cottage itself is in excellent condition and very quiet with little or no noise from outside. Fast broadband is available for those who 'can't stay away' and there is TV and videos as well as toys for children.
A perfect location with Waitrose and Sainsbury's a short distance away as well as several good restaurants and pubs which you can either walk to or take a quick drive. Walking along the seafront - just a quick step over the seawall - is a perfect way to enjoy the scenery and take in the fresh air.
Do I have any complaints? Where did my three weeks of relaxing and comfortable pleasure go. I most certainly envy those who will be staying in Seagull Cottage and I am sure they will be wishing they could have stayed longer.
A really fabulous spot, stayinging in a cottage with shedloads of character.
John and Della were very welcoming and made sure that we had settled in ok. Nice to have all the exta little touches.....bed linen, towels etc.
A really cosy cottage which had everything we needed to make our holiday that little bit more enjoyable.
We were blessed with a period of exceptional English weather at the end of September, and enjoyed many meals out on the patio, with the sound of the waves lapping in the background!
We all had a really enjoyable holiday, and look forward to returning next year.
Seagull cottage is a really lovely, cosy cottage with very nice decor, a really well appointed kitchen and brilliant views of the sea. It was like having your own little house by the sea (except much cleaner and tidier!) Della and John were very nice and friendly. We appreciated the little touches they made, like leaving the heating on for us so it was warm when we arrived and putting out teabags, milk and biscuits.
The back garden to the cottage is just off the beach - we had several very pleasant strolls along the pebble beach at Sandgate - the houses along the seafront are very chic around there! Was too cold to swim when we were there but hope to come again to try the water! Recommend the little cafe attached to a bicycle shop on the high st in Sandgate (where you can hire bikes), also a very nice pub called the Coastguard in St. Marys at Cliffe near Dover.
Look forward to visit again another time, although hesitant to write such a good review in case the cottage becomes continually booked up!
Victorian Coastguard cottage, direct beach access, sleeps 4, Sandgate.
Seagull cottage is a delightful terraced cottage with uninterrupted views of the channel and across to France.
A private patio leads to the causeway and then directly to the beach. The high street has a range of delightful eating opportunities from tapas to traditional fish and chips along with art galleries and antique shops to explore. Close by Hythe offers a lovely working miniature steam railway which ferries you across Romney Marsh to Dungeness and the RSPB sanctuary.

For those considering visiting London there is a high speed train service from Folkestone (10 mins away) with a journey time of around 55 min.
