The large kitchenette is well supplied with stay at home cooking in mind. All the most amazing north shore beaches as well as the famous Kalalau Trail are mere minutes away and if you want to feel a little adventurous you can walk to the river for an evening dip in the jungle swimming hole. Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Dawn, I couldn't find a spot on the VRBO link to enter a review so I shall just enter here.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sea Turtle. We arrived late at night after a long travel day and fell into the WONDERFUL bed without knowing what to expect in the morning. It rained all night--that glorious jungle rain. Imagine our delight to wake up to bird calls and the spectacular view of the mountains embellished with our first of many rainbows. We appreciated the zen-like simplicity of the Sea Turtle's hexagonal structure, the peace of the jungle, the joy of showering under the waterfall showerhead while viewing the mountains and jungle wilds, and the glory of breakfast on the lanai.

Although I would have appreciated some standard amenities like towel bars to hang up wet towels, a robe hook, and an attached soap dish in the shower, we had everything we needed. The location was beautiful and convenient to Hanalei, ( 10-15 minutes by car) and the west end beaches,. The short jaunt to the Bay Colony Coffee shop was also a treat.

Thank you for creating such a delightful retreat for us.

** you made a brilliant investment in the bed! We usually have back pain when we sleep in hotel beds, Mike wants me to ask you the brand name and model of the mattress and springs. **

Beautiful and cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Sea Turtle Cottage for a week and it was a perfect place to start and end each day on our first trip to Kauai. Really comfy bed, great cooking facilities and a gorgeous view from the lanai. The cottage is well situated for exploring the north of the island, as you're within short driving distance of a number of great beaches (including Hanalei Bay and Tunnels), and also close to the start of the Kalalau trail. The dirt road to the cottage is pretty rough and gets muddy when it rains, so we were happy that we rented an SUV to get around while on the island. I would definitely recommend this cottage to those looking for a quiet, tranquil place to stay while exploring the island!

PEACEFUL, PRIVATE AND ROMANTIC

  • 5 of 5

Even though my husband and I have been married for nearly 39 years this delightful little cottage perched high in the middle of the jungle was a perfect place to bring a touch of romance to our vacation. The morning sounds of the birds and the jungle coming to life are wonderful. So much beauty to just sit and enjoy. The outdoor shower is amazing and the the wrap around lanai is a perfect place to drink your morning coffee. The bed is very comfortable and the sea turtle cottage is equipped with everything you will need. Dawn is a very friendly and helpful host and really makes you feel welcome to ask for help if you need it. We highly recommend this as a vacation getaway.

A hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed four nights at the sea turtle cottage during our trip to Kauai. It was absolutely magical. We loved waking up to sound of tropical birds singing in the trees, sipping fresh hot kona coffee out on the lanai overlooking the rainforest. We were a quick 10 min drive from the Napali coast, where we enjoyed some of the most scenic hiking we've ever experienced. Dawn, the owner, was great and made sure our stay was comfortable. The cottage has a lot of updated and new amenities, so cooking is not a problem. Of course, one of the best features is the rustic (but modern) outdoor shower just off the lanai. Overall, it was an incredible vacation, and we will definitely look forward to coming back!

Private Romantic Stay

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved Hanalei and staying at the secluded and peaceful Sea Turtle Cottage was a perfect start and ending to our days. The patio is private with a view of the beautiful rainforest and birds. There is an updated outdoor shower and bathroom area. In this open air cottage, we were able to get an amazing feel of Kauai. We would definitely stay here again! :)

Honeymoon in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose to spend the first half of our honeymoon on Kauai, and this little cottage served as the perfect "home base" during our stay. It was very clean and had all of the necessary amenities (towels, utensils, etc). The best part of this unit is its location... Right smack dab in the middle of the jungle, with one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. This was the perfect spot for our honeymoon, because it was quiet, peaceful, and secluded. Although there was another unit being rented out next-door at the same time, we felt as if we were the only ones around!

Because it was just our luck, we happened to arrive in Kauai as Hurricane Ana was coming through to wreak havoc. This didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves! The weather was beautiful up until the very last day, and we were able to catch a flight OVER the hurricane to Maui. Whew. Talk about a crazy flight, but perfect timing.

While on Kauai, we hiked the Na Pali coast (A MUST!), ate sushi burritos at Sushi Girl (right at the end of the road), watched the sunset from numerous locations, swam in the crystal clear water, explored several "secret" secluded beaches (which there are many of!), and soaked up as much of the Hawaiian sun as possible. We loved Maui, but Kauai is a true gem. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. We will definitely be back!

I will note that the cottage is at the end of a long dirt rode (with numerous potholes). At first, we were afraid our little rental car wouldn't make it. But after the second or third time driving the stretch, it was as if we had been doing that our whole lives. Just try to arrive before dark! That way, you can see where you're going on the road and enjoy the amazing view as much as possible.

Thank you so much to Dawn for sharing this amazing piece of paradise with us! We can't wait to come back!

Best little studio

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for our 10th anniversary. We loved the big and super comfortable bed, the outdoor bathroom and the beautiful views. We loved coming back to the Sea Turtle after a day exploring the island. Would stay again in a heartbeat!
