About Heinz Hohendorf

we are originally from Hamburg/Essen Germany. We lived for 37 years in the State of Washington. After retirement we needed more sunshine and found our little paradise in the little 'cosmopolitan' town of Tubac.

My husband's hobby is a garden train. And he will let you play with it !

We do love meeting people.

Heinz Hohendorf purchased this bungalow in 2005

Why Heinz Hohendorf chose Tubac

We chose this town after coming for four years in spring, enjoying the sunshine and wonderful climate and flowers, but especially meeting the wonderful people of Tubac.

What makes this bungalow unique

Watching sunsets from the roof top with a drink, we say

'When the mountains turn pink, it's time for a drink'.

Sitting in the spa at night and watching the stars or even meteors. There is also a G-scale garden railway.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tubac is a special place in the Sonoran desert about 45 miles south of Tucson AZ. Gracious and friendly people, shops that offer unique products from elegant mesquite furniture to distinctive southwestern art. The best way to experience Tubac is to stay in the casita offered by Heinz and Gisela. Located just a few minutes from shopping and dining, the casita offers visitors comfortable, quiet and cozy accommodations that invite you to relax and recharge. We have stayed in the casita many times during our visits to Tubac and had the opportunity to meet people on our morning walks and marvel at the inspiring views of shadows drifting across mountain slopes. The casita is beautifully appointed and private as well. After shopping in Tubac, return to your casita and take a refreshing dip in the pool!

Tubac fans from Colorado

The listing described the location quite accurately. My only concern in booking was whether there would be excessive noise from the interstate which is between the location and the town itself. The sound of traffic could be heard while walking my dog in the neighborhood but we did not even hear anything while at the casita.

The casita met or exceeded all our expectations from the listing description and photos. We were considering having a third person stay with us but she cancelled out. We concluded that the casita was a bit small for a third person and would not have allowed for much privacy for them. It's perfect for a couple however.

The casita was very clean, well-maintained and the owners were very friendly and informative and gave just the right amount of attention (exceeded our expectations).

We highly recommend this property for the below purposes. We have been making annual visits to Tubac for a number of years now and love the town with all of its shops, art galleries, and good restaurants. We also love the day trips for sightseeing, birding, hiking, and a bit of adventure (try Ruby Road as part of a circle trip when visiting Arivaca).

What excellent hosts and what wonderful accomodations. We would highly recommend this casita and highly recommend Tubac as well. Not only were Heinz and Gisela helpful but they went out of their way to make sure every need was met. Thank you to the both of them.

Wonderful opportunity to learn early Arizona history and the important role Tubac played.

The owners were the most gracious and helpful hosts; arranging a guided tour of the Presidio, escorting us to Mexico, sharing their lovely pool and gardens, and sharing a fascinating hobby of model trains. The casita was comfortable and well equipped. Attention birders: we were directed to Patagonia Lake State Park where we were treated to a rare vision of the Elegant Trogon! I do not want to put undue pressure on my lovely hosts but there was that early morning delivery of fresh squeezed orange juice! That season is over, so book for next February!

An Oasis In The Desert!

  • 5 out of 5
What a great place, both the Casita and Tubac! In both cases you want for nothing and can enjoy the sunrises and sunsets from your own private terrace or on the roof deck. Your hosts are affable and helpful and clearly enjoy their guests by making them feel at home. Given their long term experience in Tubac and the Southwest they are knowledgable about local activities, day trips, and out of the way restaurants where the locals eat.

The Tubac Golf and Country Club is an outstanding course created by Bing Crosby and his partners. The Club as well as the town still have an old world charm that says real people live here...not just tourists.

Yet you can be one if you like and enjoy the shops that cater to art, jewelry , ceramics and the worlds best kitchen store! After you have had the world's best pie next door!

And after a day in the sun return to your casita and take a dip in the pool!

Lovely place to stay in Tubac

  • 5 out of 5
My husband and I were supposed to spend a week at a friends' house in Tubac when we found out that their place had been flooded. We ended up staying at the Hohendorf's casita and it was a marvelous experience. The casita has one bedroom and a full kitchen. It is very quiet, clean and dust free. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom has a big walk-in shower, with lots of hot water. The satellite TV is great, as is the high-speed internet connection. There's a nice shady front porch to enjoy on warmer days and lots to do nearby - golf, hiking, biking etc. The Hohendorfs are very personable and generous without being overly chatty or intrusive. We highly recommend the casita and would stay in it again anytime.
