Both Jim and I grew up in the Chicago area and live in the City now.

My husband Jim has been traveling to the North Shore since he was boy and has great memories of his family vacations there.

My first trip to the North Shore was just after we were married 15 years ago. I fell in love with area immediately and never wanted our vacations to come to an end.

Becky purchased this house in 2012

We have been looking for the perfect house and piece of property ever since our first trip up together. Finally our dream came true this past year.

Growing up in, and living in Chicago now, we love the fact, that when at Twin Cedars we can't see our neighbors. That was very important to us.

We try to get to Twin Cedars every chance we get but in the mean time want to share this beautiful piece of the North Shore with you.

I remember very vividly my first glimpse of Lake Superior right from the driveway. As I walked down the gentle sloping path into the yard for the first time, I saw a cute little footbridge crossing over a seasonal creek. Not only did I have a beautiful, walkable, ledge rock shore stretching out in front of me but a babbling brook as well.

As I strolled up the small creek bed lined with stones and wild roses I realized we had a small Springtime waterfall located just off the deck. This is one of my husbands favorite things to enjoy while grilling.

Inside the house is all 'Knotty pine' that gives you that true 'Up North' feeling.

This is a 1960's custom built house with lots of fun interesting features. With the updated track lighting you can either do some fine needle work and reading or have a cozy family movie night.

Both the Family room and A-Frame have fantastic views of the lake. Just off the A-Fame are a few bird feeders rigged to attract a variety of different species and with windows all around being from floor to ceiling the bird watching can be exceptional. It sometimes feels like you are in your own tree house.

The Family room has a huge picture window that looks out over the deck and Lake Superior. You can see all the way to the Horizon here.

LOVED THIS PLACE!

  • 5 out of 5
We have stayed at a lot of VRBO properties and this is one of our favorites, if not the outright winner. The place is clean, comfortable and beautiful. The touches of hospitality are numerous and Becky is a joy to work with. We will definitely be back.

PEFECT FOR WEEKEND AT LUTSEN MOUNTAINS

  • 5 out of 5
This property worked out great for our group and 2 dogs. It is close to the ski hill (about a 5-8 minute drive) and has a beautiful view of the lake. It slept all of us comfortably. The kitchen is well stocked with plates, utensils and appliances, so we were able to bring up all of our meals and cook full breakfasts and dinners. There's even a playstation 3 (which can also play blu-rays, of course) to game on or watch movies. There is no internet or TV subscription, but we didn't mind.

We'd not hesitate to rent this property again for next year!

Owner's Response: Hi Mike,
Thanks for such a great review! I'm so glad you guys took full advantage of the kitchen and dining area.
Jim and I love that we don't have internet and so far the rest of our guests have either enjoyed a weekend without "screens" or if need be heading up to our favorite wifi café. I use my "no internet" excuse to go and enjoy some of Sonja's homemade artisan soups or fresh baked goods. Hope to see you and your group back next year it was a pleasure hosting your get away.

NEW YEAR'S EVE RETREAT!

New Year's Eve retreat!
  • 5 out of 5
We were looking for a ski get away over New Year's Eve to go with our 3 children, 2 of whom are in college.( sometimes to have quality family time.. you need to remove them from ones home:) From my first contact with Becky, she was so helpful and excited for us to stay at her place and have it be comfortable and fun for us and our dog. She explained different amenities at the cabin like crock pots so if you want to make a big pot of chili while out skiing, it would be ready when you get home. We wanted a place we could bring our cock a poo and you could tell from talking with Becky that dogs are part of the family too! They had towels for wiping feet, dog dishes, dog blankets and doggie bags available all around the property. The property is nice with privacy and we were able to snowshoe and enjoy the different animal tracks in the woods and all of it's natural beauty. The views from the cabin were amazing and the stars at night were beyond gorgeous! We were a short 3 miles to Lutsen for skiing ( the kids went 2 days even though it was -12 and one day went to Grand Marias for a little shopping which was about a 15 min drive. There is a hardware store and convenience store not far away in case you forgot something. The cabin was nice and clean and warm and inviting with a big kitchen table where we played a ton of games. There were plenty of blankets and towels to use during our stay. There was a TV for us to watch movies.. we just wish there was a couple more comfortable chairs or a couch for us to stretch out on. All and all we had an amazing time and didn't want to leave. Now we need to stay here in the summer or fall to enjoy the fire pit, hammock, and stream that are on their property.

Owner's Response: Hi Terri,
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. It sounds like you really took full advantage of all we have to offer. I'm so glad I could be of help.
It sounds like you all had a lot of fun either at the house or out and about.
I have been thinking about what you said about more places to "lounge" I agree. I did buy 2 extra comfy chairs that can be moved easily from room to room. (The red velvet ones) I am also thinking about a couple of bean bag chairs too.
Have a great rest of your winter and hopefully you can make an extra trip up this summer or fall.

AMAZING PROPERTY/THOUGHTFUL OWNERS

  • 5 out of 5
I hesitate to write this glowing review because I hope this place isn't difficult to book for my family twice a year. The owners have made available such a fantastic place in Lutsen that I hope they reap the rewards they deserve for providing such a lovely place to the public. Pictures do not do the interior justice, and there is no way you can describe the lakeshore property, you just have to see it and walk around on it. We rented this home right before Christmas. Snow fell most of the weekend and we were able to snowshoe around the property; it was absolutely beautiful. We used the fire pit outside to make hot chocolate and Smore's while our dog ran all around, happy as could be. The details inside the house make you feel like you're in a nice hotel, but better because it is a private home. The beds, blankets, sheets, and pillows were so soft and more comfortable than the ones we have at home. The owner Becky was the sweetest person I have ever rented from on VRBO!! Amazing personal touches from a caring couple! We have been renting places all over Lutsen for 35 years, but from now on we will always check this listing first!! Thank you so much for a memorable family getaway!

Owner's Response: Dear Stacey,
Wow!! Thank you for such a fantastic review. I'm speechless, and for those who know me that doesn't happen much. ;) I am so happy you and your family enjoyed your time away. I loved knowing that you still took advantage of the outdoor fire pit enjoying s'mores and hot cocoa in 20* weather!!
You were our first family that got to use our new indoor propane stove in the family room too. We had it installed just before your trip.
Thanks again for spending your family time with T.C. it's an honor to be a small part of your family's happy memories.

GREAT PLACE FOR DOGS AND A LARGE GROUP

  • 4 out of 5
We loved this place. There were four adults and one dog and we had plenty of room. My favorite part was the outdoor/back yard/lake area. There were tons of places to relax throughout the area, and so much to do. We hiked during the day and had lunch at the Angry Trout in Grand Marais (we ate outside in the sun and on the water, but the Fish & Chips weren't the best).

A WONDERFUL RETREAT

  • 5 out of 5
My husband and my daughters and son-in law spent a long weekend at Twin Cedars( except one is a Spruce) and had such a great time, the place was clean, comfortable cozy and felt like home, very welcoming. We just loved the outdoor space. it showed so much respect for the natural world and it felt lush and magical. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and pots and pans. We cooked all of our meals and had two wonderful fires at night, we would have had more but rain didn't allow. Becky and Jim were so easy to work with and gracious, we will be back with another entry in the guest book. MY dog Maddie loved walking thew rocky shore line and exploring the paths. I would highly recommend it.

In addition to fantastic scenery and bird watching right off the deck, there are miles of diverse hiking and biking trails that in the winter turn to cross country ski and snow mobile trails.

Just a 5 minute drive from the house is a beautiful water fall down an easy 300 foot path. Or you can choose from many other paths at the same location and take a moderate to more challenging hike and be gone for as long as you want. Many of the Superior Hiking Trail 'heads' are just a stones throw away.

For Downhill Skiers, we are just 2 miles from Beautiful Lutsen Mountain with beginner to Olympic style runs and for Golfers, Superior National Golf Course is 5 minutes away and offers exceptional views as you make your way from Tee to Tee.
