What a treat to have this cozy cabin as our home base while visiting Rushmore. It was centrally located to all the activities we planned. It was so nice to have the park in the back yard, be able to walk into downtown custer, and enjoyed the deck, fire pit, and grill. Tim and Dawn were very accommodating.

Custer Classic

Fantastic cabin in a quaint location just two blocks from downtown Custer. It felt like we were out of town once we crossed the stream that runs beside the property. We saw multiple deer stop for a drink.

The small park right outside the front door was a perfect fit for our family with three children under 10. The gas fire pit on the deck was also an added bonus. The cabin also had everything you would need to cook a family meal.

Home Away From Home

Excellent communication with owners from start to finish. Perfect location for all the tourist attractions. Owners paid attention to all the little details, very clean and comfortable. Loved how there was a binder with all the details of close stores, restaurants and things to do. Custer is a awesome little town with great food. The wifi that saved us as we did not have cell phone service (Sprint does not have towers in the area). Kids loved the park that was just out the front door and husband loved that there was cable for entertainment in the evening after our daily adventures. We have already told all of our friends and family that this is the place they need to stay if they travel to the Black Hills. As a first time user of VRBO and our excellent experience the bar has been set high by Dawn and Tim!!!

Great time!

  • 5 out of 5
We had a great experience at the cabin! The Hollands thought of everything we would need and the place was extremely clean and well kept. We loved the gas firepit on the deck and my kids loved having a park right in the front yard. The cabin was literally minutes from anything we wanted to see. We will be back!

cute little home

  • 5 out of 5
Dawn did a wonderful job with the house, it was very inviting and clean. A great home away from home! However the third room is very small more like a porch, we booked it thinking it was 3 full bedrooms...we would stay there again just not with all our kids due to the room!

Quaint Cabin

  • 3 out of 5
My husband and I stayed in this cabin. The main reason for giving this rental 3 stars was because of the service we received from the Hollands. Even though we paid promptly I practically had to beg them to give us the information we needed to access the property. I eventually felt the need to contact Home Away in hopes of spurring the Hollands on to give us the access information since we were about to leave on our trip. They caused a lot of unnecessary stress. The day before they were leaving on their own vacation they finally did send the information and started the correspondence with "I thought we better send you some information". No kidding! They also neglected to tell us the main road to their cabin was closed to traffic. Since we don't carry a GPS or mobile device we could find no alternative way to reach the house. Again causing us unnecessary stress. Fortunately the Hollands did give us a phone number to call if we had a problem so we were able to reach someone who was able to assist us. Thank God.
Since the cabin has only one small bathroom with a pedestal sink I feel that the place is only suitable for a family with small children or people who don't mind close quarters.
I would never consider staying in this cabin again because of the way we were treated by the Hollands.

Owner's Response: So sorry that you did not enjoy the cabin. My husband and I try very hard to make everyone's stay as pleasant as possible. We strive to do our best to ensure our clients have all the necessary information in reference to their stay. The construction is still going on and is inconvenient for everyone in the area.
