Since being built in 1880 numerous Senators, Congressmen, artists, and academics have all resided at what is now Hill Flats.
The building was previously used as a lecture hall and residence for scholars conducting research at the Library of Congress which is across the street.
Due to the buildings immediate proximity to national monuments, the National Park Service and Washington DC has designated Hill Flats a Historic building and has registered it under the Capitol Overlay and Fine Arts District. This designation ensures that all preservation is conducted under the direction of the Architect of the Capitol.
Hill Flats has been meticulously preserved while ensuring that it meets modern comforts.

The condo is located on the second floor of a Victorian home located just three blocks from the Library of Congress. Like most older homes, it has a few quirks. The electrical fuse box flipped a switch repeatedly. The bathroom door didn't latch properly and didn't contain a lock of any kind. The washer and dryer are in a dusty old basement. Still, the owner/manager was readily available by phone to answer questions, the amenities included a lovely remodeled kitchen, and the location could not be better. We would absolutely recommend it to friends.
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. We loved it. The location could not have been any better. We could walk to most anything and the metro stop wasn't too far away. We ended up taking the metro to a Safeway to get some food items--the corner grocery store didn't quite cut it for us. The unit was exactly how it appeared in pictures and was very clean. The building and neighborhood were very quiet. It was an unforgettable trip and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Used sofa bed and it was best one I've ever slept in. Good size for 2 adults and 2 children. A little short on bowls (only2). Would definitely recommend
My husband and I had a great stay here. It was close to the things we really wanted to see. The recommendations for restaurants we were given were really great. Only 2 very SMALL things kept this property from being 5 stars. The towel rack next to the shower fell off the wall. It just needs to be tightened or taken down since there are hooks in there that are better. The ceiling fan in the bedroom has no chain to turn off the light and keep the fan on. If you want the fan on, you have to have the light on too. I'd definitely stay here again though.
