Photos and Description of this 19 bedroom holiday estate in East Hampton - Laurel Island
A perfect place for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, volleyball, badminton
Laurel Island is a 5 acre Island on a Lake in Connecticut. It is a Retreat Location which is available for use by retreat planners or by individuals for family reunions.
Laurel Island is a perfect location to hold a retreat, reunion or family group that combines the privacy and peacefulness of an island and facilities for groups both large and small. Accommodations include 5 private cottages and a large main lodge for gathering. Local catering is available for group meals and will provide meals adaptable to different diets including vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, or others.
The 5 acre island’s canopy trees, blueberry bushes, rocky outcrops and large grassy field provide numerous spaces for activities and events. A huge covered deck overlooking the lake provides protection regardless of the weather, and is attached to the lodge for easy access. All of these spaces lend well for yoga, meditation, nature, wellness and other types of retreats, reunions or family groups.
In the cottages, there are community rooms (a room with no doors) as well as rooms with privacy. In total, there are 19 rooms. The island can accommodate 39 people.
Each cabin has a kitchen with a gas stove, a refrigerator and is fully equipped with dishes and silverware. There is a bathroom in each cabin and a separate showerhouse plus two additional showers at the Lodge.
Laurel Island now has an off the grid solar electric system. The Island has 8.5 kilowatts of solar panels which feeds two 8 kw inverters. There is a large battery (44 kw of storage) to handle nighttime and cloudy day electricity needs. And we have a 20 kilowatt propane generator to provide power when the sun has not provided enough power for our needs.
All the stoves in the cabins and the Lodge are now propane stoves(gas fired). The water heaters in the Lodge and the shower house are on demand heaters fired by propane.

Why jack solomon or jan solomon chose East Hampton
Hasn't everyone wanted to own an Island? It's beautiful and a great escape. What a wonderful place to have a family reunion, corporate retreat, wedding, gathering of friends, or anything else where people get together in a beautiful location.
What makes this estate unique
It's an Island. Swimming in the lake is wonderful. The Ocean and Sound are too cold for real swimming. The lake is in the 80's much of the summer, perfect for swimming and other water sports. We have canoes and kayaks for you to use.
