Marc & Ann grew up vacationing at New Jersey's beaches with their families...traveling for hours in the back of big old station wagons loaded with kids and stuff for the coveted 'week at the shore'!
'Our children have also enjoyed those same annual trips to the shore and we're thrilled to have a space we can call home in Cape May!'
Ann purchased this house in 2013
We feel so fortunate to own a place in Cape May! This beautiful town is bustling during every month of the year.
In addition to its pristine beaches and all of the summer fun that goes along with the sand and surf, there is also a vibrant community of year-round residents here that supports the arts and organizes festivals [food & wine; lima beans(!); seafood; Octoberfest---just to name a few].
In the warmer months, there are also deep sea fishing competitions including shark hunts, weekly movies on the beach, whale watching, horse and carriage rides, ghost tours, you name it!
At any time of the year you can explore Cape May's rich history and visit our lighthouse, the many historic buildings (many of which you can tour), and the WWII lookout! The town also hosts a flag ceremony every evening at Sunset Beach.
The year-round Cape May ferry travels to Delaware for those who might want to take advantage of some tax free shopping. Many Zagat rated restaurants are open all year too!
Because of Cape May's unique location at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, it is a natural resting stop on the Eastern Seaboard for all species of migratory birds and has become a mecca for bird watchers too! The US Coast Guard also has an active training center here because of this unique geography.
You can take a leisurely flat bike ride out to the lighthouse or to Higbee Beach or just enjoy a stroll around in town any time of year.
When you visit Cape May you'll notice that it doesn't attract the massive crowds found at many other area resorts. We especially like it because we know that our kids are safe and that there is good old fashion fun for everyone here in Cape May. Visit us.....we know you'll think so too!
We are charmed by the unique history of this old home and just could not believe how big it is!
The garden is an absolute joy....pink flowering trees and magnificent flowers that bloom throughout the seasons. We especially love the way the sun filters through the trees to provide just enough privacy on those lazy afternoons when we can enjoy the sound of the waves crashing on the surf.....all from the sanctuary of our porch!
We have spent many an afternoon just enjoying the cool relief of the porch's overhang with some cold beverages!
We love the dutch door at the entryway and the large elegant living and dining rooms that were once home to a vibrant ballet dance studio! We were so surprised and delighted that the home didn't have any of that heavy Victorian wallpaper or those small dark rooms we had seen in other older homes in town. Everything is light and airy and we have plenty of outdoor space, not only on the massive porch but also in the yard since we are located on a double-wide lot in the middle of the block. We also love the added convenience of having a few first floor bedrooms located down a quiet hallway just beyond the foyer.
After nightfall, enjoy the porch illuminated only by the moonlight and a few garden landscape lights or flip on the party lights and spend the evening playing cards or a board game. We just love the versatility of the outside spaces and we know you will too!
We thoroughly enjoyed our October visit.....Beautiful Victorian house...well appointed....spotless....well maintained...the porch is delightful....in fact the entire house and setting are delightful....great location...we will highly recommend The Magnolia.Porch...
Everything was perfect! The location was awesome, just 1 block from the beach. The house is beautiful. Perfectly laid out for a big family gathering. I love the porch. I love the decor.
This home has it all...it IS just as advertized, a family friendly home with lots of bedrooms, bathrooms, and all the extra you'll need for a great vacation in Cape May...plenty of room to spread out, all the bedrooms were very nicely decorated and the beds were VERY comfortable! Bathrooms are very accommodating. GREAT to have air-conditioning – what a plus for us as it was very humid at night this week. The main living room area was large enough for all to sit and visit...the grandkids got up earlier than the adults and found this room perfect for their Kindles. We had breakfast indoors (huge dinning room table) and dinner out on the porch (classic wrap-around porch complete with rocking chairs, out-door dinning table - seats 12+) several times. Kids watched a number of videos after dinner or early in the morning in the back room off the kitchen – another great place for our kids. While the kitchen is a little "tight" (counter space) it was well stocked with utensils and plenty of right-sized pots and pans and a great gas stove for gourmet cooking! We did cooked as little as possible so that it was a vacation for the “moms”. So I grilled steaks and chicken, which again was easy to do with 2 large outside grills. Everything to do in Cape May is in walking distance...so no need to drive and find a place to park either at the beach (only one block away) or going into town to enjoy the restaurants (excellent!) or the Washington St. shops. Beach locker is a great plus, as we did not have to transport chairs, boogey boards, etc. back and forth. Just a great house!
My family stayed at this beautiful home for a weekend gathering. Everyone just loved it. The home is spacious, well decorated, and only a block to the ocean. It is close to shopping and many restaurants as well. We truly felt at home. The only thing that would have made it better is if it was my house!!!! :-)
We booked Magnolia Porch for an extended weekend family gathering. The rental exceeded our expectations. The home was large and tastefully decorated. There were many areas (living room, dining room, porch, backyard etc) that allowed our entire family to gather together for meals and and general socializing. The porch was a special delight with space for all of us to sit and relax (it's even bigger than the pictures!) with the hammock being one of the favorite spots. Amenities were excellent -the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and the second refrigerator and outdoor grills were appreciated with a large group. This rental is an easy walk to the beach (and has excellent outdoor shower facilities) as well as to many parts of downtown Cape May. Owner was very responsive to questions. Overall, excellent rental property.
This was our 15th year of renting this wonderful old house for ourselves, our children and grandchildren. It's the highlight of our summer. It has always been well-furnished and maintained; we feel like it's our home away from home. Two of our children and their families travel 1800 miles to get here, but wouldn't miss it for the world. We look forward to it from one year to the next. The men have a standing date for Par 3 golf, and the ladies for luncheon at the Emlen Physick Estate. For the children, it's all about the beach (which is only a block and a half away!!!), the boardwalk, and games in the big back yard after dinner. The wraparound back porch is always in use either for just relaxing, dreaming in the hammock, playing games or eating a meal outdoors any time of day. The outdoor showers are also a big plus after a day at the beach. We would recommend this home to friends without any reservation whatsoever.
Immaculate, spacious home perfect for a family vacation with all the kids and grandkids. Huge wrap around porch and backyard space for enjoying the outdoors as well. Attention to detail both in interior design and amenities. Wonderful property manager, readily available if needed ( we had no issues) who goes beyond expectations - he called us to say he found a camera even before we knew it was missing - and promptly mailed it back! The owner is also easy to reach, ( Ann ) answers all inquiries graciously and accurately. Cape May has much to offer for beach lovers.. Pristine beach a short walk from house (1 block) bicycle riding, historical tour horse carriage rides around town , arcades, mini golf, great shops , and some wonderful restaurants ( we recommend Trisha's on the Mall and Union Square for sure- at Trisha's you can BYOB!) Will hopefully be able to rent for many years to come !
Steps from all Cape May has to offer. Park your car and don't move it--a short one block walk to the white sand beach and world famous Cape May promenade. Four short blocks to the center of town with shops and restaurants galore! You will not forget this unique home and all it has to offer. Make your vacation effortless!
