Marc & Ann grew up vacationing at New Jersey's beaches with their families...traveling for hours in the back of big old station wagons loaded with kids and stuff for the coveted 'week at the shore'!
'Our children have also enjoyed those same annual trips to the shore and we're thrilled to have a space we can call home in Cape May!'
Ann purchased this house in 2013
Why Ann chose Cape May
We feel so fortunate to own a place in Cape May! This beautiful town is bustling during every month of the year.
In addition to its pristine beaches and all of the summer fun that goes along with the sand and surf, there is also a vibrant community of year-round residents here that supports the arts and organizes festivals [food & wine; lima beans(!); seafood; Octoberfest---just to name a few].
In the warmer months, there are also deep sea fishing competitions including shark hunts, weekly movies on the beach, whale watching, horse and carriage rides, ghost tours, you name it!
At any time of the year you can explore Cape May's rich history and visit our lighthouse, the many historic buildings (many of which you can tour), and the WWII lookout! The town also hosts a flag ceremony every evening at Sunset Beach.
The year-round Cape May ferry travels to Delaware for those who might want to take advantage of some tax free shopping. Many Zagat rated restaurants are open all year too!
Because of Cape May's unique location at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, it is a natural resting stop on the Eastern Seaboard for all species of migratory birds and has become a mecca for bird watchers too! The US Coast Guard also has an active training center here because of this unique geography.
You can take a leisurely flat bike ride out to the lighthouse or to Higbee Beach or just enjoy a stroll around in town any time of year.
When you visit Cape May you'll notice that it doesn't attract the massive crowds found at many other area resorts. We especially like it because we know that our kids are safe and that there is good old fashion fun for everyone here in Cape May. Visit us.....we know you'll think so too!
What makes this house unique
We are charmed by the unique history of this old home and just could not believe how big it is!
The garden is an absolute joy....pink flowering trees and magnificent flowers that bloom throughout the seasons. We especially love the way the sun filters through the trees to provide just enough privacy on those lazy afternoons when we can enjoy the sound of the waves crashing on the surf.....all from the sanctuary of our porch!
We have enjoyed many an afternoon enjoying the cool relief of the porch's overhang with some cold beverages!
We love the dutch door at the entryway and the large elegant living and dining rooms that were once home to a vibrant ballet dance studio! We were so surprised and delighted that the home didn't have any of that heavy Victorian wallpaper or those small dark rooms we had seen in other older homes in town. Everything is light and airy. We also love the added convenience of having a few first floor bedrooms located down a quiet hallway just beyond the foyer.
After nightfall, enjoy the porch illuminated only by the moonlight and a few garden lights or flip the party lights on and spend the evening playing cards or a board game. We just love the versatility of the outside spaces and we know you will too!
