About Ardie Griffin

My dad purchased this property for our family & we lived here year round until the winters got to tough on my mother. Then we lived here for the summer months & my parents rented out the cottages until 1990. My mom used to do all the interior work & would make & sew all the curtains! We had regular 'renters' year after year, some of whom my parents became good friends with & would play bridge or 'uno' in our summer home. We 'kids' would play with their 'kids', fish, waterski, boat, swim, or do what kids love to do, play! It was a great place to grow up & my children who now have children of their own, & who own the property with me, love it as much as I do! We are sharing in this joint venture & hope you will join us @ this beautiful property on the shores of Lake Champlain!

Ardie Griffin purchased this cottage in 1951

Why Ardie Griffin chose Addison, VT

Because...see for yourself, there is no other property like it! Minutes to all kinds of entertainment & historical landmarks. There is so much to offer! You will delight in it's charm, sunsets, lake, views, boating, & so much more!

What makes this cottage unique

For the boat lovers, one can go anywhere from this lake. The beautiful sunsets are an added bonus as well as watching all the various types of boats on the lake & then there are the fishermen who love to brag about 'catching the big one!' We enjoy the privacy of our property, but only have to go minutes to nearby shopping, theaters, & more! In the Golden Eagle cottage the beams are from our black locusts trees logged & seasoned right on the premises! Each cottage is unique with it's own character! They are sheltered from the hustle & bustle of the 'city life'! Come rest, relax, enjoy, & discover why everyone loves this truly 'one of a kind' piece of luxury away from it all!

Couple or family getaway

This cabin was very nice and more than was advertised. It really felt and looked like we were the first occupants after the total renovation. The owners were very helpful and available The setting is very private and beautiful and near the beautiful small town of Middlebury.

Love the southern part of Lake Champlain

  • 5 out of 5
Our cabin was brand new with all of the amenities of home. Very comfortable for our family to enjoy including our dog. The lake frontage was nice. Fantastic fishing—the boat access and dock were very convenient [need a bait shop!!!]. Ardie and Mike were excellent hosts.

LCI Derby Accomodations

  • 4 out of 5
I was searching for a property to accommodate 11 of my family members to fish in the LCI derby. My search was very challenging until I sent a message to WatchPoint. They responded quickly to my request and within a couple weeks we had established how they could accommodate us at this property.
Six of us stayed in the newly refurbished cottage and the other 5 slept in rooms in the Inn. We were on the water at 6 AM and fished until 9:30 PM coming in for lunch or dinner. We were able to prepare meals in the cottage for everyone and one night Watchpoint staff and his family had a barbeque for us. The amenities were very good especially the new large screen HD TV in the cottage.
We had 5 bass boats and the dock was able to accommodate them all. It was a great benefit docking the boats rather than pulling them in and out of the water each day. There was electricity supplied to the dock where we were able to charge trolling motor batteries. For any fisherman this property is set up perfectly.
Yes the paper mill is across the lake but we were not bothered by it. Some of the best fishing was right in front of the plant. We are planning to fish the 2014 LCI and look forward to renting next year. Thanks to WatchPoint staff for their hospitality.

A Wonderful Retreat

  • 5 out of 5
What a wonderful place and such great hosts!

Very easy to reach, booked last minute and they were kind enough to squeeze us in for a quick one night between two longer bookings.

It is perfectly secluded, the trees to one side and lake to the other. The Golden Eagle Cabin was spotless, wonderful, exactly what they said...even better than the pictures.

We ran out of time on our trip, or else we would have gone back! I will make a point to visit these cabins often and have already recommended it to many others.

Please come and stay and enjoy as we did, you will not be disappointed, the family who runs the cabins is gracious and made us feel very welcome. great for kids and for couples alone.

Thank you to Ardie, Mike and family! We hope to see you very soon!

Owner's Response: We wish to thank our guests for their kind words about our Property! We hope everyone feels as they did & their satisfaction of our newly rennovated cottage! Since my parents owned it in the 50's-2000's we have improved it a great deal with respect to making the cottages more modern, but keeping the rustic appeal as we did. Yes, we have made some changes but the property itself is still a "one of a kind" property situated right on the shores of beautiful & historic Lake Champlain! My only regret is that my parents didn't live long enough to see the beautiful work my son, daughter & husband, my husband & myself have done! Please know we appreciate the kind comments & we hope to have more guests this fall & see ya'll next summer!

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 out of 5
We spent 3 night in the Golden Eagle Cottage with our kids. The cottage was new and clean, exactly how it looks in the pictures. The views were amazing, we got gorgeous pictures. We all had fun rowing on the lake, fishing and swimming. There was plenty of open space for the kids run around and play ball. The owners were great, especially helping our son learn how to fish. As a treat, the owners' son took our family out on his boat and showed us more of the lake, telling us about some of the local history.
We all had a great time, and hope to go back again.

Owner's Response: We certainly appreciate the wonderful comments left by our guests at our cottages on beautiful & historic lake Champlain! It truly is a unique & "one of a kind" location. The views are spectacular & the weather although hot in July & August has been great! We all got off to a slow start due to the amount of rain we had, which shortened the growing season, but the guests found plenty to do! There are many places within a short drive to visit either for fun or for the history of the areas near and around us. And of course, the fishing, boating, & swimming are several of the many luxuries this property has to offer!
We hope you all will consider staying with us whether it be this fall (which is so beautiful with the Adirondack Mts. across the lake) or whether you reserve for the 2014 season! We are excited that we have booked again the LCI tournament for next summer!
Thanks to all!
