Architect's Space, downtown. Upstairs in the old Taos Santistevan Family Winter Residence is a sleek comfortable 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the courtyard and fountain of Antonio's restaurant. This apartment was once a part of the office of Living Designs Group Architects. One master bedroom and another bedroom consisting of a lower full bunk and a twin up top. Washer dryer, eat in kitchen, small porch off one bedroom and large porch out front door. Italian leather, 800 thread count linens, organic king mattress. Excellent location for skiing in the winter or rafting and hiking in the summer, for strolling the galleries or walking around town in the eve.
My husband Doug and I met in Taos in 1994. I was a potter and he had just graduated from Architecture School in Cincinnati. We built an Earthship, had babies, I began Taos Clay (a community Clay Studio) and Doug joined Living Designs Group Architects. My Daughter and I rode horses together for many years, now both of our children, Emma and Jon Clay, compete on skis in Big Mountain Freeride and Slopestyle Freeride. We all spend a good part of the winter traveling to ski areas around the country and even to Canada this past season. We raft and climb and trail run in the warmer months, and sometimes even in the colder months too.
Page Patterson purchased this apartment in 2008
We bought this property because it is one of the most beautiful downtown historic properties in Taos. A two story, territorial hacienda with a fountain in the courtyard where there was once a community well. Rumor says it was at one time a brothel with tunnels running below it during prohibition. Mixed use: there is a thriving restaurant downstairs and an Architecture office upstairs, creating a property that is used so many hours of each day. Hollyhocks dorn the courtyard throughout the summer and tulips and daffodils line the walkways in the spring.
Besdies the excellent location, this place has sweet furnishings! Italian leather furniture, high end rugs, french press, coffee, half and half and a bottle of wine. This is our guest house so why not spend a little more and furnish how I would like our own house to be furnished? So I did: High thread count, 100% cotton linens, king size organic mattress, Ralph Lauren duvet covers and lovely, insulating blinds through which the light gently passes.
We enjoyed the property immensely. The location is unbeatable. We were able to enjoy lots of shopping and a great selection of restaurants without the use of a car. The apartment is gorgeous (lots of light, unique art, top of the line fixtures and furnishings). The owner was extremely accessible and quick to repond. Due to an unexpected change in our travel plans, she even allowed us to check-in early. We've stayed a lots of VRBO properties in Taos and this is absolute best. We would stay here again.
Very nice place with a great location. Within easy walking of shops and restaurants. Very clean and well stocked with most anything you would need. Large living area and kitchen. Would stay here again. Parking can be tricky if a big event is going on in town.
I had the opportunity to spend four weeks in Taos in August. The apartment's location could not have been better, only one-half block from the town plaza where many community activities take place. Many businesses, shops, galleries, museums, restaurants, and a large grocery store were within walking distance. It was also a good home-base from which to make day trips for hiking, scenic drives, or to go to Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and elsewhere.
The apartment has plenty of room, is well decorated, and the kitchen is fully equipped. The modern washer and dryer certainly made the stay easier.
Being the only rental unit in the building, it was quiet, even with Bella's Restaurant, definitely one of the best eateries in Taos, downstairs. I spent hours relaxing, working, reading, and enjoying the mountain scenery from the balcony. Page was available with helpful answers to my questions.
I have to say following through on the opportunity to experience Taos for an extended time was a great decision and I look forward to visiting Taos again.
We had a wonderful stay here. The apartment has everything you need and was very easy for my wife and I and our 3 year old. Very hip apartment located above a courtyard overlooking Bella's Mexican restaurant. Bella's was fantastic and delivered food right upstairs to us. We are going to try to duplicate some of the recipes from there. This apartment is very centrally located just steps from the Plaza including one of the coolest toy stores, Twirl, we have ever been to. We did day trips to Taos Pueblo and Rio Grande Gorge and we always enjoyed returning here at night. The furnishings are superior, the kitchen has everything you need and the air flows through very well in the cool evenings. We will be back!!
The Architect's Space Apartment was perfect for our quick time in Taos. Page was very responsive to any questions we had. The only draw back was the parking.... it's meter parking on the street 10am-5p. We will rent again from Paige.
This is a very tasteful, classy loft-like "apartment" only one block across from the Plaza and other downtown sites. It is very spacious--beautiful kitchen and main room area. Though modern in design & amenities, it retains the Taos feel--it's located above a beautiful courtyard area in an historic building. We had no issues with noise from the restaurant below; in fact, we enjoyed a nice meal inside the restaurant. Our host, Page, was extremely attentive, warm, and friendly. We were welcomed with wine, chocolate, and coffee. We highly recommend this property, and will return to it when we return to Taos!
Fabulous downtown apartment, walk to restaurants in the eve and stroll historic downtown. Taos Ski Valley is 20 minutes and Rafting the Rio Grande is 20 minutes away too. Two yoga studios are within walking distance of apartment, or take a photo tour with local photographer. Visit the Taos Pueblo, just 10 minutes away.
